An extended warranty on a Toyota, why not just walk down the street and toss money on the sidewalk.

Salesman on my Toyota Tundra did the same thing with the monthly payments. Only reason I stayed and bought the truck is because he kept going down, and at the end, I told him stop with the monthly payments and show me the total price of the truck before trade in. He may have started trying to again before I let him know I was about to walk. Went from $49k to $41k real quick. The sticker was $51k with dealer addons.

Hi Jordon, I am curious as to how did you find the price that decreased with the tax. I went today to check the truck and it was $47,680 and added the TRD off road, and it comes to $51330. If you add all those taxes and levies, it comes to $60,230.13. How did you do that? I reside in Toronto, Ontario. I would really appreciate for the comments. Coz i really love tundra.

When I asked them about 2020 hoping that price might be decreased as 2021 is already in stock, they insisted that it is out of stock. I am taking time and checking out some other dealers in weeks to come.

This worked well for us: The Car Pricing service offered at Consumer Reports is excellent. You pay a small fee but its worth it. (I believe its powered by TrueCar). They give you invoice pricing reportfor vehicle and options and you can go into the dealer with the printout. We bought both a Toyota Camry(in the dealership) and Chevy Silverado (over the phone) and dealers in our area would give invoice pricing on both vehicle and options. At least you know you not being taken advantage of.

Usually those smart dealers won't talk about pricing over the phone or email. They don't even want to say it verbally in person, he write it down instead, and remove it after you read it. You can consider lucky found a dealer who willing to talk pricing with you over email.

I also took my old truck to trade-in to a carmax location, they gave me a trade-in value & i used it as a base for what i was looking to get for a trade-in. The dealership tried to lowball me, few thousands less, until i showed him the carmax evaluation & they matched it. FYI

I bought a Tundra because Dealers will not negotiate on a Tacoma. Here is how you make a deal. Know if there are rebates and how much. know your interest rate- go to your bank. know the price on top of the window sticker, not the MSRP. Dont listen to the salesman, be your own salesman. for example: Find the vehicle you want - who cares about competition or salesman I shoot for the sticker price on the top of the window sticker $40k not the $48K MSRP I subtract the $10k rebate (varies- I just picked a round number) I offer and will sign anything they put in front of me working my way to my offer, nothing is legally bonding until you get to finance. I will offer 30k plus TT&L This is my offer folks, I may be a little flexible but my goal is to be as close to my offer as I can. If they wont move, give them your name and number and tell them you are going to lunch. They will call you back to sign before your waitress can bring your order to your table. Win win all day. If they dont call back go to another dealership, it takes a while to spend 30k dont try to do it in an hour unless things go your way. Another thing - I never buy any warranty or anything on the back end. Know your interest rate before going into finance - you have to negotiate that end too. If they came back and say " there is a lower interest rate with the 100,000 warranty , ask what it is and take that interest rate without the warranty. Take your time and sit there till he see's that other finance guys in the office are taking more contracts and your just wasting his time on that one deal. These guys know they have to take the big deals with the little deals. Good luck! This is easy- we all have more time than money.

I'm a finance manager at a Toyota dealership, and honestly there isn't much markup at all in these trucks. Even after dealer holdbacks and all. 9/10 a dealer loses $1500-$2000 to sell a new car no BS. But where they get their money back is when they hit their objective with Toyota and they pay them back a few hundred for each new car they've sold. But it's all a gvle because if something flops and you miss your number they are out a lot of money. Nothing in this video is bad advice, but I will mention one thing. If a dealership offers a extended service contract through a reputable company, and offer a good price on it. If you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time and can afford it, you're honestly better off to get it with all the electronics that come on vehicles now a days. Because from manufacturer that stuff is only covered for the first 3 years, and technology is good enough now that it will more then likely not mess up in the first 3 years. But it's insurance is all it is, not something you have to have, but if you are offered a really good price on it better snag it up

Not saying your a liar. My region starts at or close to msrp and wont budge. 100-250 miles away starts at 5000k less on a tundra. I know people that have signed out the door on a limited double cab tundra for 37-38k. So there is a bigger markup than you know. I have a family member that was high up in the automotive world. He said on an item this big the markup in total is roughly 25-30%. He could be wrong. I think its very possible though. He negotiated ridiculously low prices on all his new vehicles, but he sat there all day or days sometimes.

