tony Who determines what the true meaning of scripture is to you? I was a Baptist for most of my life. Protestants have an authority problem. If I am a Baptist and you are a Methodist, and we disagree on the interpretation of scripture, then we just pick our favorite verses, and try to win the argument. If we each get to decide what Truth is in scripture, then the Bible is not your actual authority, but rather, you are your own Pope

@@jerodfrank6419 In scripture, when Phillip encounters the eunuch, he asked him if he understood what he was reading. The eunuch said "how can I, unless someone instructs me." Phillip represents the Church. So he instructs him, and then he is baptized.

This blew my mind. I'm 20 years old and in college. I wish everyone in my university could understand how indescribably beautiful the Catholic view of marriage is. Recently I spoke to a few women my age who were convinced marriage is a patriarchal institution and that marrying a man would result in a lifetime of submission and weakness. They would rather be single, rich, and promiscuous all their lives than marry a man. I've also met men who live to increase their "body count" (amount of women they hook up with). This type of lifestyle is encouraged and normal in universities now, and I GET IT. Within a purely agnostic worldview this makes sense. Especially if you grew up in a divorced household with abusive or irresponsible parents. It's not that people my age don't understand the value of marriage, a lot of them just haven't experienced the beauty of living in a household with two loving parents united by God. The decline of the family has harmed the youth more than any other group. The Catholic view of marriage and family is the best answer to an increasing culture of death. The honesty and power of this interview helped me see that. I'm going to med school, so it may be a while, but I'm excited to be a husband and a father someday. What a beautiful adventure it must be.

Bless you in the pursuit of a holy spouse and blessed family! Just celebrated 20 years (with 5 children) with my husband, and it's such a beautiful thing! It brings me to tears just contemplating it! I pray right now for your future wife, young man, that our Lord is preparing her in this moment and leading you to each other. ❤️

And how refreshing to see someone so mature and clear-minded for such a young guy! Bless you - you'll be a true gift to a very lucky woman (and kids) some day! "Body count"? Jeez....how awfull....!! And yeah - that TRULY is an expression of the culture of death - because that's exactly what it is! Killing the soul of someone a little every time you use them just for "fun". Truly. And believe me - the opinion voiced by these women is not what they truly want - it's a defence mechanism in a cut throat world.... trust me.

@@Mimse79 I think my parents helped me to see how beautiful and meaningful having a family is. That's why good parents are so important. The Grace of God helped me to see that without Christianity or something like it grounding society, the family will eventually fall apart. It might not be in this generation, but having a family may not be the norm in the next couple generations. We're seeing plenty of signs of that today. I also think you're right about my friends. Both women had been through a lot of pain, hopefully God heals them. I probably would've ended up thinking much like them if I didn't have good loving parents. As Catholics It's certainly time to defend the family.

@@javiermariscal5712 you seem like a really grounded person who is also able to have compassion with and see the issues of others - that's really important when discussing Catholic viewpoints with others.... And yes: the family and relationships and self idendity itself IS falling apart in our time now - it's both scary and very, very sad - and at the same time I hope there is also some kind of divine meaning behind all of this... at least we must do our share to bring the truth and love of Christ to others, to make them see the awesome value of every single human being - and then why we should respect everyone and not just use and abuse them for our own purposes. Sounds like you have great parents - you are lucky!! God bless, brother :) Your sister in Christ.

Many interesting facets to this jewel of an interview. The one that fixed my attention most intensely was the part about "finding THE right person" as a spouse. The topic is especially interesting to me because free will within Providence, participating in and becoming sacrament, the interplay between temporality and eternity. Everyone marries the only person that is right for them; not due to chemistry, or outlook or emotional compatibility. Any married person knows that these dimensions of the relationship are tested in very short order. What makes the other person the only person with whom we can share this existence is what WE do. We pledge to one another before God and Man to love, honor and cherish. That oath can only be fulfilled in a monogomous, exclusive intimate relationship. By saying "I Do", we make the other person the perfect match for us for the rest of our natural lives. We may not come to each other as the ideal match someone who knows us well might have selected, or for that matter, if we knew them more completely, the ideal person we imagined marrying ourselves. The moment, however, that we utter those vows, we become transformed by the sacrament, and we transform each other; we take on a new identity, which can no longer be described without mention of the connection that marriage forms. Yes, we are all married to the "perfect" mate! We made each other into that person without whom our most important reason for living would be estranged were we ever to shrink from, reneg upon, or dishonor that noble, holy oath.

This covid crisis has been a great leveller, forcing us all to spend time with our families and to look out for our friends as well as the lonely and the sick, etc. I feel like this is God preparing us for the Illumination of Conscience. Perhaps I'm wrong but this seems like the time to experience it, while we have been largely removed from worldly things and from focusing on money, partying and spectator sports. I'm sure that no matter how well we are prepared for it, it's going to be a shock to each of us, but the way to respond is with humility and obedience, not fear and despair. Matt, troughout the conversation you repeat several times that it's so great and so important that dr Hahn talks about his failures and mistakes because a lot of men can have idealised view of what the life of other families look like and being honest about the imperfections can lift up their spirit. At the same time you and dr Hahn both talk about your wives as if they were these perfect, flawless, strong, always loving superwomen. You make it seem like you, as men, were the only ones that need improving in your marriages. And that just makes me, as a woman, feel miserable and like I will never marry a godly man because I'm not worthy of that because I'm not like your wives. Think about that, please.

