For all these "woods are too small" and "birdsmouth should be at bottom" comments, it's 3 rows of tiles ffs. Flashing was fine and providing the rafters are joined at the fascia end with 12 gauge or above, it's plenty. It's a very good job sir. Fall on guttering is steep but hey you could fix that easily if you were so bothered. Haters gonna hate.

The first thing i noticed, should there be a flashing between the brick and wood? And shouldnt the wood against brick/concrete be treated?

@andyfielding2060
@andyfielding2060 5 жыл бұрын
@@Andy-px1mj So to start, ridge board is too small and rafters should be flat against it for the complete depth of plumb cut and not birdsmouthed over it because it is too small. Also rafter should be sitting on a wall plate at bottom and birdsmouthed. The lead work is shocking. the guttering has too much fall and only needed to be marginally out of level. the down pipe from above should not run into the new gutter like that and will probably shoot over in heavy rain. never mind the fact that he left all the old timbers in there instead of replacing with new? you did ask.
@redrobredrob
@redrobredrob 4 жыл бұрын
Oh come on AndyFielding.... You missed a load.....he had a tape measure and some insulation covering up, what must have been huge gaps in the bird mouths. The lead work was dressed with a pick axe, and on and on and on...........I’m trying hard to think of something he actually got right!

Where do I start?? Notched around wall trimmer plate, bit of a pterodactyl mouth instead of the common birds, which is, as previously mentioned, at the wrong end. What are the rafters actually sitting on?? It's a sliding bevel not a sliding ruler.450mm centres? 400 please. And finally, the biggy, cavity tray... tut tut tut. Now for the positives...Compliments on your sliding bevel being so clean and well, brand new looking. And your timber choice,,, lovely straight clean lengths. Please don't do any more roofs.

As it's a load bearing wall yes you will mate. He will need to calculate the weight. However before starting any work you need structure engineer to do his calculations. You can then send a copy to building control. (Mate may want to save money, but isn't worth the prison time, gross negligence never ends well) Building inspector needs to see padstones , rsj requirements, fire proofing requirements... Double plaster board.. etc. Hope this helps

Great video. I really appreciate that you're trying to help people learn how to do roofs. However. If you're going to teach. You have to teach by the book. This video contains several errors that do not comply with industry standards. Timbers. Are always 400 or 600 centres. Whether its joisting. Partition walls or roofing. Its the same. The birds mouth shouldn't remove more than 1/3 the width of the timber due to the reduced structural integrity. It becomes a weaker joint. The birds mouth is always at the joint of the fascier and soffit. (At the bottom). Your intended audience are diy'ers and you didn't give any detail on the waterproofing aspect of the roof. The vapour barrier. The positioning of the tiles. How to dress the edges of the roof with the lead work. You also clearly showed no regard for the health and safety at work that would relate to the undertaking of a project like this. Which given that your audience are not professionals and wouldnt know better. Is irresponsible. If a DIY'er watches this video. I would encourage them to take nothing from it. They will not achieve a high standard finish from following this and their risk of injury is high. Please consider all these points when making future videos. Let's all be one level of professional.

Fits its purpose, but not so elegant with unmatched aesthetics. The support structure is basically very minimal and something to hide. The lead is terribly maltreated and unsightly. The triangular white ends provide too much contrast, are unmatched and should be black. The system as 3:27 without right support is good enough as the support does not balance the door. The plastic gutter support would age and one doubts if they hold on a windy day. A few coats of wood preservative would have protected the wood from dew and moisture. All work should be a thing of beauty, and not just utility.

Personally I hate pan tiles on low level small pitched roofs. Looks bulky and messy. Customers choice though. I prefer plain tiles in the same colour as the main roof. Looks much neater. And I agree with a comment below, the light has been reduced with zero gain. The extended canopy serves no purpose. Workmanship wise, I'm afraid it leaves alot to be desired. The lead looks like it's been dressed using a hammer. Hollow soffit is just that, soffit and shouldn't be used for cladding. The fascia should have continued around the side and proper cladding board fitted. The fall on the gutter is ridiculous. Edit. Just looked at some of your other vids. You are obviously a decent brickie having a go at other 'stuff'.
