Any advice for us curlies who have to tie up their hair every day for work? I can't do gentle styles as it's a safety issue, I work with aggressive clients who like to *grab* hair, so I basically spend five days a week with my hair scraped into a tight bun. I'm trying to embrace my natural hair, but it's a lot of work to style it curly for the sake of one or two days, only to then ruin all that effort by shoving it into a tight bun for the rest of the week.

Hi Mel as someone with eczema on the scalp, as well as dry hair - I can get a lot of itchiness and dryness. Instead of buying a fancy scalp scrub I use half and half fragrance free conditioner and table sugar combo to exfoliate prior to shampooing. I do it once every two weeks. The sugar melts in the wet hair and it rinses out easily, but not before giving me a gentle scalp scrub. Sugar is in of itself a humectant which is moisturising to the scalp, the conditioner also gives slip and the shampoo rinses away any residue. i condition as normal afterwards. I do use a scalp moisturiser in between washing to stop any flaking/itching and irritation. For those who want a more intense exfoliation then a premade scrub may be the way to go, but this is enough for what is fairly delicate skin on my eczema prone scalp. I use a clarifying shampoo once a month, for any buildup on my hair itself and obviously deep condition afterwards. Best wishes.
@jesspavlichenko57453 жыл бұрын
I typically use castor oil as a pre-poo. Do you think I would be able to add the sugar to that?
@lorainemcgillivray773 жыл бұрын
@@jesspavlichenko5745 Maybe mix some up just before washing, having already had the oil in as a pre poo. I think you need the water to melt the sugar, but mixing it with an oil to apply should be ok. I haven't tried it that way, but we use sugar in oil scrubs on the body - so why not? You can let me know if it works. I like the conditioner as it gives me slip when rinsing, but the oil should be fine. As long as you're shampooing it out, then it will dissolve with the warm water anyway and work fine. Conditioner has an oil and water mix and my scalp is both dry and dehydrated - that's my reasoning behind the conditioner use. i hope that helps.x
@arkikali56323 жыл бұрын
@@jesspavlichenko5745 Probably? You can mix sugar with an oil or even Vaseline and use it as a lip scrub (works great for winter chapping!) or you can take a cleansing oil for your face and mix it with sugar for a facial exfoliant, so I don't know why you couldn't use the castor oil mixed with sugar.

Mel I'm having such a hard time maintaining my hair elasticity. My crown area is so fluffy and light and frizzy and breaks constantly. I've tried all sorts n followed your methods olaplex etc but my crown area gets stretched out super quick...I'm so exhausted.
@ManesByMell3 жыл бұрын
Hey lovely, I’m so sorry to hear of your struggles. The crown area is a big pain for many, and the hair is commonly a different texture there because of the growth patterns and direction it comes out of the scalp. To improve elasticity, I would make sure the hair is thoroughly conditioned. Make sure there’s no buildup and try to focus on moisturizing it to prevent breakage, continue to use your Olaplex and to hold the style apply a stronger hold gel while the hair is wet. I recommend checking out the Adwoa beauty moisturizing gel I reviewed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3u3dZafebCsnsU & also consider cutting and layering that area a little shorter to help!

I’ve found that using products with the preservative called methylchloroisothiazolinone/Methylisionthiazolinones caused my scalp to flake and itch. When I moved to a rural area where well water was all we had to us my symptoms seemed to improve. I attributed this to the lack of chlorine treatment in the water. However, when I would go to town to see my stylist of 20yrs my scalp would be irritated with the usual symptoms for a few weeks after. In recent weeks I changed my shampoo and conditioner products and it was back in full force. Doing some research I found a list of ingredients that are common irritants. I compared this list to my new products and low and behold there was that methyl-blah-blah stuff. I chucked those products in the bin and found products with out it and nexus’ scalp scrub and the issue has appeared to resolve. I let my stylist know of my scalps rejection of this product and we found a product in her line up wo it for my future appointments. Whew!

Those flakes are most likely the product buildup, not your scalp skin! You would do well using the cleansing oil 🥰
