Dr Berg you truly are a Godsend. Your tools and encouragement is so very empowering and because of you I have from 182lbs A1C 8.6 T2D have lost a lot off weight and now I am 128lbs to A1C 6.3 and now a pre diabetic. I did it with your tools strategic planning intermittent fasting and exercise of walking 5 days a week 8000 to 10000 Steps a day. Now I am walking up flight of stairs 10 floors every 2 days twice a week and I am a 60 year old female and on no meds. My Dr begged me to go on Diabetic meds and cholesterol meds I blatantly refused. It took me a year falling off many times but I refused defeat as I am a fighter because you empowered me. It’s also your voice it’s very passive and relaxing and you comprehend and speak in a monotone frequency that’s therapeutic. Much much appreciated thanks so much I highly recommend you to everyone. I healed myself by not eating foods that spike insulin. No starch, fruit, grains. Meat, cheese, vegetables. I was in the emergency ready to die upon diagnosis and cured myself 3 months later. I am also off all meds. You must go Low Carb High fat. That is the ONLY way. Go for brisk 25 minute walk after every meal. That simple.

No, you are incorrect. You will never find a cure because it is a dietary issue!! Do your homework. It would be considered reversed. That is the cure. Once you eliminate the glucose out of your liver, pancreas and bloodstream, there is no more diabetes. You need to get RID of the blood sugar through fasting and diet. You will not ever find a magic pill to cure a dietary issue. There will never be a cure as long as the standard american diet is the same. I can now eat what I want and I know how to rid the blood of glucose. So that is the cure -- it's not a disease like leukemia or something. The diet caused it, the change in diet uncause it! A year ago my fasting blood sugar was 15.0 and now it is 3.8. I'd say that cured! You just don't understand what you are talking about when you say you will find a cure. There will never be a magic pill and if you understood how diabetes starts and proceeds, then you can also learn to undo it. The cause of a flooded engine is too much gas, so if you are able to clear the gas out of the tank, and then not overfill it again, one would say the gas tank is no longer flooded and the car is fixed!

Dr. Eric Fung, a researcher into the dynamics of diabetes has found that the ''cure'' is the problem! That too much insulin is what causes diabetes and ironically THE DRUG they use to manage diabetes causes worse and worse diabetes. The receptors break down and they keep feeding the receptors more and more sugar/insulin. Imagine a circle going clockwise. To begin the indicator is high sugar so they give you medicine to control it which increases the sugar and demands ever increasing amounts within the medication they give you and they keep increasing it because the body becomes resistant Dr. Eric Fung has come to the conclusion that the meds aren't working but diet does and he would agree with Dr. Berg that changing the diet is actually the ''cure'' as Pearly Q above says. Start the diet and eventually you will come off the rat poison they are giving you - and you will have no more diabetes!

I am 73 and decided I wanted to loose weight. I couldn't hardly breath and my knees were giving out at 5'4" and weight in at 218 pounds. Then between the fat fast and low carb and exercise routine. Living on meat and vegetables and fat I am not down to 163 pounds and feel great. But the bone doctor suggested I should weigh 144 so I want to be between 145 and 150. So I now have 18 pounds to go.

so much wasted time doing ineffective diets. Hopefully this will help people on the future. Great job doc. Also i want to add, a lot of people get scared of the "0 carbs" thing. They think they are gonna starve, get weak, be hungry all day, etc. No such thing... its been 6 weeks since i enter ketosis, and im not hungry anymore. I eat for schedule reasons so i dont lose too much weight too fast, but as far as eating for hunger... thats on the past. Even something i thought it was impossible. Im not hungry after training 2 hours on the gym, i come back home and im completely relaxed, just drinking stuff and resting. Before keto, when i got back home from the gym, i would eat everything.... Now thats a thing from the past.

Great video, I been at this weightloss plateau for three almost four weeks now. The scale won't move past 160 (trying to get to 130-135) despite carb cycling 5 extremely low carb/low calorie days and 2 high carb/high calorie days. Daily Intermittent Fast 14/10. 3 days Fasted Cardio, 3 days Fasted Calisthenics. My final weekly macros are 1287 cal, 32g carb, 122g pro, 62g fat. After watching your video I realized that my potassium must be low because I don't eat greens or basically any vegetable at all so I'm going to put lots and lots of frozen spinach into my morning protein shake and nighttime protein shake to see if that gets me out of this rut. I have one meal of four that I can cancel each day to use those calories towards my protein shakes. Now I will have three meals per day and my protein will drop to 95g instead of 122g.