There is truth in what you say, but there are several Toyota dealers in the SF Bay Area where there is significant markup. For instance Lithia Toyota in Vacaville tops the list. I was there last year, looking at the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro, just looking as I had a 2014 Taco, 4 door, TRD Off Road 4WD. On the sticker on the 2017 model was $53,000 for the Taco, with a $9,998 dealer markup; clearly identified as "dearly increase." Another patron asked what I thought and I noted I wasn't impressed. My Taco had a Stage 4 Icon Dynamics suspensions, ARB front bumper, Fab 4 Rear bumper, Tonneau cover and other upgrades. The other patron replied; "for $63,000, the TRD Pro Taco should have all what you have." I agree as come on, Bilstein shocks for off-road?! I traded the Taco in last year, a 2014 model, for $41,000 towards a 2017 Tundra Crewmax Limited, 4WD, etc etc. I paid $53,000 for the Tundra. The difference, I deal with Marin Toyota who is a great dealership and no BS. I told them with the number of folks circling my Taco on the lot, they'll sell it that day. We made the deal and the Manager called; they sold my Taco for $48,000, the next day. Back to my point, the Marin Tundras are $4000 - $6000 less than Vacaville. So, truly, some dealers only have themselves to blame as they manipulate the price.

Wow! I bought the same exact truck, 2018 Toyota tundra SR-5 4 x 4 in cement grey. My sticker price was $46,640 and my closing price was around 49k with taxes and registration included. I also did a shit ton of research myself via going on KZbin looking up different videos in different cities about the 2018‘s and also did my research online on the same website that you mentioned.The only difference with me is I live on the island of Maui in the state of Hawaii and usually when you’re trying to negotiate a deal on vehicles over here They add on a “dealer markup”. This time there was no added dealer markup. So I checked online what the prices were at the dealerships on the island of Oahu and the price was exactly the same as maui . I guess the maui dealership wised up cause everyone goes to Oahu to get a deal on a new Toyota because there are no dealer markup’s there. So I pretty much Didn’t have any choice as far as getting out there and making other dealerships compete with each other. Oh well. At least I sold my 2013 Toyota Tacoma for 25K in cash ,so I had more than enough money to put down on my tundra. Anyway .. love your channel! I’m subscribing!

Toyota's on Oahu and Kauai all fall under Servco so no real competition between dealerships since they can share inventory. The year end clearance sales are slim pickings as they pretty much sell everything. Pretty much a sellers market as you can attest when you sold your used Toy.

I wanted 5.7, double cab, limited, running boards, tow mirrors, bed liner....in blue. Knew this before I even test drove one. Went to a out of town dealer, to feel out price with trade (2005 4Runner). Then played my dealers ( 2 blocks away) games and got my out the door price in the end. Difference between first dealer and the final sale was about $5k. Was about a 3 week ordeal. The big difference was what was offered for my 9 year old 4Runner (56k miles). If your short on time, and patients, I'm sure there is a salesman who would love his big commission.

I just bought a 2019 Toyota Tundra SR5 Crewmax. My local Toyota dealer wanted $39K plus tax and lic. their extended warranty was a whopping $2,200. I later decided to check out my Credit Union. After a couple of days they found the exact same truck. Wow, I got it for $34k plus tax and lic. and their extended warranty was $560.00, that's right only $560.00, which had the same coverage. They explained that many dealer jack up their price to cover the commissions. Not only does the salespeople gets commission, but everyone up the totem pole (managers ) gets a cut of the pie. That means higher sticker prices to cover the added commission. The point is... check with your local Credit Union (what it takes to be a member) see what they can do for you. With me it was so easy, I was pre-approved, they found what I wanted, they delivered it, they had me sign for it and gave me my keys. I will NEVER go though a dealership again.

gmc sierra dealerships will always try to profit at least 5k from used cars. Dealership makes more money from service and selling used cars than selling brand new ones. if you want to get your moneys worth, selling cars in private is the only way. Either way it’s much easier to sell tundras and get more money from selling it than other brands. GM trucks are 2nd.

