I have found more people are likely to come to reasonably terms when approaching a softer two way present your case. When you call them out on anything people tend to build a wall to defend not only their opinions, but their honor as well and this can lead to a very bias outlook on their part, because they are no longer trying to make a good argument, but rather trying to defend their honor and they mistake trying to defend themselves with trying to come to terms with the debate. I have caught myself building irrational walls to an argument merely because I was insulted and I can even notice my logical reasoning, being replaced with emotional defense. For people un-familiar with their own psychology, this can be nearly impossible to spot in your own thinking. Like trying to spot your own logical fallacies. Another thing is that, even if you know they're wrong and you can even predict what the next fallacious thing they are going to say is, you still have to listen like you might learn something new, even if you know you wont. Being honestly engaged in the conversation shows people that you are taking note of their points and listening as oppose to calling them out before they even finish the sentence. That never ends well as that wall of defense will immediately come up. There is one problem that this approach can have however and that's where your the one whos wrong and your interlockuter is in fact right. When you put all factors on the table, no amount of technique of approach is going to make an irrational argument become rational. Unless in the case where the person who's right doesn't understand their position well enough and they don't know why they're right, they just guessed lucky and the irrational argument seems more persuasive to them. Here all the factors are not on the table of course. This is an example of how a normal person can be persuaded by a flat earther and change their mind. At some point in their life they happened to land on the right answer or were brought up believing something true, but never had good enough information about it to begin with and a false argument in that case can appear to seem more reasonable that whats actually true that's backed up by better information that was never addressed.

Trump won because Hilary was garbage, the media damaged her while she was going against Bernie and when it became mainstream that Bernie was cheated she somewhat split the party and hurt the Bernie supporters that could have gave her the W. He also won because identity politics is king and that killed off every serious candidate. I would also call that the electoral college played a role but it's role was minor. The US isn't a democracy, it's a representative republic so we all went into this knowing how it works and Obama won against the system twice so i can't blame the EC too much. Trump ran against what could be considered some of the easiest competition he could have had in regard to running for president.

The problem with 3 is that it’s a shallow type of convincing strategy, it also happens with salesmen, the customer thinks about their decision more and then regrets it. It will happen in conversation too

On Number 4: It is very wise to let the other person talk and to let them know you respect their opinions. BUT, this is followed up by "never interrupt" and "Encourage them (to talk more)." I have talked to my fair share of people and when you meet someone who is good with discussion and debate, these are not a very good idea. People who are good at discussion could talk for hours, and can talk circles around you. Encouraging them to talk more is a bad idea since you are not putting your own thoughts into the equation and they could dismiss them before you ever brought them up. Some people are very aggressive with speaking and may not give you the chance to talk. How can you persuade someone when you never get the chance too? You can't. Instead of "Never Interrupt" try "Interrupt politely. Instead of "Encourage them" try "Letting them speak is a good idea, but establishing that your opinion has value is important." That one is just a little bit longer. Listening patiently is a good idea, so stick with that one. Just remember that peer to peer persuasion is discussion, not a stage performance!

Heres a better idea, dont be so egotistical that you think you should change someones mind. Just have a healthy discussion about both viewpoints and come to a consensus on what each other believes. The idea that people should go around changing other people is what is wrong with todays society. "When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. The best is actually go for "no", don't avoid objections, understand what emotions they convey and figure out why they react with that emotion at that time instead of logically convincing people. Getting people to say yes often times backfires greatly. Read Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss. PS I also love when you cite your sources. When you don't it seems like you're just making up these thoughts in your head without research. I stopped watching when I noticed the lack of research for this video. Trying to convince my mom to move to a state with an ocean, I don’t like Colorado especially the ugly, small and smelly town we’re living in. If you know South Park, it actually is “The Exact Opposite of Hawaii”. I’m in Florida right now for vacation and I feel like I’m missing out on life. The beautiful beaches, the vegetation, the rain/thunder, the palm trees!! It’s all so beautiful, meanwhile Greeley is so gloomy and dry. Actually, If the point of a discussion is to change someones mind, you are doing something wrong. The purpose of a debate is to find the truth, not to win. So, the real goal is to behave in a way that maximizes the chance of a rational discussion.