Better, I let go of the Intermittent fasting, low carb and carb cycling and just ate healthy with light exercise instead of intense training and my body broke out the plateau, I can't say I won't go back to IF, CC, HIIT but my body appeared to need a break. So know I know to give my body a 3 month on and off break of all the intense weight loss and it makes a world of difference, Thanks

To sum up my thoughts, I ultimately feel that a ketogenic approach is optimal for people that are overweight. However, if you are already lean, and excerise regularly, it's not advised considering the body is already fighting you to release the last bit of stored body fat, especially if you goal is to maintain muscle mass. You can eat fat, but people almost always eat way to many of the non healthy fats to make up for the calories needed. The only thing I disagree on is the non-use of fruit and grains with high fiber to slow the release of sugar. I feel just as satiated on whole food carb sources as I did in ketosis with healthy fat sources.
@MandeepPanesarkenya
@MandeepPanesarkenya 8 жыл бұрын
I guess though, this is aimed at people who have metabolic issues. In a person with a optimal functioning metabolism, ketosis happens naturally whenever glucose stores are depleted. this is very normal. If you are in great shape and your metabolism is functioning very well, then you wont notice much of a difference, perhaps. when you eat a lot of carbs, you store any excess that cant be stored in your liver etc as fat. when your intake is too low, then your body uses up some of those reserves because you dont have elevated insulin levels. Now for the people consuming unhealthy fats like excess omega-6 sourced fatty foods and trans fats, well, no one is asking them to consume those. Most people are clear about only consuming healthy fats (yes this includes butter and other animal sourced saturated fats, and coconut etc). No one is asking anyone to count calories either. on these diets, it is about eating until you are satiated and being careful not to consume more than minimal carbs and not too much protein. You can consume a lot of calories from fat, but allcalories arent equal because your body utilises them differently. Now the argument about fruit and whole grains vs fat. Well, not if you have insulin resistance, you want to heal your body first. that's why you consume healthy fat instead. healthy fat will always trump grains in that regard. Try and get your hands on true wholegrains, i dare ya. Bet you'd find it very difficult. The counter argument here is that we do not consume enough healthy fat in our diets. we are fat deficient then if that is the case. this can have serious health repercussions also. we've been convinced to cut off eating fat in place of carbs and this experiment is yielding interesting results. think diabetes, heart disease etc. But consider that a large proportion of people do not fit into this category. They suffer from metabolic syndrome and pre-diabetes/insulin resistance etc. Take the "adrenal body type" person. Until cortisol and insulin resistance is dealt with, they are heading for problems. I argue that the most straight forward and linear way to deal with insulin resistance is to deal with elevated insulin levels. Insulin levels from carb and protein consumption has been taken into account in this video . therefore the inference is that by reducing ( as far as possible) carbohydrate consumption and limiting protein consumption, insulin resistance can eventually be reversed. this is supported by many studies in-situ on the carb side of things. Not feeling satiated and being hungry all the time is not great and shuts down the metabolism. that's once reason you might want to eat more healthy fat when trying to fix metabolic issues and keep you satiated. This is about solving weight loss and the inherent issues that cause it.

Dr. Berg, you mentioned whey concentrate being extremely high on the insulin index. Can you tell me where collagen is comparatively? I take about a TBSP of collagen each day blended in my tea. Thanks!!!

It's interesting how much I am learning from your weight loss videos, Dr. Berg, even though I don't need to lose weight. I get a mild form of insulin resistance, though, which is really scary in my case because I'm built well, so I don't have the weight gain to tip me off. If I hadn't watched your weight loss videos I would not have figured out that I have insulin resistance.

if you like lean meat, eat some butter with it ;) im definitely implementing your advice and trying low carb, i always thought it was just calories in / calories out, but havent been losing fat, even though ive been working out intense, im probably insulin resistent even though im not really that fat, people tell me im skinny, i packed on some muscle this past year , but before that i really used to eat so much junk food , basically just like you dr. berg, i lived on junk food, ive improved my body composition in terms of gaining some muscle over this past year, but pretty sure that my fruits and the oatmeal and maple syrup i eat pretty much everyday, together with rice later on and almost no greens except broccoli or sth from time to time, pretty sure those carbs kept me insulin resistant so far, definitely gonna try your advice for at LEAST 1 year, fact is im on a water / herbal tea fast right now because i just felt like cleaning my body, btw you should read up on Dr Jason Fung, he discovered the process of autophagy recently and got the nobel prize for it in physiology and medicine or whatever if ur interested, like u say IF already triggers this as well, but longer fasts can be beneficial in my eyes as well, especially to kickstart ketosis in my eyes, at least i hope it works, ill start my new keto lifestyle immediately after ending my fast. hoping to have great results in the future.

