Thanks Mr BluntNose. Ted isn't really skating at the moment. Busy life with not much time or anyone he wants to skate with in his area. I only just started skating the plaza a bit more again. Thanks for the reply. I moved to Auckland, New Zealand a few months ago and not sure when I'm back but will definitely let you know when I do! If you haven't done it already, I'm sure that you'd be able to back tail over the grate by that long ass ledge at plaza. I wanted to try that but had to leave Canada by the time I felt ready. Didn't help that I had to work in Nelson BC for the last 2 years. Anyways, I heard that Plaza might be torn down soon so might as well skate the hell out of it. Thanks again for your reply. Take care. Looking forward to your next video.

@bendegros6 жыл бұрын
Hi Evan:) There was a short window of time where I think I could have done something with my skating. Maybe from about 16 to 22. The problem was I spent that time drinking and doing drugs so I was not keeping pace with the progression of skateboarding. Also, at that time it was pretty hard to have a career in skating without doing big gaps and rails and I have never been into them. Also, I never actually quit skating but I started having kids at 25 so I was much more focused on career and family from about 25-35. I still skated but I was slowly losing my abilities over time. Lately I have been skating at my highest ability since my mid 20's so that is nice.

The unwaxed curb recommendation is kind of a YYMV bit of advice. If you get too comfortable knowing you're going to stop dead, it can lead to really bad habits in terms of where your back foot and body's weight and balance are when you start trying to slide for real. And that can lead to exactly the kind of slip outs Ben shows can happen. I'm actually more of a proponent of trying it on a slightly waxed surface so you learn sooner where proper balance and weight are. On a buttered ledge learning you're going to slip and fly out a majority of the time and it'll be more tedious to find the nuance in balance because the margin of error will be so skewed toward slipping out anyhow. On something that will slide a bit with proper balance you'll know when you're right. When you're wrong, you'll stop dead or slip out a bit but nothing too severe.
