I forgot to mention in the video that the car did make 216whp with a 100 shot of nitrous, but I wouldn't really recommend using that size regularly on a stock bottom end, hahaha.

Hi Greg, big fan of your channel and what you did with the na platform. I just had a question because I own a NA myself. I do a lot of hwy driving and I cringe when I’m doing 70-80 and my rpm’s are at 4000. Is there a better setup: motor and diff swap that eliminates this. I’ve never owned a NB and I know they are 6 spd. Or should I go NC? Thanks

The 6-speed won't help because 6th in the Miatas 6-Speed is actually shorter than 5th in the 5-speed. The gears are just much closer. However you can look into what diff you have (most NA6 have 4.3, and NA8 have 4.1). The 3.9 is a direct swap if you have an NA8, and a pretty straightforward swap even if you have an NA6. There are also factory 3.6 diffs available but are a bit harder to get (more expensive) in the U.S. a diff swap will be the cheapest/easiest way to drop your cruising RPM

thats very similar to my turbo 280zx on 9psi with stock turbo. I think at the track it did 8.6sec 81mph. So similar HP but my 280zx was on a better 60ft and had flat shift enabled.

Some vehicles pick up et with alower shift point than running n/a. Might want to test for content. Also not sure what rpm difference I would start at with your car.

Loving the nitrous NB. Sadly on my end some bad news...not horrible but bad. Annual June road trip when we go to the finger lakes.....hour in fucking Bambi wanted to pass in-between me and Ken in his M4 (last year with stick )....looked like a deer was dropped on the hood. Bumper,fenders,hood, windshield, drivers headlight, and rad support can probably be bent back. Got a nice chunk of money from insurance but bought it back and should be back in the garage this week and work begins. I just got the damn FM motor mounts,FM clutch kit, and the torsion diff you recommend with poly bushings installed before the trip.....I just broke in the MF clutch before that deer did that. On the good note I started getting into archery andy mom's side are all hunters.... I'll be eating deer for a long time....might have some deer jerky sitting in the NB while I touch myself after I fix her. Also I'm doing a carbon fiber vented hood while putting her back together. Love the channel and keep doing your thing P.S. also cam sensor, she won't fire up and I'm 99.9% sure it's the sensor on the front of the valve cover....if I sent you a pic of of the hood you would got "yep" lmao

Not Greg. But I can tell you a 6 speed with a 4.1 will be ridiculously low geared. You may find it to your liking given the 1.6 is a little less powerful but having driven one on a 1.8 the gears are just too close together and the 4.1 will make that even worse.

I second that a 6 speed and 4.1 is silly short, it's not pleasant really as you need to change up through first and second super quickly, you're just changing gears before you can even really get the car moving, it makes pulling away a bit of a chore. 3.9 with a 6 speed at a minimum I say

I'd like to chime in since I have a 6-speed + 4.3 which is EVEN shorter than y'all 😂 it's a ton of fun IMO. If a concern is too much shifting when you're just cruising around, just skip-shift. The gears are so short it's almost like a normal shift when you skip gears. Then when you're ready to go fast you hit every gear and keep the motor screaming. For anything under like 200hp I'd recommend it.

Thank you all for chiming in and sharing your thoughts. Greg, I'm considering 6speed swap for exactly the reasons you are stating. I think 1.6, being a low hp motor, will benefit from a close and lower ratio transmission which will keep it in power band. People have 6 speeds in their turbo builds because it's a stronger unit, but turbo motor with its broader torque curve doesn't really need an extra gear. Think an older Porsche 930 which had only 4 gears vs NA 911 had 5.

@@simoncoli2314 If keeping RPM is what you are looking for, the 6-speed is the way to go. It's close to the same ratio spread, but scrunched into 6 gears rather than 5. You can skip-shift while cruising if you like, and when it's time to put the hammer down it easily stays right around peak power, and you can always find the perfect gear for corner exit

Good news is I was right...cam sensor snapped in half. I have an OEM replacement and she should fire right up...then time to start taking the front end off and getting her fixed up for a salvage title. Angry puppy will live on....or at the worst become a straight race car.