Resale doesn't matter on a depreciating asset. ALL NEW VEHICLES are bad deals, designed to keep you enslaved in debt prison forever. Financially speaking Your best bet is to buy a fully depreciated truck in great condition but with very high mileage, pay cash for it so that there is no loan and no interest, and THEN have a new drivetrain installed for about $5000K , engine and transmission, which in many cases, will come with a 3-5 yr warranty /100K mile protection with service nationwide (Jasper Engines and Transmissions for example) . So...suppose you buy a 12yr old truck with 200,000 miles for $6K-$7K. Add $5 K for new drivetrain installed (with warranty) Total investment $11,000K or $12000 Compare those costs to $45000 -$70000, plus interest, just so you can own a new Truck!!! You will do far better in the long run on your total transportation costs by buying the depreciated truck. Compare that to the Far less ADDITIONAL MONIES spent on insurance, taxes, and zero money spent in interest charges which is just pissing money away Some people are concerned about their collision insurance in the event of a "total"..you must talk to your agent about the installation of a new drivetrain and at what cost you will or have incurred. Keep all of your receipts and warranty information. Many insurance companies will fully insure your vehicle based on what you have spent. A new drivetrain installation, is treated DIFFERENTLY than "Maintenance" in the event of a total

the best way to negotiate a car deal is to have a set price in mind and don't go over that at all and never let them do the financing for you. Go to TrueCar and get a good price then go to your bank and find out the interest rates and what they'll do for you because a lot of times the dealer is going to go and get their favorite banks that they make money off of or get commission from and do the financing and then those finance these are rolled into your loan. and the killer is when they try to tell you you need gap insurance when you can get that through your bank much cheaper and any extended warranty can always be purchased through your own insurance company not through the manufacturer. and 44000 if that is the price you're paying don't pay a penny more because they're going to nickel-and-dime you with dealer fees which are bogus and never let them know you want to finance or pay cash until you get the price that you want

My out the door price on my 2018 SR5 was 38,600 from a sticker price of 43,000. But it took me a month to wear them down and I waited until they were trying to make their monthly quotas. Tax made up about 2000 of that so basically I paid 36.6 for it. I also did all of my negotiating via text and email.

Thank you for that helpful insight. I hoping if you could help me with two questions I have please. First do I have to get the tow hitch from the dealer or is it best to get it after market. Second I am looking at the 2019 Tundra SR 4WD, 5.7L V8 Engine, 6-Speed automatic transmission Double Cab, 6.5-ft. Standard Bed to hook a travel trailer on to it. GVWR on the trail is 7,000 lbs Dry weight approximately 4,600 Tongue weight approximately 460 I know that diesel will give me better gas mileage when towing especially on long hauls and steep grades, but with all of the EPA mandated changes 1) initial cost is much high. 2) Too much maintenance . Do you feel that 5.7L V8 Engine, is enough to get the job done . What’s your thoughts please.

I got an extended warranty on my Silverado LTZ. 6 months after the manufacturer's warranty expired the front differential exploded (at 49,168 miles). I'm still covered for another 6 months thanks to that extended warranty I purchased. The repair easily will cost more than what I paid for that warranty. So if you're stupid like me and bought a GM, an extended warranty might be a good idea. As soon as my truck gets finished, I'm trading it in for a Tundra!!! I will never look back.

@DiyMike I like your video and subbed. Like you said you have to fight the system lol. Funny the comments on here are probably car dealers you've pissed off with your tips. Can't be mad at them as they see it as money out of their pockets. I personally thank you for the sales tax tip as I am about to purchase my next vehicle and had over looked that its based off the amount you spend so as you negotiate a better price the tax amount should lessen with it. Simple math but with so much other thoughts and factors it can easily be missed. Thanks again!

