If your system and people are more than teenaged, you should be able to laugh harmless jokes off. I mean, it doesn't seem like it after watching the video, given the traffic cops were likely looking for tourists to pay them bribes in the first place. That's why he made the subtitles as he did, but still. You think Ho Chi Minh would've been so mad about some words? Definitely not.

I personally think they are one of the funniest parts of his travel videos and generally they are self-demeaning more than they are making fun of the local population. If you watch the video again, the lady traffic cop was giving an attitude to the other couple from Poland for saying his permit should be different and should be fine, and to our man as well. Vietnam doesn't accept the American international drivers permit because the US didn't sign the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (we only signed the 1949 convention) which is likely why they were giving you trouble. You look at the subtitles he put on the video, he put the wrong subtitles, and the police in my country are not allowed to talk impolitely like that to foreigners as well as the Vietnamese people themselves. He even titled this video on tiktok as Vietnamese police taking bribes, while no one took money from him and they just checked and let him go, he even said thank you before he left as you saw. This is related to politics and the image of a country so we are really angry about this that's why people don't welcome him in Vietnam. He felt embarrassed and deleted this video on Tiktok. We respect all the countries we visit, so we hope everyone who comes to our country does the same. Sometimes humor is no longer funny, but it becomes worse if it's not in the right situation. Vietnamese here I seen the original video and I thought the subtitles was funny Yet I do get why some people are mad so here is some of my insight Just to be short, there is some main reasons, lack of internet common sense, most don't speak English, and the lack of humour of most people Many other younger Vietnamese people also said things to defend the joke but received things along the lines of "oh so devaluating vietnamese politics are a joke now?" Which honestly, fair enough Though the joke subtitles meant no hostility, it did touch. on sensitive topics and maybe not for everyone Talking shit is bound trigger some people; But that's mostly why many people love your content. Keep it up!
@tienanhhoang60047 ай бұрын
Yeah I did find his subtitles are a bit touching, but it's still funny as hell 'cause I know it's just a joke right away. From this and a similar situation happened to Dan Hauer 5 years ago, I can see a few things from the internet in VN: people (mostly young people) are taking so much propaganda from the government that they've become nationalists and narcissists. They can't take anything as a joke if it is touching their "people" or "culture" a liiiiiiittle bit. If they spent some time watching his other videos on yt instead of seeing a 30-second out-of-context clip on tiktok, they would see he means no harm at all. Conner, if you are reading this, the only thing you did wrong at all, was using the shitty app tiktok. The whole thing is why I don't, and won't use tiktok for my entire life.

Also Vietnamese here, you cant just assumed that everyone would just automatically understand that it’s a joke and even when it is, doesn’t mean it’s not offensive to some. A lot of KZbinrs put up disclaimers for that purpose alone. No hate at all from me but I also can’t speak for others.

@@tienanhhoang6004 as a content creator, it is your responsibility to ensure your content is non offensive to the audience. In this case, it is not a few individuals who found his contents to problematic, it’s thousands of people and that’s saying something. I don’t condone bullying people online for the shit they said but then stupid actions get stupid consequences.

@@vu770505 ok let's talk about some logics here: He did this kind of content at every country he came, somebody does found it offensive but they just 1. Turned off the video and watch another 2. Resub the conversation correctly so other guys can understand These guys take up a small percentage of viewers on this channel, the others mostly see this as a joke and find it's funny so they continue watching. => THESE can assure that the contents he made is fine enough and not too offensive for people to watch. Also nobody told him that VNmese can't take jokes tho, how could he have known then? His jokes are NOT about VNmese people, but about HIMSELF (being dumb, white, capitalist,...). If you watch the rest of his video instead of an out-of-context 30s clip on tiktard, you will see the locals are super friendly that make you wanna visit VN. And suddenly, only VNmese people on internet take these jokes personally, and not only "phản đối" , they start cyberbulling him. These "thousands of people" you said only tell that VNmese have no humor and are very toxic on internet over a joke they can't take.