@@jasminabudzinska2696 you are worthy of being loved like that because it’s God’s will for a husband to love his wife like that. Scott and Matt aren’t perfect and they know their wives aren’t either. No one is perfect. Their love and admiration for their wives is not dependent on the woman meeting an unrealistic ideal. They are true men of God, they understand that their role is to love their wives as Christ loves the church, and focus on their own flaws and spiritual development. Every woman is worthy of being loved as God commands her husband to love her, because it has nothing to do with “worth.” It’s about grace and obeying the Lord. Embrace that you are worth being loved so thoroughly, by a humble and self-reflective man, exactly as you are! And pray to keep growing in your own virtue so you can love him properly too, in all his humanness and imperfection. Don’t let husbands and marriages like the Hahn’s and Fradd’s discourage you. Let them inspire you. God wants you to have a husband and marriage like that, and He doesn’t demand that either you or your spouse be “perfect” in order to receive it.

Generation Z more than any current generation I think is going to be responsible for potentially making or breaking the fight for the family. This is an extremely important topic for discussion: the importance and sanctity of the family. The concept of family is totally misinterpreted these days; It’s disintegrating and fading away bc of this misconception of it being patriarchal and bc of the feminist movement and the freedom of sex and the liberals. It’s sooo sad. We need to have more of this kind of public discussions, not only in traditional and religious circles but also to progressives. And What a disaster that would be. I’ve watched videos of traditional people talking with progressives and I’ve seen how heated and rude they can be. The Devil is showing himself in all his ugliness in our times. In my culture (I’m an Armenian Orthodox from the Middle East) there’s a saying that goes: the family is a miniature of a church, meaning, it’s a small church in itself with God being the head of the family, and it’s sacred. I believe those days are gone. I pray for the restoration of the family every single day more than anything else.

It’s such a sinful perversion of Christ when abusive men use the Bible to harm women and children. The entire story of the Bible is men learning to grow a conscience and properly relate to the Lord so that they lay down power and domination and instead become humble servants and protectors of women and children. I have experienced this kind of generational abuse from men who would turn scripture into a weapon of satan as well, and I found this talk with Scott Hahn to be incredibly healing. He knows what Christianity is REALLY about, which is crushing the evil of abusiveness that lurks in the hearts of men. A godly Catholic man that I know from my church likes to say that the entirety of Biblical history can be summed up as the story of men learning how to love women as cherished, precious equals. Because that’s what was wrong with Adam, and what Christ came to fix. Adam didn’t know how to properly love Eve, he abandoned her to fend for herself. Jesus came to pay the price and show them what a real man looks like-He sacrifices himself every day to tenderly love and protect his family. No abusive man understands who Christ actually is.

Hi Matt, how's it going? How is it possible to contact you about a speaking opportunity? I went on your website and sent emails to 2 or 3 different email addresses, and none of the emails went through. Thanks!

meh the take on men and women is pretty cold and I don't see how he gets that from scripture or tradition. basically men exist to make women feel good and women exist to correct men so they can make them feel good?

What sort of question is "How to be the Spiritual Leader of Your Family" What does 'spiritual' even mean as a word? I can meet 100 people of some 'faith' and get a 100 different ideas on the wishy washy claim of spiritualism. Also 'faith' is a what people use when they don't have any good evidence for their claim. Faith is not a pathway to the truth as anyone can believe any claim based on faith. The 9-11 people had faith in their god so is a useless term, very much like 'spiritual'. Besides it sound more like the sexist male being the head of the family, just cannot stand that especially not in 2021! Utter nonsense and a big thumbs down.

Did you actually watch this video at all, or just have an extreme emotional response over the title?

@@Seliz463 Vent - yes I watched it and it was terrible. I will admit that I do have emotional responses to complete and utter BS spouted by people trying to control others,. Religion is a vile "virus" that becomes infected into our young brains usually by our parents as they were infected with this nonsense by their parents. Why "Oh why" Vent do you think for one second that there is a magical supernatural god watching you take a poop and have sex? When were you convinced and by whom? Be honest, your god is watching what you type, did you grow up with your god beliefs from being raised in a religious family, culture, community, school, or country?

As a Catholic ... I'll admit ... this was an utterly terrible interview. Shame on Scott Hahn. Shame on his institution if this his is way of teaching any one of his classes. No one should pay for this unintelligible garbage. Despicable. He obviously knew he was spouting drivel during his interview. He is still a protestant. He still needs to work that out before thrusting himself into the Catholic light. He has hurt the Church in the midst of not realizing this. He has only he own (lack of) masculinity to blame.
