This is the first video of a series breaking down my story and some of the many highs and lows that I faced as I navigated the tech industry as a newbie.
I talk about my background (which is very non-technical) and the moment where things shifted for me!

I’m so glad I stumbled upon your page! I’m a current grad student going for a masters in IT with a concentration in cybersecurity. There’s probably one other black woman in my program but I’m glad to see more black women getting into the field

There are plenty of opportunities for apprenticeships. The workforce will pay you to learn and give you specialized training to receive certifications. I recommend looking into it.

I needed this! I graduated high school during 2021 and I quickly rushed into Nutrition an Food and then dropped it then tried again with Public Health, however, I realized the healthcare field is something im no longer passionate about. Tech was something I was interested in but I wasn't sure how to start. Anywhoo, im so happy I found your channel, im about to binge watch this series.

Sis! KZbin hid your comment but I’m so excited for you! My biggest word of advice is to Stay consistent. Whatever you goal is, making a daily habit to stay with it is crucial when you’re just getting into it. The more consistent the quicker you’ll see progress!

You are such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us🙏I’m thinking of studying info technology at 23, with no prior IT experience. Did you have any other concerns with what stage you were at when going into the field? For me, i feel like I’m too late into the game.
@nicoleyoungtech
@nicoleyoungtech 4 жыл бұрын
I felt that way too but its never too late, I started around that same age too. One of my favorite colleagues that I've ever worked with started learning to code at 40 with no prior experience, he was a carpenter prior and now he's one of the best coders I know (only 3 years later). It's never too late!!

I'm trying to learn c++ right now and i was wondering what is good way to understanding and practicing codes
@nicoleyoungtech
@nicoleyoungtech 4 жыл бұрын
The best way to learn is to DO. I would suggest finding some good resources to start doing practice projects. There are challenge websites like HackerRank that can be helpful or you can find tutorials and follow along with instructors in C++ on KZbin!

nicole . young thank you! I think our stories are similar. I would always steer away from heavy math and science classes in college. I just recently decided I want to go into tech. I’m not sure which specific area in tech I want to go in , how do I go about selecting the right field in tech for me?

Hello! I’m currently a high school graduate. I’m having trouble debating whether I should get a degree or just get certifications. Do you think it would be wiser in the long end to have a formal degree? Considering us as black women are looked down on in the hiring process.
@nicoleyoungtech
@nicoleyoungtech 3 жыл бұрын
There is definitely a lot to consider for your future right now! It would really depend on what field you are interested in, where you obtain any certifications (make sure they are from accredited programs) and how you plan to get the experience. If university isn’t for you that’s ok! Just make sure you are still preparing for the job force in other ways. Your experience and ability to do the work will always be the most important thing when trying to get hired. Those things paired with your background experiences will make you an asset to any team or company. If they don’t see it it’s their loss!!

Certs*

I wouldn't recommend school. There are lots of bootcamps and online certs that can help you get into the field in as little as 3 months. School is too expensive, not worth it lol
