Retired cop here. Colin, you brushed up against one of the problems we are having in LE. The GWOT took so many amazing young men and women away from the hiring pool of LE, we lowered our standards. Now, it's not all, we for some great people during the GWOT but we also got some folks who were not the "best and brightest". And, with the upward pulling vacuum or retirements, some of these folks got promoted. Some all the way to Chief. And, good gawd, make a T-shirt about this video so people ask me about it!❤

Times are changing fast. Folks in schools, law enforcement, government don't like consequences - unfortunately you can not have these things w/o rules and fear of the punishment for breaking the rules. Thanks for your insight my friend and thanks for watching :)

Great video and great advice. It's also good to see you wearing a respirator while sanding, something I need to do all the time rather than some of the time. I have a little 3x2.5" sanding block that's perfect for compound curve areas. Have a great weekend!

Another great video. Do you have a video(s) on sanding convex surfaces? I have several motorcycle tanks and body work I will be prepping for paint. I see you went over the lower portion in this video with the DA. Is that the answer? Thanks, Ken

I had a guy paint a car for me and he said he needed metal etching paint before filler was applied, I would think it's a good idea but the last shop I worked for didn't do this and the one I'm working for now doesn't as well, what do you think?
@gm-lb9oe Жыл бұрын
Do you work in autobody??? Just wondering, as you were saying shop? They are probably talking about metal etch primer, or they might be talking about epoxy primer??? Just pound your dent out, do some grinding, making sure there is no old paint, its all clean bare metal. Mix your filler, put it on, and do what Jerry is doing. I use 24 grit discs, and grind slowly so you don't heat the metal up. If you get the metal to hot, it might tin can on you, and you can't put bondo on that, you will have to shrink the metal first. And with the metal nowadays more care is needed, as its super thin, not like the old car were. Jerry is the absolute greatest, he explains, everything he does in detail, unlike a lot of clowns on youtube

@@gm-lb9oe thanks for the info yes, I am refiring to auto body shops, I'm still green just doing this kind of work for about a year now. did my first rear quarter and a bedside. seems odd that the factory dose this but body shops dont.

@@Draintheswamp2024 Hi. My understanding is the newer vehicles are dipped in a solution vat when they are going down the assembly line. Its a chemical reaction, that occurs between the solution in the vat and the cars metal body, frame etc. It literally becomes part of the steel, which protects the steel from flash rusting on the assembly line. Then it goes down the assembly line. If you hand strip a car with stripper, you will not remove that layer of protection, and you can leave it bare metal, touch it with your hands and it should not rust from that. However, the minute you take a grinder to the metal to scratch it up for bondo, you remove that layer of protection, and it will flash rust there, but no where else. And please what ever you do, dont apply bondo on top of epoxy sealer. It won't work. It may work for a short time, but I'm old school, and do what Jerry does, rough the metal up then put bondo on. Alot of guys on you tube are doing it wrong, beware. Watch ALL of Jerry's videos and you can't go wrong. The only other one I trust on you tube is My Friend Pete, SWRNC autobody. Jerry is 1st, Petes second, all the others are crap. And one channel on the tube here, says you need all the diffrent and real expensive spray guns. You DONT. Some old timers like their Binks 7 , which I also have , and I love my old Devilbiss. You don't need 10000 spray guns. Hope that helps you out. If not, give me another jingle, willing to help you out. Good luck on your career
