In this highly personal talk from TEDMED, magician and stuntman David Blaine describes what it took to hold his breath underwater for 17 minutes -- a world record (only two minutes shorter than this entire talk!) -- and what his often death-defying work means to him. Warning: do NOT try this at home.
The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and more. This is the most magical thing I've ever seen David Blaine do... 19:50.... That raw emotion of his passion, dedication life work made me choke up a bit, and I rarely ever do. This is proof that if you have enough heart, and passion, and dedication with ANYTHING you set your mind to, you can achieve greatness. He spoke to himself in this moment, and to me saw the kid in himself, and why he loves magic.. and that no one can take it from him, he deserves to be highly respected as one of the best magicians. Those guys who showboat and say "look at me I do magic" are the total opposite of this man, he LOVES magic, and doesn't want people to see him, he wants them to be amazed.. and THAT is a real magician... to me.
