Rich, that was one of the most interesting vid's you have done in, (to me) a long time. That is not to say the rest were not of interest to me, it's just that you hit bang on centre of the bulls eye for me, with this one. Took me back 42 yrs, to when I was a trainee tech. I always wondered how my S3 gearbox had a different final drive for 5th and 6th and now it makes sense! I've always wanted to put the diesel final drive in to drop the cruising RPM in 5th and 6th, but the cost for doing so outweighs the fuel saving.

For all the people. A bearing can generally be heated to 250f safely, and not by torch. Oven or oil-bath. The thermal expansion for most bearings is .001" per inch diameter per 100 degree F. So a 1.002" shaft @ 68f and a bearing that is 1" will need to be 268f to JUST slide on. That's why you see people putting the shaft in the freezer. They make temp sticks that are basically temperature specific crayons that will not make a mark until the temp is reached. Take care of your bearings ya'll :)

is it possible to get a dogbox style powerglide for EV conversion? one gear for torque and one gear for overdrive plus a reverse without needing to do it electrically. I love the idea of a simple way to do an ev conversion is just to use a manual transmission but it seems weird to have six gears and also you wear out the synchro's

Funny, for my 3D printing hobby I have replaced a couple of spur gears with helical alternatives because it's just a straight up upgrade with no extra cost. Here the opposite is done probably because the cost to machine an upgraded helical gear is too much even for race car budgets.

Yeah, boost was too high and snapped a ring. Which is why we use LS engines. I will have another one it it by the end of the week

I noticed from the beginning of your shows way back and then it was more pronounced like the the words video system and the skins colors and it's not a ripoff i don't think as the skins might not have any copyright . You can't measure backlash on an arm like that (31:15).. The further out you are on that arm, the more it exaggerates your backlash measurement. I would think that you would want to be directly on a flange bolt to measure backlash there. Not sure why he did it that way.. and I wish he would have explained his reasoning

really weird that the IRS hub bearings on the 1994 thunderbird are as big as the axle bearings on the ford 9 inch... and the old 400'000km 4.6 broke them as if it had 516lbft of stall torque. floater AAM1150 with 16 inch rotors... why do i have to do these things just to buy groceries? 100lbft at 1200rpm spins one tire for 6 feet then the thing locks up to both wheels... of all things, a 2850rpm stall converter over the 1200-1700 stall would do a lot more then a S475. ... dog box with a torque converter?

I never understood the reason for being so picky about the gear surfaces.. With bearings and races-- I fully understand.. the synchro bevel on the gears-- oK, I get that too.. but I don't see how a little scoring on the gear tooth itself is a problem at all. I've seen diffs on old fords that were crazy pitted from having sand inside the diff and was rusted and worn.. Absolutely cratered and pitted like the surface of the moon on many of the gear surfaces.. I replaced the bad bearing that had exploded and through it all back together and put almost 200k more miles on that truck. It barely even made any noise.. It was subtle.. I understand that he wants a new race transmission, so spare no expense. But there are things that can handle wear and keep going if you're on a budget and doing this stuff yourself.. A little noise in that ring gear is nothing compared to how loud those straight cut gears are going to be.

I highly recommend you wear a Grande Seiko Spring drive because not only is it a electro mechanical movement, it’s arguably one the most accurate watch’s in the world, you’d be well suited to the titanium diver, that’s what I wear daily. Here is info en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_Drive