If you know math you can negotiate a monthly payment. I got a ram sticker was 34k got them down to 28k the payed off my old truck 2k more then what it was worth and got them to throw in a tow package. Best deal I ever did and I still felt like they got the better of me. Only one thing you said I agree with. You have to have time.

Plain and simple, if you really want to save $7k-8k you have to pay that truck off right then and there. Most people can’t of course, but the dealers love leases and financing, because if they don’t stick it to you right then and there then they will eventually do it over the time your making the payments with interest. Kinda like when you get a good deal on a house, if you get a 30yr mortgage your paying close to double, you just don’t see it through the small monthly payments. Want the biggest best piece of advice, give it time, save your money, and then when you have a nice lump sum then you head to the dealership. Car salesmen are in fact very greedy, and when you walk in there with a pocket full of dough they will try to discount the price. You will be in control because they want to get their hands on that money.

Hey Mike, great video, great info. I've been looking for exact same truck for the past year. Went from 2017 Tundra Pro to 2018 Cement Tundra Limited Crewmax TRD with black leather. All trucks here are 4x4 and 5.7L. I've gotten a great price...about $4600 off msrp or dealer invoice, whichever is lower. The problem is from here almost every dealer I deal with at that price they immediately tell me the dealer is selling at cost or below and they can't match or beat it. So I'm about $3k-$4k above your deal even though I love in CA where they sell more trucks that anywhere else. Any tips from you other some sales reps on how to get even better price? Thanks!!

hmmm so for a 42k truck your worried about 41 bucks in taxes on the $500 they were discounting! They woulda give you the Nitro Air all you had to do was ask. I hope you don't plan on keeping it past the 3/36 since you didn't negotiate the extended warranty cause one day in the repair shop woulda paid for itself. But with your negotiating skills you can get another one down the road right? Honestly hilarious since you do not know that the sales volume for that dealer, for that month and on what day will determine the best discounts. Anyone can get that discount since they figure you brainstormers are going to come in and show em how it's down.

first, toyota phased out TRD tundra in 2017. there is no 2018 trd tundra. i got a 2016 toyota truck delivered to my house jan 1 2016 for under msrp (if you deduct taxes, title, registry fees and other stuff the truck price was under invoice) doing pretty much same thing. i checked all the inventory over the net. most dealers have internet sales people. i started off with a specific model, trim level, configuration, list of colors, and contacted 6 local dealers about specific trucks in their inventory with a specific number i was willing to pay for it and said the first dealer to accept my offer gets my business. 3 dealerships would not respond with specific prices but 3 did. the dealer with the best counter had 2 of the exact same truck on the lot and i reached agreement for a walk out price on either and said i was driving in. when i got there, i was told to wait for a specific floor salesman. eventually the guy walks up and says he sold both on my way in. he pointed to something completely different he wanted to show me. i walked out. a different guy contacted me while i was on the way home saying if i came back i could have the truck i was supposed to buy earlier for $500 less. i wound up driving all the way back the next day and signed everything. the truck including taxes, title, registry fees, matts, yada yada, was delivered to my house for hundreds less than msrp. only thing i can add is that dealers not only make money off markups and fees, but they also make money off of holdbacks and factory to dealer incentives. even if you buy for "invoice" the dealer can still make money off the sale. the incentives can be monthly and yearly for specific models or for total brand sales. either way, at the end of the month or especially at the end of the year, if dealers can sell more vehicles in order to hit certain sales levels, they can often get more money from the manufacturer and avoid the accounting costs that carry over to a new month and new year of having inventory sitting on the lot. not always, but many times this can be an extra motivator for them to make the sale. i believe that played a role in the deal i got. they not only knew i was on my way to another dealer ready to sign papers on a specific vehicle, and that they had me in the dealership ready to buy their own vehicle at a price we already agreed on and they screwed up the deal when i walked out, buy they knew their vehicle was about to sit on the lot a few more days into a new month and year, costing them more than just that one sale. walk out if they try to change the deal or steer you toward another vehicle. if they let you walk out and contact you, make them give you a better deal in order for you to come back. of course, you need to have your own financing lined up and not be including any trade to pull this kind of deal off.

