Thanks as always for another excellent lesson Miku. I really enjoy your style of teaching, and especially appreciate the delays to pause and attempt to self-translate before seeing the answer! Also the links back to earlier lessons are great - I was pleased to remember よかったら before you said it! Some alternative translations I came up with before seeing the answers: Is there anything you want to eat? 好物はありますか? I'm looking forward to it! 楽しいはず!

As always you make great videos, I'd be fun to join in one of your videos one day. Also you should make a video for those who still don't get it and ask a Japanese girl out but not realise that our "hanging out" in England or America (depending on the person...) is the Japanese equivalent to a "date". Where I'm from if me and you go and eat or hang out, it's not a "date" it's just me and you hanging out. If it were a 'date' we would (80% i feel) make it clear, "how about me go on a date" or something like that. Now the whole meaning of a date is you either have spoken to that person for a bit and have some form of connection or off the bat you're certain that you have feelings for her. But overall the whole meaning of a date is to confirm wether or not there is 'something' there, whether or not you're confident in making this person your partner, where they end goal is to make the person your bf/gf. I think (from my experiences) even just 'hanging out' with a female can be taken the wrong way and before you know it, they might catch feelings for you. I never admitted to having feelings or ever said the word "date" but they got that vibe and I had to learn that hard way of then turning down a bunch of girls who confessed to me. I had met this girl like 3 times and said "so ...aren't you going to ask me out" and I said "what" and she said "In Japan we don't really wait that long" obviously I guess it depends on the person but what she said wasn't a shock but to have been asked like that lol was a bit like "oh word, that's how ya'll do it over here" Regardless nice video, sorry for the blabbing and if you haven't maybe make a video about this, I think it'd be cool.

Hey Miku! In Brazil we (men) do the same when we're sure the other person likes us as well! *We sometimes resort to a confident friend to act as matchmaker so that we can know in advance what that person loves to eat or where they love to go!😊* In case of women, in my culture men are expected to have initiative! Thanks to watching your video I just learned three more helpful phrase「よかったら」・「ラインを交換」 Would not "meet up" be a by-meaning of「待ち合わせする」as it literally means "to expect each other"? Hugs

This reminds me of when I went on a date and I didn't know if it was a date or not but I got really nervous during dinner and my Japanese got progressively worse and worse and worse and then we both got secret depression when I accidentally heard her go make herself throw up in the toilet after dinner and she realized I heard it and I knew we could never talk about it even though I didn't feel judgemental and was more worried about all the dumb shit I said while trying to communicate and figure out if I was on a date at the same time, and if she was okay. Anyway my spoken Japanese still has no social skills (no surprise given what I'm like in English) so this was pretty helpful. Well, assuming I'll ever going to be in the position to go on a date in Japanese again anyway lol. It all seems so obvious after you say it but I'd never come up with these constructions (the ones I didn't know from encountering them before) by myself. One thing I'd maybe add is that the word 集合 is sometimes used to describe meeting up, but it's also a mathematical set if you try to use the dictionary. I don't know how often it's used in dating but I get it a lot with colleagues. As for my country of origin, there's no real structure to the dating culture in NZ and it's basically pure chaos. My only relationship there was also really fucked up so that probably doesn't help, but even so, people often say that we don't really date. People often meet at house parties, public events, or at hobby-related activities and then begin a complicated and messy relationship in a style highly specific to the participants, typically with a lot of texting. So for the people comfortable with it, they tend to be good at rolling with whatever happens and dealing with unknown situations and unexpected turns of events. There's people from everywhere in New Zealand, and New Zealanders with parents from everywhere too. So even if your grandparents came from the same town as someone else, your relationship history is probably not the same, except for being in the same overarching cultural context of New Zealand as a whole. The usual strategy seems to be to just ask them to hang out doing something you both probably like. If a date occurs at all.

Ex: 誘う(=invite) turns to 誘われた(= I was invited) 使役 (causative) is when you cause someone else to do sth 誘わせた(= I made someone invite someone else) 受身使役 (causative passive) is when you are forced to cause someone to do sth else 誘わせられた (I was forced to invite...) I expect to have helped you... see you!

it's so funny that the LINE app made people make the verb "line suru" around it. We have the same thing in dutch: "watsappen" is a verb made for the watsapp app and it means "to watsapp" and "appen" with means "apping" (texting in watsapp). and we can also use it as "een apje sturen" (send an app) and that means: send a message.

I could be wrong, but I think ga is used more when things are concrete and determinate, whereas ha is used when there could be more to the story. Kind of like a and the. ‘Is there A place you want to go’ rather than ‘is there THE place you want to go.’ ‘The’ doesn’t make sense in that case. That’s just how I see it.

You need to learn hiragana, friend! It's not very hard.

You have to force yourself to learn hiragana first and katakana second if you want to make any progress with learning Japanese. It’s very important and relying on romanization will stunt your growth.
