This video is misleading. Kangaroos are not invasive species because they are native to Australia. An invasive species is a species that is introduced, such as the common mynah or cane toad. They may be considered a pest species in some areas due to overpopulation, but they are not invasive. Secondly, they are not raised but harvested from the wild. Saying that they are "raised" implies that these are farmed like sheep and cattle.

While it’s educational to see how kangaroo meat is processed, I wonder about the environmental impact and sustainability of this industry
@mattdread499420 күн бұрын
@healingfarm92 VERY SUSTAINABLE! Our modern land clearing has helped numbers explode. Imagine having 300 wallabies and roos on 100 acres with 50 cattle? We farmed chickens but we weren't going to run a free nature reserve for our council!!! The damage they do? You do not want them around traffic!!! You have to remember they were one of the Aboriginals favourite foods, especially the tail. Australia is a damn BIG country, obviously you have NO idea how remote it can be? LIKE TOURISTS WHO THINK THE TROPICAL NORTH IS EITHER IN OR NEAR, MELBOURNE, VICTORIA. AND NO, AUSTRALIA IS NOT ALL FLAT!!! WILD DOGS AND CATS DON'T STARVE IN AUSTRALIA? THEY BECOME PUMAS AND WOLVES???
@backyardthinker599620 күн бұрын
invasive = growing uncontrollably.. perhaps with roos its controversial, if one thing is keeping roo population down here it's propably the road trains. roos can be a breeding factory if they want and if situation is ideal.. . yes they're not raised.. video is somewhat inaccurate.
@nigelbaddock18 күн бұрын
@@healingfarm92 Its actually is more environmentally friendly than cows as they produce less methane (meaning less greenhouse gas emissions) and kangaroos have less impact on the Australian land as they're native. In all truth, kangaroos should be promoted as a meat.

Bit rude to call it an invasive species. It may be a bit inconvenient but that's the fault of human populations not the roos. They cause far less environmental damage than many of the other species that were imported into Australia for meat, leather and/or wool. Kangaroo meat is pretty good too and the leather is lovely.

My brother in law is a hunter. He has property near Sofala, Bathurst NSW. He prefers to hunt pigs with just a knife and his trained hunting dogs. But, kangaroos he just shoots. He skins the animals all by himself. He always has his fridge back home in Sydney stocked up with meat from his hunts. He's getting old now, about to turn 56 and is riddled with old injuries from his youth so has slowed down and doesn't visit his property as regularly. He built it up by himself and its fully self sufficient. Hidden in the bush. There is no house on the land. Just a group of caravans, a container and a toilet block complete with a flushing toilet on a concrete block. He has goats to keep the grass down. I used to love going up with him. I have my own caravan I called Madame Zelda. I miss the sound of the wind at night and the clear view of the milky way galaxy at night. The long days and nights with no watch on, no mobile phones..the fire, the rustic meals...Everytime we'd leave Sydney and hit the Western Freeway, we would all honk our horns, wave our arms at each other out our car windows and shout "Goodbye, stinky town!!"

Australian farmers do not "raise" kangaroos. They are a native species that has learned to live, and live well, off the work of farmers sowing seed and gtowing grain. It is also their downfall in that they have gown to such numbers that calling is necessary. Kangaroos killed in the cull are not left to rot, but are taken to abattiors and are processed for their meat which is consumed by many Australians and their pets. Farmers do not gain from the killing of the roos.

As an Aussie, just so you lot can grasp the picture. Aussies rarely even eat kangaroos. Why? Well it comes down to many factors. Number 1, in most states of Australia, kangaroos are illegal to hunt. As they're a protected animal. Number 2, Store bought kangaroo meat is extremely expensive compared to a lamb chop. Number 3, Roo meat tastes like shit. But yes sadly many kangaroos are indeed raised for their meat, so are cows, pigs, sheep and even chickens. Also whats up with the shitty thumbnail?
