In this video I show you how to change the oil in an #E28 with the #M30 engine. This video shows you the oil drain and filter change in my 1984 #533i. The M30 came in several variants including an early 3.2 liter found in the 533i and later on in the 3.4/3.5 in the 535i and 535is. The motor was also found for a few years in the later E34 535i. #bmwclassic

It's interesting that in Malaysia, we got the E28 with the same US-spec bumpers as you guys. Many owners have swapped them out for the Euro version items, but the E28 with the US-spec bumpers to me is always the car I first recognized as a BMW during my childhood.

I noticed you use 10w40 and also list the 20w 50 in the links. I’m located in the Bayarea of California and seasonal temps only drop mid 40s and can get to over 100 degrees in the worst summer weather. Searching online a lot of people with the M30b34 use 20w 50. Do you switch 10w 40 winter and 20w 50 summer? Thanks great tutorial!

Thanks James. I am using 10w40 all year round. Sadly I only put 3-400 miles a year on this car, if that. For California Summer temps, yes the 20w50 is recommended by many for these older engines. They don't have the same fine tolerances like the newer models.

24+2 ft lbs for oil pan drain 17mm bolt 22+2 ft lbs for oil filter housing bolt

am i blind or was old oil black in color...its not a diesel :D it should be brown or gold, not black.

xAsmir it is a dark grey! It has the mos2 additive mixed in the oil which gives it this color. Like the Liqui moly ceratec.

@@asmircar1 oh haha gotcha. Yeah the color just didn't get picked up on camera with the low light. There's only 5-600 miles on this oil change (last change done a year ago).
