Nice. I am 52 and started to lift about 2 years ago after 20 years of Ironman racing. Two years ago while I was still good at endurance sports I could not walk down the stair without knee pain. It was time to make some adjustments. While I was very fit, I was not healthy. I stopped triathlons cold turkey. Started to lift. Almost immediately I felt 15 years younger. Now that I have build some strength and mobility I am introducing jogging back into my life. No plans to race but only to regain some of that cardio engine. Lifting 3 times a week, jogging 3 times a week and a day of whatever exercise I feel like does the trick. Thanks for sharing some good information.
@nukenabber7228 Жыл бұрын
By heavy weight training you get more testosteron in your system, that is why you feel much better. Stop that endurance training no use at all. Do interval short stints, much more return on investment.
@FitAfter50 Жыл бұрын
@@nukenabber7228 there is no reason why both cannot be done. As we get older focus on strength and cardio. Being strong and not being able to jog or briskly walk 2-3 miles without being out of breath is pretty much as useless as being able to run a 40 minute 10k but not being able to carry more than 2 groceries bags at a time.

@@FitAfter50I am 52 and a distance inline speed skater. Inline skating has almost no wear and tear on your body. I can easily skate 20-30 miles, that is leg day and a great workout. Lots of tutorials on YT how to do it right. Best to wear full protection - Even though I'm doing it forever I do because of the high speeds. That can really compliment upper body workouts!
@FitAfter50 Жыл бұрын
@@alb12345672 that's is pretty cool and a rare sport. I have seen endurance skaters when I was tri training, those guys were flying! Winter is pretty much here. I will stick to the indoor bike for a bit and if there is snow, cross country skiing would be fun. Snow shoveling maybe. I just refuse to purchase a snow blower 🙂

Here's a trick I've used for years to help me keep symmetrical. When working bis, tris or forearms individually, I always do my dominate side first. This has a phycological effect on me, because it raises the bar for my non-dominate side performance. If I do my non-dominate hand first, the goal is too low for reps. Thanks for this.

I have always performed dumbell curls buy starting and finishing the movement with my arms by my sides. Keeping palms up and resting on thigh at bottom for curls makes a massive difference. Very impressed with this simple tweek to add time under tension and take the shoulder out of it when I tried it tonight. Great superset with hammer curls to thigh. Brutal finishier after pull ups. Great video Paul.

Hi Paul, thanks for posting great informative and motivational exercise content. I am really appreciating these videos longer in length, and that go in-depth and step by step in the basic exercises - and the main pitfalls. You go for efficiency and effectiveness. The books and magazines I have, seldom hit the level and content you publish. So as 50+ doing regular exercises, thank you for the great stuff you contribute. Greetings from 🇳🇱

Paul I really Appreciate this video but I think I've already hurt my shoulders doing curls with what I thought was the proper form until I watched your instruction. Maybe it's a tendon tear. I've always had great difficulty in building any kind of strength and muscularity but started taking the creatine/HMB product you suggested to see what happens. I've never been able to feel a pump after an exercise set. Is getting that pump important ? Anyway, I have to say again that you look incredible. Hard to believe that one could maintain your level of physical perfection into his 50's. The size of your bicep peaks is astonishing. You look like you have rock bulging from under your skin ! I know genetics has to play a role in part but at the same time you obviously work very hard at it as the videos show.

Someone told me that there is no program for 60+ years and that I should concentrate on cardio? What is your opinion about this. I love to hear from you please and keep up the great work educating us. Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱.
@WideAwakeHuman Жыл бұрын
That’s a load of crap that someone told you - cardio is great but resistance exercise is a must. And there’s nothing special about being 60 vs 30 other then you might need to use less weight and take more time to recover. Just pick a basic plan with push-ups/crunches/air squats and some sort of row movement and do those for a few months and see where ur at.

Paul, great video! I was looking through your video library trying to find content as to sets, reps, and days in the week you do arms. Do you have push/pull days or focus on body parts like; chest/back, biceps/triceps/shoulders and then legs. As an older lifter with a goal to have a well rounded physic, it makes sense to copy/follow what is working for older guys that have great bodies. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
