What I'm always impressed with is that you handle so many chronic illnesses that make everyday tasks challenging, plus autism. I only have autism, but it alone makes grocery shopping so challenging. The lights in the store, sound of the carts, conversations with strangers who ask about my service dog...it's all so awful. Self-checkout stations have been life changing, and now with online pickup and grocery delivery, I finally can eat like a normal human, since I'm not too stressed to buy groceries.

Jaquie, it’s wonderful that you are feeling well enough to make it to the store for pickups even on tougher days. You might consider a collapsible cart with wheels to help you from your car to the house. My last apartment had me parking over 100 yards from my space to my door, and the trip back and forth was undoable. I picked up a little cart at my local Ace Hardware, Walmart has a nice one that has back wheels that can go up stairs and over thresholds for only $28.00. Mine is this size without the cool back wheels and easily holds a full cart full of goods, and has made my life easier.

When I lived in an apartment I had a bin in the back of my car that I loaded with all my groceries. 📦🛍 When I got home I would slide the bin out of the car and onto a little wheel trolly that I had bought at Costco. 💁👏👍 I could take all the groceries inside in 1 trip and didn't have to carry anything! 😎

I love this video :) great tips, I live in a small town in Australia so we don’t have motorised carts or grocery pick up. So I try and make smaller trips. We shop fortnightly so I go once for the dogs raw meals, once for our food and cat food and once to the markets for veg and fruit. I find it helps so much to limit the amount of time I’m pushing a cart around. I also live in a flood house so it’s up on stilts and carrying groceries up takes everything out of me.

Hey Jacquie, just FYI, Walmart prices for pick up ARE higher than Walmart in store prices. I am unable to go in due to severe illness and weakness as well but to use pickup, you are paying a bit extra for every item, some items are almost a dollar more. Love you! Keep doing what you are doing!

I love ordering Sunbasket pre-planned meals. I have a special diet and they provide paleo and vegetarian options that are fantastic. It really helps when I can't get out to shop to have these fresh, organic, ingredients already segmented for use and the recipe books are fantastic and allow you to remake meals you like with your own ingredients as well. All meals are set up for two, but I often order double of a meal to make a large enough batch for leftovers. I also love that you can order between 2-4 meals now, so that when I don't have energy to cook I can order fewer, and when things are great I can order more. For us there is a lot less waste, and for me personally I don't have to try and make it through all of the aisles of the store. Thanks as always for the tips Jac. You Rock!!!

I too love Walmart Pickup for semi-independent grocery shopping. Also the cold stuff is always separate from the other groceries so I can easily priories what to put away. Publix is great about shopping assistants when I go there and whomever drove wants to do something else. We have a wagon in the garage we use to move groceries from the car to the kitchen especially after Sam’s club or a big stock up shop.

I use public carts at various stores as well. But because of my compromised immune system I always bring my sanitary wipes to wipe the handles and speed control too. Thank goodness the world is really trying to accommodate people with disabilities in so many more useful ways. As we all know 'being disabled was never a choice' so accepting and incorporating our needs into everyday life by the public and businesses is so beautiful and appreciated. We don't want to be special or put above others. We just want opportunity and acceptance. And please when I say 'we' let that refer to me and others that might feel like me. Thanks for sharing Jaquie.

You may also order on line with Shop Smarter and get 10% off or a check each month or just order directly from walmart all orders at $35.00 or more the freight is prepaid. From my front door down my driveway is 65 feet to the gate and I try to remember to leave the lower gate unlocked so they may leave orders inside the gate or bring up my front door. Most of them know I can't pick up more than five pounds and am not able to bend over anymore and the delivery people are always helpful.

Most grocery store chains here in the UK now do home deliveries for a small fee. As one of the many people here who don't have a car, being able to get big deliveries saves so much time and effort. It's def worth the 6.99 monthly fee or whatever it is.

It may be pricier, but I love Amazon Prime and Prime Fresh since I have become disabled. They deliver fresh groceries and just about anything one can conceive of buying to your door step and often, if you get a good driver, they will knock on your door and help put the bags in the house for you so one can work on the unpacking a bit at a time.

Costco has electric carts with big basket and wheelchairs with smaller baskets in case you need to do that and people have been very helpful if I have needed assistance and sometimes even, while going into my store, someone will ask if I could use any help with my shopping that day. They are so very helpful and the membership fee pays for itself in one or two visits at the most. it's great for meat that you can freeze; and TP and H2O -- just the things you always find yourself running out to get more of! With a house of two the smaller wheelchairs with baskets on top worked best so we could limit our spending and sometimes I did have to push myself to maneuver or whatever the person with me couldn't help with. Tip* The electric carts at Costco have a deeper and wider basket than regular stores and you can compare them to wheelchair carts and see which works best for you!. Also, now Target does pick up as well (i know how much you love Target, Jacquie!) and I've done the pickup and two day shipping with my Store debit card and app that has their coupons on my phone. Also the cartwheel app can be use for their pick up and drive up services now! I really hope this helps someone else! Any store should be able to accommodate for you and your needs and I know loads of people who have now started using instacart or shipt for delivery. Thanks Jacquie, for your tips because it really helps and I've told people in person and they don't believe me. These are free (in store help I mean...) great way to make your shopping much easier & less stressful! Happy holidays, everyone!

