What did you use for Varnishing and sealing the wood I recently rescued a guzheng from online it’s pretty beat up I want to sand it down (by hand) and refinish or seal the two ends. But I don’t really know about instrument working. Can you recommend anything

So you were able to produce a compound curve (it curves lengthwise and widthwise) simply by clamping? The frame looks like pine; will the tuning pegs be OK in softwood? It looks great, great job; please upload a video of it being played!

tuning pegs will never be ok in pine. THey will only be ok if you never tune them and use superglue to keep them fixed. Altho i encourage people to do woodworking, thiswhole guzheng is very very badly constructed, no proper research has been done. Its all very crudely. using pliewood etc. one needs to use layered hardwood for the tuning pin block for instance. This guzheng is bound to turn out into a dissaster and a waste of money and time. I saw some very poor woodworking skills and lack of experience. I doubt it if this would weigh up against buying a proper guzheng made by an experienced professional. Guzhengs can be bought for a few hundred dollars. the cheapest models look much better and are not constructed from inferior materials like this one. I have played quite a few low budget guzhengs and i must say they sound pretty good and are well constructed.

Gretchen Thunberg I also made a guzheng-like instrument in 1999. It does not look as pretty as this, and the instrument has no arching, but I made sure to use very hard tropical woods for the ends and tuning block.
