The 9-5 thing is so helpful! In biomedical science at my uni this happens a lot where some days are 8 hours of lectures/labs and others 5 or 6, with an ever-changing timetable, so it can be overwhelming to plan the same amount of stuff to do every day. Plus extracurriculars in the evening…Treating it as 7am to 7pm will definitely help my sleep, instead of promising myself to get up early and still going to sleep at 1 am 😬

Thanks Zach!! GREAT VIDEO! TREATING STUDYING LIKE A JOB with no distractions is indeed a key to getting a lot done. I used to put my phone on airplane mode when I was writing my PhD dissertation. The Mark Twain frog quote is also SO GOOD! 🐸🐸🐸 Getting the sucky stuff done first also provides a boost of accomplishment for the rest of the day. And all that medical studying has paid off Zach, Toxic Biomolecule Accumulation, haha. I definitely had to Google that 🤓😅

Great vid as always Zach!! I'll definitely use these tips for postgrad exams! I really struggled with focus in med school - lectures especially, I'd just fidget and play with my phone 😂 But I was much better when revising at home, I'd set a time to revise then stop. Also making time to tidy my desk space and remove distractions is always time well invested. And if I'm tired? Chill out and take a break! Watch some Avatar the Last Airbender! At work, I'm currently trying to improve my focus and productivity by making a personalised jobs list in Microsoft Word that works with my system, so I get the most urgent patient jobs done ASAP. It's so much easier to get things done when you set out what you're going to do from the start! 🙌🔥

Keeping your lights on or keeping a specific light on when you study also condition you to study. So you learn to study when the lights on so you have a feeling to study when the light is on and keeps you focused to studying. Personally I use led lights. When I want to study I turn it on and change its color to green.

I really wanna try the 9 - 5 one. At the moment I sometimes struggle to get my work done, having an extremely chaotic timetable that changes weekly at my uni. It feels wrong to not study after uni, but after 8 hours of lectures etc it might actually help concentrate the next day. Cause I do have shorter days and then mess up with my studying. I've implemented the scheduled breaks a few times successfully. Sooo... trying to build a good routine here and your video might actually help a lot.