In the UK we have scanners where you scan your groceries as you’re picking them up then you go to a separate check out, scan the scanner and pay. It means you don’t have to load the groceries on to the belt and can bag your groceries as you’re shopping. It speeds things along a bit! I feel like that makes no sense though lol but do you have anything like that in the US? I was recently in Florida and loved Publix!

Some stores here(Norway) are now also online and you can choose whether you want to pick the groceries up in tphe store or if you want them delivered to your house. However, both picking up and having it delivered costs extra, unless you spend more than 120$ (approximately) on your groceries. For families who spend that much it's probably great, but for me, thats about half of what I spend on groceries each month, since I'm alone😂 (if it seems like a lot of money for just one person, please remember: it's norway, everything is expensive😂)

You can have your doctor write a script to give to your insurance company saying that you need a home health evaluation due to x condition and at least my insurance company had no problem doing the evaluation, I had to fight for some of the home health services I wanted though, as I am able to drive and have a vehicle.

Hi :) So I chose my HHC by researching the ones in my area online. Then my doctor sent my IV therapy scripts there. If I need nursing, he sends a separate script for that, too. Each HHC is different and they may be specific about how the script is to be written (for example, unless my script says "via port," they cannot use my port). But they should work with you/your doctor. It can be tricky to start due to insurance, but a good HHC will advocate and work with you.

I sometimes use home delivery when I need big packs, heavy or a lot of groceries. I live on the third floor and no elevator so it’s heavy to carry. Here in Sweden they charge you about $10 extra for home delivery but they also have free pick up. They don’t deliver to your car though. You have to go inside yourself to pick up the bags. Good options when you need it.

I live with my parents right now so I just go out with them...my dad stays in the car too so I can go inside for a bit with my mom and go back out if I need to. :) but once I get answers and can find a new job and hopefully live on my own...pickup will still be something I do at Walmart :). Can get the good deals and not just shop in the small stores cuz that’s all I could do. And in this town even the neighborhood Walmart has pickup :)

Lol I didn’t finish my tip. So you can add groceries to your pickup cart throughout the week and it stays there essentially forever (I still use it to ask mom to pick up something when I can’t go in that will feel better on my digestive system for the week (it’s also nice cuz when I did live in the other state before moving down here to my parents... she signed in under my name and could pay for it with her card or at least know what I was getting and transfer money over. So for those of you who were like me ...away from your support system and unable to work while getting answers... that’s a nice way for them to help. It’s hard asking for help but I was/am so grateful for it). It’s nice cause though I didn’t make much last year (in fact lol when you made this video was my official day of resignation due to health) I do get taxes back and at least I can help out while government shutdown prevents Coast Guard retirees from possibly getting paid on the first of next month :( (here’s hoping things get figured out soon and the Coast guard both active and retired get paid)!!!!

I love shopping at Publix! The location close to me is wonderful, and in my experience they're all pretty similar in terms of customer service. I've found that if I need help with anything they're more than willing to assist me. I freakin' love their cookies and subs. As far as I know there's Publix in Alabama, Georgia, Florida of course, North and South Carolina, Virginia, and the eastern half of Tennessee. I know there's a lot more in Florida than the other states!

I recently discovered with the help of my smart drive, I can push a cart in my wheelchair, total game changer. It's a little scary at first as turning the cart steers the cart AND your chair, but it's 100% doable.

Hardest part for me is lining up with the cart, after that, I'm good. Just gotta keep the Smart Drive set slow.

Watching from a country that doesn't care too much about the well being of its citizens, it's a pity though cause I've got chronic illness and wished to be independent so bad but unfortunately without resources I'm backed in a corner ( literally ), still watch your videos though cause it teaches me so much, keep on fighting girl and continue uploading. Good is good

Couldn't agree with you more... I've moved back with my dad, because I couldn't get any support and had no money after university to do anything, and anyway my chronic pain and medical conditions got worse, So it was better to be back at home. But now because of that, I even get less help! Can't win. What Jacqui is doing is amazing, especially what she goes through. It just shows how strong she is :)

Do you know if a person can use a food stamp card when doing the pick up service at Walmart? Sadly, my Wal-Mart is not accessible for what I need because they don’t have handheld baskets, which is how I shop, so I never go in there. But I’d like to try their pick up service. I like those pea snacks, too.

A little of topic, but I say your socks and wanted to tell you my cousin owns her own knee socks company. She has tons of options and I think they're great for wearing with your A.F.O.'s. It's Chrissys Knee Socks. You can Google search or Facebook search. She's based in MI. Hope you check her out.
