i agree with you rabbi that the rambam is the standard of the oral tradition for torah, for me he is numbet one, of course without the taking away from the others.

Since Rambam codified all the Laws made by the final Sanhedrin and that is authoritative for all world Jewry what would be the point in not following Maimonides 100%? It seems Mishneh Torah is totally superior to other books such as Shulchan Aruch, Mishneh Beruah etc as it unites all Jews of the world until another equal or greater Sanhedrin is established.

Yashar koach on an excellent talk. In keeping with your thoughts about the importance and distinction of Rambam’s Mishnah Torah, it can, perhaps, be appreciated the significance of the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s instituting the daily study of Mishnah Torah (3 chapters a day, 1 chapter a day, or Sefer HaMitzvot following the order from 3 chapters a day). It accustoms people to transition from galut mentality to geulah mentality.

In the introduction to the Mishneh, Rambam says: "The Law (613 mitzvot) is like the words of the 1001 sages". So he connects 613 and 1001. Interestingly, the value 613 in gematria exists EXACTLY 1001 times in the entire Bible. @

Regarding the subject of minhagim, excluding what is called ‘Minhag Yisroel’, we are commanded not to abandon the ‘Ways of our mothers’ who follow the custom of their husbands. Minhag, particularly for someone who is meticulous, is like a ‘Sefer Yuchasin’ or like a collection of genetic markers which indicate the geographic trail which the ancestors of that individual traveled. In other words, possibly an indication of tribal affiliation.

As I understand, the Maharal is considered the intellectual forefather of both Litvishism and Chassidism- and that he espoused- rather than early Gemara studies as standard for children or those not mature enough/ready in general- the Pirkei Avos model of Tanakh at 5 and Mishnah at 10 and Gemara at 15. It just makes me wonder why Talmud Torahs aren't called Mishnah Torahs. I get Talmud Torah covers the first two canonical works of Am Israel, our official scripture anthology and our official encyclopedia. But it seems like Mishnah Torah would be more apt name for primary Jewish education- before age 10 the Mishnah could refer to Mishneh Torah being the Oral Torah focus- and then Mishnah proper (a la Seder HaMishmarah) after age 10- this following the Mishnaic Chazalic model. (And the Jedi model of teaching the Padawan while their years are as formative as possible- and maybe while permeability of memories from past life studies could more feasibly be percolating up to consciousness to guide the relearning of Torah). As I understand, 80% Talmudic adult fulltime studies is standard but for a Talmud Torah what percentage is usually studying Talmud? Are there any yeshivahs that have a daily Jewish history class?

I think the reason the Rambam didn't discuss minhagim is because he intended his book to be used by all Torah communities everywhere and did not want to add limiting issues. I do not believe it had anything to do with the Rambam believing that all minhagim from Galut would be "jettisoned" in the future. I do not think the Rambam thought any such thing. Minhagim are the "kishuty kalla" that have been added to beautify the Torah over the past 2000 years. Gd forbid that Am Yisrael should ever follow R. Bar Hayim's advice and "jettison" them !

Minhagim have been added by non-smicha'd Rabbi's over the years. They are not "halacha". They do not "beautify" the Torah but rather they distort it to allow religious leaders to subvert and control their communities and in many cases go against "halacha" as defined by Chaz"l. This is the most dangerous thing about minhagim !!!!

אי אפשר בבשר חזיר It is not part of the biblical canon as used by Jews, apart from Beta Israel. Most Christian denominations and traditions may accept the Books of Enoch as having some historical or theological interest, but they generally regard the Books of Enoch as non-canonical or non-inspired. It is regarded as canonical by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church, but not by any other Christian groups.

First of all what the heck does hazir have to do with it second of all the book of enoch is irrelevant as the sanhedrin rejected it and it was written a VERY long time after hanokhs life
