I went to selection in 2004 I was 37 years old. I had 10 months to prepare and I felt confident and physically prepared. I was given guidance at my unit (19th Group) I was running 3 miles 3 times a week and 6 miles 2 days a week. I rucked 10 miles 2 times a week. I was going to the gym in the morning prior to going to work. I was a letter carrier at the time. Walking 8 to 12 miles a day, 6 days of week. I ended up having a freak accident and fractured my spine and lost my AB status. Game over. My biggest disappointment of my life.

It's so hard to mentally transition from military life to civilian life when you didn't get to complete everything you wanted to. I did get to do 2 schools, but Man, I wish I was still in. It's been 8yrs and I think about it every moment of the day.

Currently at 1SFG and all i can say, some guys pass selection who are skinny and alot have dad bods. Yes being physically fit is a huge point, but you need to mentally prepare. Make sure your home life is good before you go so you have no worries. Team week is hell but everyone to your left and right are also in hell. Just know thousands have come through this course before you and thousands have passed.

Wish someone had told me this when I was in pre-GWOT. Was doing 290+ on my PT test, but the rumors were that going to selection you should have the lower body of a marathoner and the upper body of a bodybuilder. Wrecked my body with andro trying to do that. Thanks for educating the next generation.

According to insights from individuals with specialized military training, such as Recon Marines, Green Berets, and Rangers, success often hinges on mental fortitude and a steadfast commitment to perseverance. Failure typically stems not from physical limitations, but rather from a lack of exposure to adversity and inadequate coping mechanisms for stressful circumstances. I’m not saying you don’t have to be physically fit of course you do but you have to mainly be willing to NOT GIVE UP.
@dexterbase
@dexterbase 5 күн бұрын
In these circumstances, fitness is assumed. There is a minimum baseline level of fitness required to even be accepted into the screening programs. WITH THAT LEVEL OF FITNESS ASSUMED, it is a mental game after that. If you show up without being able to pass the physical screening tests, no matter how strong your mental game is, you will fail. If you had the mental game in check, you wouldn’t be showing up unprepared in the first place.
@diegoPJPRMFF
@diegoPJPRMFF 5 күн бұрын
@@dexterbase Sure, let me rephrase that for you, You need to be physically fit and meet the minimum requirements (common sense) but most people don't quit because of the physical challenges; it's more about the mental toughness required to succeed.

Back in the day, there was much different from today. The first requirement was to be at least an E-5 to be considered. I don't remember how old you needed to be, but it wasn't just coming off the block. You had to pass the SFSB, PT, psych test, and swimming test. That was before you started the training. A good deal of the training was learning your skill sets, MOS requirements. Academic requirements were quite high and would get you dropped if you couldn't keep up. Now Ranger training is a pee bringer.

I was an Avenger Crewmember(14S MOS). When I worked with the infantry I had to carry around 135lbs for 20 miles. I had a trainer stinger missile that weighed 40lbs, a 50lb rucksack, 40lbs body armor, helmet, rifle and 2 canteens full of water. Imaginer carrying 135lbs for 12 miles in around 2 hours. That's what they made me do in the regular army. Some guys from my unit couldn't make it past Special Forces Q course.

I spent 20 years as an infantryman to include RR. You might want to rethink how much weight you actually carried. The heaviest rucksack I’ve ever carried was in LRSD and they were packed to be no more than 100lbs and I’m telling you right now you didn’t carry 135lbs for 20 miles.

@@VictoryOrValhalla14 I told you the weights. The ruck sack was 50lbs, stinger missile trainer was 40lbs, I had on 40lb body armor, had a M4 Carbine rifle, helmet, and 2 canteens full of water. That's probably over 135lbs. They made me carry it 12 miles in less than 3 hours when I was in 101st airborne. I did carry it 25 miles during training at the urban warfare training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. They dropped us off in the woods around 12am when I was training with A company 2/327th infantry regiment and I didn't get to rest until around 8am in the morning. They had me going in circles that night for miles. Multiple guys were injured during that march up and down hills in the Kentucky woods.

Or should it just be pure calisthenics? For example, I’m mixing normal push ups with bench pressing , military press and incline arms, I do this with every muscle group according to the PST standards and it’s followed by 5 to 10 miles runs 5 days a week I rest 2 to 3 days. I was warned that that it’s possible I can get injured by mixing the two .. any advice?

Mentally, be the toughest SOB in the playground, flexibility in your planning and your information management, and physically a god. If you are not all three, you won't make it in real world operations. Live in the gym, keep your head in the books, and always be learning and studying your craft. From TTP's, to Training, to Instruction/ Instruction. You need to keep your hole shut, as well. Don't say shit to anyone, unless you are giving your left and right encouragement. In the community, because no one wants "THAT GUY" around. As to the training? Camp ---------- is from another world, located in another dimension, in a time zone from the past. The people who work there see all, and you have the deck stacked against you if you are a cake eater. On some days and nights out there, you can feel your forefathers from the past with you for the ride, and they are always watching you. If you make it to Camp ---------, you are a part of history.

You sound like a operator yourself. I’m about to turn 16 and I have a clear, focused vision on becoming a Green Beret, for I don’t see myself doing anything else. I grind physically, and I’m always working out. Like you mentioned as well, keeping your head in the books is something I do also; I’m very proficient in writing and always reading . Their are only 3 main things that concern me whether if I’ll make it or not, and that is the ASVAB test regarding math, ( I’ll try to comprehend and study) the attributes they look for, and land navigation for I never practice land navigation, not even once. Everything else, I feel confident accomplishing. I know you are supposed to adapt to whatever they give you and demand of, and I can only prepare so much in that regard. Besides that, I’m also very pious, because once I do SF for a good amount of time, I’m hoping to change my MOS to becoming an Army Chaplain. For now, I’m just grinding physically, trying to understand basic mathematics, and continuing devoting myself with my faith. You have any suggestions or advice that may up my chances on my concerns or in general? You sound like you know your stuff. Please respond :)

All the units you mention are Army “Special Operations.” And there are a few other Army SOF units. Special Forces means Green Berets. “Delta Force” (as it was known in the Chuck Norris movie is Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta. You’ll hear them use other different names, but most prefer “The Unit.” It is a Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) “Special Missions Unit” (counter terrorism and hostage rescue focused, like its Navy peer). Then there are the Rangers. Don’t confuse “Ranger Tabbed” soldiers with members of Ranger Regiment (e.g., those with the Ranger “scroll,” who very likely also have Ranger Tabs). Rangers also have a JSOC SMU… Clear as mud? As a civilian, it took me a while to figure this all out when helping SOF folks to transition. One thing is in common, though. The men and women I’ve come to know from these and other SOF units are awesome patriots and amazing people…

SF is for dudes who are willing to go through pointless training to avoid infantry SOCOM is mainly for POGs to feel special They fail most their missions and are overrated It’s all infantry at the end of the day

How much are you being paid to keep leaving comments like this?😂 Jocko's a grown man, he can defend himself. Military records dont lie, if it weren't true more veterans would be defending him...not speaking out against him. Has any of Jockos "friends" posted any videos backing him up? If Jocko's stories are legit, then they'll speak for themselves, there will be evidence of it and no one has to say anything right?
