I always wonder why people make such a big deal about the Inca not having wheels. It's a mountainous empire, people! Look at the terrain, look at the steep slopes. Putting anything on something that rolls away, is probably not the best of ideas in this environment - especially not when you don't have the animals that can safely pull it.

If they hadn't been wiped out right at that moment I think there's a good chance the Incas would have also conquered most of modern day Colombia and a small part of Venezuela. It's mostly the same climate type and was home to several advanced civilizations that would have been really nice to conquer such as the Musicas and the Timoto-Cuicas.
@celdur4635
@celdur4635 2 жыл бұрын
We have records of what happened, as soon as they got to southern Colombia most Inca advisors didn't want to move forward, the Emperor pushed forward anyways and confirmed what he was told, quote "this people are too poor and unorganized, we are going to have to teach them to do everything from scratch and spend many years doing so and transport many settlers to do so" "and its worse the further north you go" This is what the spies told the Inca, and this is why they didn't advanced further north or to what is today the Pampa region in Argentina and Uruguay.

@@connormurphy683 The point is that the Incas had no intention of advancing further north. After Huayna Capac conquered the "Pastos" (culture in present-day Colombia), they also conquered the "Quillacinga" and despite the fact that they were under Inca rule for a while, Huayna Capac decided to abandon them because, according to him, they were a town too uncivilized for the standards of the region at that time. In fact, according to Pedro Cieza de León, the "pasto" did not even know cattle rising, so they presented losses for the empire, the Incas were forced to educate them on these issues. In a last attempt with the region, the Incas sent informants further north, but these explorers reported that they had only detected extremely poor people, who practiced cannibalism. It is the same reason why they had no intention of conquering the current territory of Paraguay. Sarmiento de Gamboa described the tribes that inhabited that place (chiriguanaes), as a nation of mountain people, who went naked and openly practiced cannibalism. Something that clearly would not be useful to the empire. Probably the same happened with the south of the empire.

I just have one question How we know any of this? What’s the sources? They didn’t have any written language and they got destroyed by the spanish so the only thing way I could think of is after the destruction of the incas the spanish wrote highly unreliable account of oral traditions from some of the inca nobleties that didn’t have a good teaching nor a good account of the oral tradition it self wich mean we don’t have a good account or a reliable history of this civilization

Basically what you said, the cronistas interviewed locals the years after the conquest and the tales were registered as well in early 20th century by anthropologues as some towns and locations weren't conquested that much (as saying, they weren't spanish-ed nor peruvianized, so the old traditions kept alive)

In reality they only recorded their history by voice, their origins were doubtful, however they did several genetic studies confirming that the legend of their origins was true

The Inca culture survived or rather its remains, the people of Cusco to this day retain their native essence that is very different from the Spanish

Latin America was really where it was at when it came to native American empires. Incas, Aztecs, whoever made the Nazca lines.

Even tho there are no records of their name, the common way to call the lines-drawers culture is "nazcas"

Yes, _José Gabriel Túpac Amaru_ commonly called Tupac II, since I guess he was named after the last _Sapan Inka._ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%BApac_Amaru_II But Tupac Shakur was born Lesane Parish Crooks, however at one year of age he was renamed. His parents formed part of the Black Panther party, they were one of the African-American groups that started that whole "renaming" thing that many African-Americans did during the era and some continue to this day as they see their birth name as their "enslave" name mostly because emancipated slaves took their former master's surname. Whatever prompt the name change he has a pretty interesting name.

I wonder why the Incas never went east all the way to Brazil.The Amazon is tough to transverse but the Cerrado near Bolivia is just Savannah,and the native Tupi populations wouldn't show a much as a resistance to the Incas,since they weren't organized into a kingdom of any sorts.If they had colonized the Cerrado Region,only smallpox could defeat them,since the Portuguese took a lot of time to go there and only with recent Brazilian intervention the region became more populated.

Sistine Fibel , what di you mean, incas were very orgniazd and can carry armies up to 200,000. They can spread out,

@Xiuh But why they didn't went to the Cerrado? If the Incas could cross Bolivia, considering most of Bolivia is mountainous region like East Peru, they would reach the region of Mato Grosso which is way easier to cross than the amazon rainforest

Kinda. Around 10 million people speak quechua and about 2 million aymara, those were the two most spoken languages in the Empire, many Peruvians and south americans, specially young ones, feel proud of their heritage, tourism and art around the Incas are very popular, but still many people are racists towards anything related to native civilization, many traditions and festivities like the Inti Raymi are still popular but the catholic church is by far the most important religion in latin america, everybody knows that the god of the Inca was the Sun or "Inti" and that Mother earth or "Pachamama" was the godess of the land but few actually believe in it. It a similar situation to most post-colonial nations.

@@miguelhuaman8280 Same in the South West in USA, (the land USA stole from Mexico) The Native tribes and the Mexican ppl r the ones that bring in billions of dollars to the South West. The tourists love Native and Mexican art, music, traditions, our dances, Native art is copied and sold, but the Natives r the best at their own art. The tourists love Mariachi and Mexican food! The Natives, and Méxicans, (who r 50 percent Native or more,) have been moving the money in South West, since the first white Texans would buy animal furs and skins from the expert, the Natives. We know exactly how it is! USA seems to like a lot of our stuff, but they don't really like us! Sorry to hear this is also reflected in peru for Peru's Native ppl. Lots Peruvianos in USA, my friend, who is Peruvian, took me to a Peruvian restaurant, had fish and potatoes Peruvian style, OMG! delicious! Took my mom and sis, it's one of favorite restaurants!