That's the sick part. We can't trust an individual selling us a $40,000 truck. We can not trust maybe as much as 95% of the reviews on KZbin. They are actually just ads. I have witnessed reviewers leaving out information that was considered a negative. Such as a dampened tailgate. The reviewer held the tailgate as it lowered and didn't mention the tailgate was not dampened. Another reviewer told us everything about the back of a 4 Runners but he did not mention the trailer connections were under the bumper, hard to get to and fills with mud. Didn't say a thing. Then they have the audacity to ask you to subscribe. So, where is the real reviews???

MSRP $45,044, payed $42,450 OTD and from what I’m reading there isn’t even car tax where this truck was bought. I’m not seeing a big discount at all. You claimed an F150 is more expensive after adding options, yes but who cares when you actually pay less out of your pocket because they always have hefty incentives and Toyota does not. A $45K F150 in my area can be bought for $35K if done right, leading to $37K-$38K depending on different tax levels and other factors. Not trying to be argumentative you got a sweet truck it’s just that the $ doesn’t seem right. Great vids.

Not sure why this is a hard subject, but $750 a month x 60 months is $45,000. HE FINANCED, he owes $45000, the MSRP was $45044. He "saved" $44 over the life of the loan. Why pretend he "bought" the car outright, when he owes the lender. If he walked in and handed them cash for $37000 and they took it, then ok, I see the $8000 savings, if not, then move on.
@vwilborn2538
@vwilborn2538 6 жыл бұрын
Let me be clearer as well. It is smart to write off things on your taxes, etc, EV owners do it all the time, which is an offset, but it doesn't matter if this loan is paid off in 30 days or 5 years, the CONTRACT sums the payments as $45000. On the loan paperwork you will see "Sum of the Payments", that is the transaction price (minus down payments OR trade in which DO NOT MATTER). Lenders work with a Dealer (ask me how I know) for a specific transaction price. This is still as $45000 car sale with an MSRP of $45044. As a business owner you can offset this sale, but the dealer and the lender working together got $45000, period. A cash buyer will see a very, very, very different transaction.

I fell victim to the extended warranty gimmick for 2400 dollars and later realized it was useless.. I found out I had t o pay 100.00 just to get the truck looked at and at that point they would decide if it was covered or not. It only covered faulty craftsmanship not normal wear and tear. Such wording is very slippery and your out 100.00 no matter what. Never again. It pays to do your homework.

Not sure I got the point about Extended Warranties. If your new vehicle comes with a 3 year warranty then that's it, it expires in 3 years. It costs extra to add another 3 years. If you don't modify to void your warranty and long term ownership is your game, it might be for you. Also consumers should know that dealers have been taken to court (lame but go figure), by customers who were denied warranty claim due to expiration. They argue had the dealer offered Extended Warranty they would of purchased. Don't be surprised if you're asked to initial that you decline the added warranty.

Liked your two videos and thanks , was thinking Ford 2.7 ecoboost for mpg , equally confused on the options. , worried about Turbos and the engines vs Carbon, esp with 10% methanol fuel here in Texas . Have a Ford V6 truck 2011 and have throttle body carbonized . Turbos are great power producers but give expensive issues, so down to a Toyota for reliability, low maintenance and high resale and a 5.0 V8 in a Ford or Chevy V8 (but build quality still 90's). RAM is old news. Will try Toyota again but our dealerships are horrible on trade ins and hard to discount in TX. Good Videos !

Great video but you didn’t include the terms of the loan. Typically when you get a good price you are hit with a slightly higher interest rate and a longer term (72 vs 60 month). This equates to basically paying a higher price for the vehicle, especially if you finance through the dealership.
