I agree 100% about the lack of weight on the cars in LMU. You feel the weight and see it shift in the cars in Iracing. Somewhat like DiRT Rally 2.0 compared to EA WRC 24. You feel the weight of the cars and see the weight transfer which you dont see or feel in DiRT Rally 2.0 LMU is a great game but they need to fix that issue, It feels like I am driving the HUD of a car, Not an actual simulated car. If that makes sense, In Iracing or EA WRC 24, I FEEL like I am in a simulated car, Not just driving the HUD of a car.

@CoachDaveAcademy
@CoachDaveAcademy Ай бұрын
Sim racing setups are *very* different to real life due to the limitations of what a racing game is capable of simulating, the accuracy of the rules relative to real life... etc. There are just too many factors to cover before sim can consider how close their setups are to real life. It's better to think of racing game setups as a way to decode what the developers of each sim perceive to be important.

Thank you for this comparison. It is always interesting for simracers :) There is one very interesting thing in the latest LMU. And it is ABS force feedback effect on the wheel, which is ridiculous to me. It's something that is unusual in real cars, as well as on other sims. I have no idea why they implemented such thing. It is extremely annoying for me - and the only reason I don't play LMU. My experience is based on 720S, I didn't buy DLC because of that. Thank you for providing some legitimacy to those who have been complaining about the low speed force feedback. Some of us are getting of tired of being told by LMU zealots that our skills are lacking or the game is doing everything perfectly, or it's just our equipment. Hopefully feedback from a real 296 GT3 driver will move the needle for studio 396. They are so close. I have to ask about wheel oscillation and violent little jolts (quick FFB grab+release) going down the straight. How much of that is realistic?
@CoachDaveAcademy
@CoachDaveAcademy Ай бұрын
If you’re struggling with the movement on the straights I would recommend turning down your FFB. In real life the steering is pretty light because of the power steering. But I do acknowledge it’s a difficult balance to get right in the game. In terms of overall FFB I have spoken with the guys at S397 about my feelings. Let’s see what happens there. ~ Dave

Never got the chance to race cars, did race karts during a career spanning 20 years starting at 1989. rFactor 2 has been my go to sim and while the physics may be too slidey for cars they did feel very natural for me that I had grown used to driving karts on low grip hard tires (racing on a budget) on low grip Greek tracks. iRacing? there's no feel of the limit, cars just snap out of control and I don't like turning in a million laps just to be able to keep the car on track. Next year the Virtual Endurance Championship will migrate from RF2 to LMU and I will migrate too with it. I found the comments on the FFB intriguing, driving the GT3s and some other cars in RF2 through some medium to high speed corners the cars sometimes feel absolutely sensational on certain tracks and corners, bringing back real life memories, this does not happen at the slow stuff. I remember driving the Palatov D4 on Croft in RF2 and at the last S of the track, the way the car gripped and changed direction was so reminiscent of my kart I was almost in tears from joy, I could just feel it like irl minus the g-forces and somehow the way it was translated through the wheel it kind of immitated the g-forces as well. I had to stop racing due to family and job obligations and simracing helped me maintain sanity and make the transition to family life without feeling I had lost much. Same for modern cars that are total shite, I bought a bike instead, I get my driving fix in RF2 nowadays and I'm a happy bunny, they can keep the electric steering and shove it... Cheers!

@CoachDaveAcademy I nearly don't feel the peak of self-aligning torque of tyres in Ferrari 296 in Le Mans Ultimate using a direct drive wheel. It's very hard to perceive it and the feedback mostly feels even at the moment of peak and when you exceed that peak. In ACC in contrast to LMU it's very easy to perceive. I would be grateful if you can tell if you easily feel the self-aligning torque peak in the real Ferrari 296 GT3? Thank you.

I'd say that ACC has the closest FFB 'feel' compared to real life. But in ACC you are missing a bunch of feedback from braking and the tyre sliding across the surface. Still, it's the best of a bad bunch. None of them are perfect.

I find it quite interesting how different everyones experience is in comparison to mine. I tried the game twice (On Release-Day and Oktober) and everytime I had majors issues with the handling, performance and force feedback. So I returned the game twice so far. I don't know if it is a common issue that the game takes forever to load and frequently drops fps. Handling and FFB wise the game never really gave me the feeling that I know what happens to the car. For instance, I never understood why my rear stepped out or when it is starting to do so. Which is why I couldn't countersteer or lift of the gas in time, which caused a lot of frustration on my end. Can anyone maybe tell me where I am going wrong here? I would love to give the game another shot, especially after a LMGT3 driver says he uses it for practice sessions and because of the good feedback I frequently see online, but on my end it behaved terribly so I am hesitant to try it again.

I have read and seen across multiple reviews since the update/LMGT3 add on, and to your point - the universal consensus is the low speed ‘feels’, or lack thereof.

I call that nitpicking. I love the rF2 and LMU but the GT3 are undriveable for me with the ABS, it can't be that you can feel the ABS effect so extreme in the FFB that you can't brake properly into the curve because you can't feel the road, as you can see What about the ABS effect?

And I don't think my FFB is too strong either, since I only have 8NM. Is it correct that the GT3 has around 10-12nm in the real car? Then I find it strange that when trail breaking you only notice the ABS shaking Fanatec CSLDD

@@CoachDaveAcademy thanks a lot for clarifying this moment with ABS. I had a feeling that it had too strong force feedback on braking. But now as you clarify it is real I have no complains. I mostly had this feeling of very strong feedback jumping from ACC where you don't feel ABS at all. But here in LMU after 10 laps I stop feeling ABS at most because I start braking properly up to the limit of ABS. If it's real then it's real, no need to change anything, we just need to adapt our braking to real life from simplified simulation. But it's important that you as a real driver confirm that it's what is actually felt in the real 296. Thank you!

@AL.farmlife
@AL.farmlife Ай бұрын
btw: In Le Mans Ultimate (LMU), steering resistance coefficient and saturation settings affect the force feedback (FFB) behavior, specifically the weight and dynamic range of the steering feel. Here’s a breakdown: Steering Resistance Coefficient This setting adjusts the level of resistance felt when turning the wheel. It simulates how heavy or light the steering feels by adding friction or damping forces to the wheel. Higher values result in heavier steering, giving a stronger sensation of the car’s resistance to turning. Lower values make the steering feel lighter and easier to turn, which may suit long stints to reduce fatigue. Saturation Saturation determines the maximum output of the FFB signal. It effectively compresses or limits the strength of the forces. Higher saturation makes forces feel more pronounced, but it may cause clipping (where subtle details are lost because the force exceeds the wheel's capability). Lower saturation allows for finer detail but at the cost of less overall strength.

It could be my settings, but I have heard other people say that as well, including James Baldwin. With that will come budget increases and a chase for performance. One of the biggest reasons why Hypercar is so successful right now is because of the stringent drag/power restrictions and the overall budgets making it very appealing to manufacturers. Otherwise the risk is that it goes the way of LMP1 and a dead class. Making the cars a lot faster will do that.

@@CoachDaveAcademy Not true. It's easy enough to lift a HP restriction from 680HP to 800HP. That's as a simple as a boost increase on turbocharged engines (assuming they designed the engines with sufficient margin, which is pretty likely). The strict rules also have a lot to do with protecting F1 (boring) as the crown jewel in FIA. That's why they killed Group C in the early 90s.
