How to change serpentine belts and water pump on a Mercedes CLK350

Hey everyone, here's a quick video to help you diagnose squeaking and grinding noises coming from the engine, and a how-to on changing a belt tensioner, a serpentine belt and a water pump. This shouldn't take longer than an hour and you can save some serious money doing it yourself.

Very useful video…thanks. Did u have to remove the fan/radiator to access the belt? I don’t seem to have as much room to work as u do in the video.

Thanks! No you shouldn't have to with the m272 engine. A breaker bar and a socket is all you need really. Not sure about the larger engines

Hello Adam, I have a quick question. The car is a 1999 Mercedes Benz CLK 430. I had the water pump replaced, but now I need to know all the sensors that need to be reconnected to finish the install of the water pump area. So far, I reconnected the coolant temperature sensor, the MAP sensor in the water pump area. There are other sensors in the water pump area but i don't know what they are and their sensor function. Help me to identify those other sensors above the water pump on my clk 430.

Hi Dayshawn, unfortunately I'm not that familiar with the first generation clk. You could try googling for your situation and adding the word "wis" (that's mercedes' own workshop information system, pretty much a service manual) to see if you're missing any connections and where those would go.

Mr. Adam, I found your video and I was looking for a tutorial on replacing the serpentine belt. You mentioned it, but didn’t have a part for it. Maybe upload a belt replacing video?

After loosening the belt tensioner it really is simple, that's why I didn't spend too much time on it. If you need help with what goes where there's a belt diagram at 1:09. Once the belt is on just remove the pin from the tensioner and you are done.

Adam Dezsi I was really looking for a step by step to follow. Because this is my 1st time dealing with anything under my hood honestly. But the video did educate me on the location of many parts and now I can identify multiple parts with confidence.

Adam Dezsi the only thing that was stopping me from removing my original belt is the loosening of the tension pulley. I don’t have a 17 mm Ratchet or wrench whichever is needed.
