In a normal playthough this means she'll often uses attract when you swap in a new Pokémon, but in a solo run it works against her because it's never your first turn out for a Clefairy-shaped reason.

At first it seems surprising that Whitney’s eliminated so few Pokémon, but when you think about it it makes sense, considering how inconsistent her strategy is and how many resources they’ve given you by this point that can be used to cheese her (Mud-Slap, Fury Cutter, Headbutt, Rollout, Dig, etc.)

Agreed. I also think lost in the minds of many is that we are running on Max DVs and DVs are actually pretty relevant here. You would almost always have less speed, attack and defense, so you would get worse ranges on Whitney and she would get stronger ranges back at you. I think some of the solo runs are going to really showcase just how much better Whitney is when she has a DV advantage on the player.

Chansey's run might come to an end on one of the Haunters since Chansey doesn't hit hard and Haunters love to swear turn one. You could hope for a turn one Mean Look I suppose.

@GSCPokemonChallenges yes, like Blizzard and hope for a freeze turn one on Haunter, but that 70% accuracy is, well not the worst, but it's 😬😬😬. Also for these runs you could give yourself infinite money since you could argue you can just turn the clock back and get infinite berries to sell, and once you get to Goldenrod City you could do Bueno's Piassword for infinite nuggets, although that would get broken hardcore if you took advantage of it to the fullest extent, although it would help to get quality of life items, and you can ban getting rare candies from Bueno's Password since way more Pokemon at that point could basically beat the rest of the game no problem at level 100, and we want to see minimum battles as in minimum experience, then no matter the trainers you battle and experience you get, that will work too. 😊😊😊

Dang! That was incredibly bad luck on the first attempt with Hitmonchan. 4 turns off mud-slaps, yet no Rollout misses even though Rollout is base 90% chance to hit. This definitely shows the differences in accuracy debuffs between gen 1 and 2.

I expect Ice Punch to be really important down the stretch. Of course Thunderpunch could also help on Chuck and Pryce, Fire Punch will be best for Jasmine, but I don't think Hitmonchan will have enough damage output so Ice Punch freeze luck might be required going forward

For Octillery: I didn't check, but according to previous pokemons in this video, it seems that if a Pokemon is in one hit ko range Miltank will go for an attack regardless of accuracy stat (instead of a milk drink). I am uncertain if it is responsible to attempt to manipulate it, or if it will be within 20 attempts, but I believe that it should be feasible to defeat her within a humanly achievable number of attempts, although it might be in the dozens or even hundreds.

You're right: In Gen 1 and 2 Tail Whip and Leer are the same. But from Gen 3 onwards Tail Whip hits both enemies in a double battle while Leer only hits one.

If I had to choose a Pokemon to combine Chansey with, it would be Shuckle, because high health + hign defense physically and specially + Metronome, that can be a force to be reckoned with, especially if you can turn 1 Metronome something like Belly Drum, or eventually Metronome a 1 hit ko move.

Agreed on 13. I played the first version of it and found it overall underwhelming, and then they had to make parts 2 and 3, and by Lightning Returns I was just out. I gotta hard disagree on FF6 though. The Magicite system was dope, each character having a unique ability was awesome, the sheer number of playable characters was amazing, especially in the World of Ruin since you could gather up as many or as few as you wanted, tons of spells, summons, massive worlds, it was honestly the perfect balance between something like the Materia system of 7 and the completely locked out class system of FF4. For 9, honestly I didn't like the animation style, and 10 just seemed like a reversion to me. BTW 12 was low-key food until the end, when it just suddenly kind of did nothing like wtf?

As you say, it's an extension of the FF4 system. However, that doesn't fix the fact that the entire game is carried by the charisma of Kefka. The villain is the only thing 6 does better than 4. In terms of story, gameplay and exploration, 4 is better. By extension, 7, 9 and 10 are better by a landslide. Tons of characters is not a pro. 9 is worth playing, if you somehow find free time. The themes and character development in it is top tier, mostly focussing on death and being forgotten, and how to cope with loss. Not sure what you mean by 10 is a reversion. 10 has some of the most intense themes of any FF, including religious dogma, racism and the value of sacrificing one for many. It's also an incredible turn based game and the music slaps as usual. 12 felt overcooked, like they tried too hard to do too many things but couldn't get close to 10. I also disagree with your take on 8. FF8 is one of the most horrendous experiences I've ever had to endure. I would have quit if not for Zell existing in the game, and no one could pay me to play it again.

If you have to drop a Pokemon I pick, it's okay my friend, I don't want you to have to reset tons just to get my pokemon through. It's okay to do in a separate run, but these minimum battles runs together in the main series is to try and show consistency in a reasonable amount of time. I do appreciate the time you invest to give Pokemon the maximum chance to get through though. 😊😊😊

Really enjoying this series, but is there a reason to read the stats/moves before every gym leader? People who watch see the overlays, and listeners like me learn the moves through your fight and TM commentary. Being outsped or explaining exceptional stats is cool to hear for me though

I do it for 2 reasons: 1) to help me reset and think strategically before each boss battle by focusing on the stats going in and 2) to help listeners reset and understand the stats of the Pokemon coming in and why I might choose a particular strategy with the Pokemon as I go in.

You are welcome buddy, and if you ever fire up a gen 3 channel for minimum battles and you allow channel member picks, I will think hard on the Pokemon that got dropped and try and give a very good Pokemon a redo with the right strategy. I'm glad I picked Chansey here, it got very lucky with only 40 resets 3 badges in, that shows that Metronome CAN be broken if the right moves at the right times are selected. Could you imagine if Lucky got all the way to Red, and Metronome only selected 1 hit ko moves and landed first turn? That would suck for Red, I would go up to Red and say "and now, the award for unluckiest trainer, goes to.......(drum roll) RED!" Red: 😡😡😡😡😡😡 All of us: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oh yeah, the problem with the 1 hit ko moves with Chansey, is that it will neither outspeed or be a higher level than these Pokemon, so it wouldn't matter which gen Chansey is in, these 1 hit ko moves would never land given these problems. Still, if levels and speed were no problem, this would be beyond insanely bad luck for Red. 🤣🤣🤣

I think it's pretty likely that Leer and Tail Whip were originally supposed to have different effects, and that's why the redundancy exists. Weirdly, they had a chance to differentiate them when Double Battles came out by making one of them single-target and one multi-target...but no, they both were made multi-target. (I wonder if Leer was originally supposed to be like Screech and lower 2 stages, but they decided in the end that it was too powerful and changed it.) Honestly, I think the best thing a member could do for my boy Rhydon is just...change the Rival to the Quilava. You wouldn't even need any moveset adjustment for that. (It's probably the only way it makes it through Rival 3 as well, because there's no setting up on that Haunter I'm guessing.)

The reason is that I want to see what exactly it takes to get that Pokemon through Rival 2. The original idea of Rock Slide fails completely, so what if we tried STAB Rollout? still fails completely. Then what if we try with the Quick Claw? Still doesn't get the range. Do then what if we Fury Cutter with the Quick Claw? Finally gets through, but it's absolutely terrible. That is kind of my approach, I want to know what, if anything, does work, even if it wasn't the original intention.

Then again, you gave that one Pokemon on Red 263 attempts to win on minimum battles, Stantler I believe if I remember correctly. Now even if Rhydon somehow gets to Red on minimum battles, the problem is Blastoise and Surf. Yeah, you might need quick claw and Fury Cutter, although I don't believe Fury Cutter is going to do enough damage even when built up all the way. We'll see. 😊😊😊
