Another strategy is to listen to, and choose, your use of language. For example, "We can't afford that." or "We aren't choosing to spend our money on that right now."

It's very HARD to accept responsibility for everything that happens in my life when anything that goes wrong at work my boss puts all of it on me. I can recognize the role I played in the situation, but he never can, and when he pushes it all on me there's some natural opposing resistance there.

You are right, it is definitely not easy. I want to point out an important distinction, though. Your comment about how your boss puts things that go wrong at work on you sounds more like blame than responsibility. While those two things are definitely related, they are not the same. You should not accept blame for things that aren't your fault. But at the same time, you can accept responsibility for your own actions, even if only for choosing to stay in a job that (presumably) makes you miserable. I hope you are able to find a resolution to your difficult situation.

This is very interesting. I have been thinking about this for sometime. I think I have an external locus of control. I would like to develop an internal locus of control. I am looking for the previous parts could you please direct me to the location.
