Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games kzbin.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! I'm glad that you allowed Indy to make correction when Inertia needed them. Too many people freak out every time dogs growl, but that's how they communicate a boundary. I've had someone (an old neighbor) tell me that my dog was "aggressive" because she corrected an obnoxious puppy who kept bumping into her and jumping on her. All my dog did was growl and snap a bite -- the puppy wasn't harmed and got the message, but the owners scooped their puppy up and left. Needless to say, he never did learn boundaries.

Introducing my three year old dog to my new puppy last week was my biggest stress point about getting a dog. I used treats and a muzzle and beyond a few snaps and fearfulness on both sides they finally started to play together. It’s been so relieving seeing that they can be together without bad interactions. My adult dog isn’t socialized and has been bitten by other dogs so she is really aggressive on walks but I feel like she is calming down now that she has a dog friend.
@Jen.K3 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on getting your new pup. I also introduced a new puppy to my 3 year old dog a couple of months ago. Yes, you are right, it has been quite stressful. I still have to keep them separated most of the time because my puppy doesn't leave the older dog alone and he gets stressed out. So they have supervised play times once or twice a day for now. I'm hoping that as puppy gets older and settles down more, they will be able to be together without my supervision. My older dog doesn't really 'correct' the younger one, he just walks away, and she follows him, she bites and nips at his legs and face. It seems mostly playful, not aggressive, but my older dog doesn't like it.

I love how you show REAL LIFE with dog training. So many videos go from "problem" to "solved" in one episode, and that just isn't realistic. It's so important to see the real ups and downs, and to therefore gain realistic expectations. Thank you so much for this series!
@teresaj.98775 жыл бұрын
Thank You for showing Inertia's highs and lows - the moments when she's sitting in her crate waiting for the visual command to go out (it really impressed me. What a good girl 😍) and the moments when she's too distracted to react to your commands. This is what having a dog is about. They are amazing and talented but they are not perfect. So many people doesn't realise how much one has to work with their dog to train him/her. I would link your videos as a comment to all those "my puppy is agressive he's 10 weeks and he's still biting it hurts I think I will give him up" posts I see all the time

We have a 7-year old Rotty/Chow Chow mix who is doing quite well with our now, 17-week old Aussie/Lab mix. Old dog has had the young dog in his jaws several times and has yet to draw blood or leave a mark on the puppy during the past 7 weeks. They do seem to play well together. I guess it does help that old dog grew up with Chihuahua pups in his first two years of life. However, when old dog is done playing, his bark and nip at the young pup leave no doubts in the pup's mind.

Awesome vid again. Wondering how to best train and make a dog comfortable on public transportation. Bus, train, trams etc. Because it's so different then cars.
@emmamemma41625 жыл бұрын
You can start by getting the dog used to being at the train station, bus stop, etc. Hang out there for a few minutes and give your dog treats when a train, bus, tram, etc. arrives. (If your dog is scared of big, noisy metal things you should start training further away). When your dog loves going to these places, get on and travel to the next stop. Feed treats to make the experience amazing. Work on having the dog settle by your feet and under your chair so that you can guide it to do this when traveling on public transportation. Try to take your dog on short rides to amazing places, this way they will soon love public transportation.

@@AnnainAwe I just went through the same process with my puppy so that's why it was easy for me to recall the steps. I don't remember seeing these exact steps in a book or video, but I've noticed dog trainers break challenges up into small steps and make sure the dog is set up to be successful and have positive feelings at every new step. Apart from watching Zac George (I owe my puppy-hounds fetching abilities to him!) I really recommend watching the YT-channel Kikopup. My puppy will be five months soon and she loves using the public transport, especially trains. I still use a ton of treats to enforce her for settling during the trip as she is very social and would probably try to greet everyone if I didn't reward her for staying under the seat.

Seek out videos specific to working animals. You may have to weed through many different videos to find the ones that resonate with you. You could start with your goals for your dogs rehabilitation. Keep in mind that humans need the training far more than the dogs do.