Dr Berg, I enjoy all your videos. I lost 40 lbs on the Atkins diet along with cardio exercises and weight training. I started taking an antidepressant and in the next year, I slowly gained 16 pounds no matter how much I exercised and continued to eat the Atkins Diet. I found out that my cholesterol doubled while on the antidepressant but my HDL's increased to the 60's and triglycerides were low showing the effects of my exercise and diet. My cholesterol not only doubled but also my thyroid level increased. I quit the meds immediately and now in the last month, I continue to eat healthy and do cardio kickboxing and continue the Atkins diet. You mentioned that high protein diets can back fire on you by the creation of guanidine from the high protein diet. Can you explain the process again and how it can continue to keep me from losing the fat. How is it keeping me from losing and how can i break this plateau? I started apple cider vinegar last week. Can this help me break this rut I am in during my weight loss regimen?

Thank you Dr. Berg for this informative lecture. Many low carb adherents encounter plateaus, and get frustrated because they think that low carb is all that is necessary to bring down weight. For many people, this is not the case. This presentation is a must see for those people.

I agree. I have been doing LCHF now for about 3 months. I have lost about 45 or so pounds in those three months. I consume about 2000 calories a day +/- 200 and over 70% is Fat and less than 5% is carbs. And the carbs I DO eat are all from LG Veg. Broccoli, cauliflower, and Avocado. I eat less than 30 grams of carbs per day. And have not violated that rule in 3 months. I attribute the weight loss to LCHF AND IF. For IF a fast 16 to 18 hours a day. I consume all of my calories in a 6 to 8 hour window. And If I accidentally miss my second meal I don't eat later. I just wait till the next day. And at least once every two weeks I do a 48+ hour fast to keep homeostasis in check as well as drive down any accrued Insulin level. I have hit my first plateau. And even then its only a minor one. My weight loss has slowed to 1.5 lbs a week. I lost 16 pounds in my first week of LCHF. Mostly water weight then. But now the fat is going. I am actually fitting clothes I have not worn in over 2 years. And I fit in a booth without my belly touching the table. Been years since I could say that also.

***** its a long slow journey back to health. I take it 1 minute at a time. When I started this journey I had made it to 417 pounds and didn't even KNOW it. I just kept going through life like I was all good. I never noticed that I was expanding my belt. I never noticed the booths at fast food places shrinking. I never noticed that I was out of breath more and more every week. Or how hard my heart was pounding from walking too and from my car. That all changed one day when I had to escort a couple police officers 200 yards from my office to a different building and then back. I left my building with the cops in tow. I made it about 100 yards and I was already winded. FROM WALKING!!!!!! I still had another 100 yards to take them. By the time we got there, I was hurting. Gasping for breath almost. GUSHING sweat from my forehead, Heart pounding. Then I had to bring them BACK. THAT was when the real trouble started. And I knew something had to change. I made it half way back and I actually had to STOP and support myself on a fence post to let my heart slow down. I was 417 pounds of chewed steak that someone spit on the ground at that point. That was about 6 months ago. I didn't find LCHF till about 3 months ago. By the time I started LCHF/KETO I had already gone from 417 to 385. And I was damn near KILLING myself in the gym. Eating 3000 calories a day, walking or biking for 30 minutes then Lifting HARD!!!! I was putting up over 350 on the bench, and leg pressing over a thousand. And the weight was coming off SLOW. Then I started to burn out. But That's when I found KETO. It saved my life. I still walk 3 days a week about. And I go for 30 minutes to an hour. Or ill bike on the recumbent. But other than that, I just eat and sit on my ass and shrink. Im down to 343 now. And all I do is walk, ride and eat. No lifting. I don't mind losing mass. Im 42 and don't need to be a meathead anymore. I just want to wear 38's again. I want to be able to ride a bike and NOT exceed its weight limit. I want to be AVERAGE for a change. I no longer have to be "That guy with the HUGE ARMS". That's what they called me in my gym 8 years ago. 22.5 inch Upper arms. SOLID Muscle.(Im a really big guy in person.) But like I said, I just want to be average now. Like everyone else.

***** Check it out Drake. I JUST passed 72 hours fasted at 2PM central time. Since Last Friday to this moment I have lost 6.5 pounds. The power of Fasting combined with LCHF is just mind blowing. I will break the fast most likely tomorrow at 0800. Or I may take it to the full five days. Have not decided. Considering my BMR is about 3500 calories a day, that means while I am fasting I am burning a pound a day. I wont be doing these long fasts often. Just to break plateaus and homeostasis.
