Today almost all BERNINA sewing machine models use the horizontal thread spool mount. How to use correct endcap to hold that spool in place I will show you in this video

Omg..I have been using my caps around the wrong way for as long as when I brought my Bernina 22 years ago 😱...and I never knew what the sponge cap was for. A very informative tutorial even if it’s been around for 5years....ya never stop learning no matter how old ya are 😂

Actually he doesn't say anything about WHAT the sponge cap is useful for. Also he doesn't say whether you should use it with ANY spool or only / especially for these cone spools.

@@yvasquez2449 Bernina gives a different explanation on how to choose these. And they never put them on the other way rond as in this video. I'm a bit confused about what is correct. Also I'm not sure whether it is important whether the thread gets pulled clockwise or anti-clockwise.

I was told by the Bernina Educator that the end caps should be turned the other way around. They were designed to fit that way so that they don’t become loose over time. The same way as shown when using the cone thread....
@disdonc60122 жыл бұрын
I think this cannot be true. The hole inside the cap isn't shaped in any kind of way, I would say. But what I've seen is: if I put the cap on like you say (smaller part on the outside) it will still not keep the thread from getting caught on an uneven spool when the amount of thread on the spool decreases. All the good "Gütermann" spooles have this special spool end on this side unfortunately, where you can kind of fix the thread for storing the spool more neatly so that the thread won't spool off on its own.

Wow,I wouldn't have thought of using the embroidery spools on my machine thought they would be just for overlockers. Great well explained videos would love to see some videos on older bernina machines, I have a bernina virtuosa 153 I bought new and just bought a bernina bernette 334 which is quite hard to thread, would love any help with this. Videos I have watched don't show clearly enough the tricky bit inside the machine I am in Australia

Thank you so much for your kind help, I am having problems with my bobbin tention in my Bernina 880, I am going to have a look at the flat spring in the bobbin case after watching your vidéo. Thanks thanks
@gregorsidler39627 жыл бұрын
chantalida53 Remember if you put the bobbin into the case on your 880 and without threading the tension, you should have no tension at all pulling on the thread. If you do, that is a sign that the flat spring is not inserted correctly. If for some reason you have a hard time inserting the spring, leave it out! you do less harm leaving it out then having it in wrong!!
@chantalida537 жыл бұрын
I thank you very much, with the help of your videos, I fixed all the problems I had, my tension is now ok. I even discovered things I was doing the wrong way. Thank you again ,

Terrific explanation! The manufacturer videos and even the store videos where I purchased my Bernina assume one knows exactly how to use endcaps (it says- "use correct end cap) but with no explanation of what a correct endcap is. How is a new owner supposed to know what they don't know? Thank you for clarifying the process!
@gregorsidler39622 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It's the little things that have a great influence on how the final tension will look like!

I have another question. With most Bernina machines there is another option to put the spool on. It's the one that you can flip up from behind. It's actually made to be able to wind a bobbin without having to remove your working spool. In Switzerland I got the answer that the quality of sewing will be the same if I use this optional spool holder. And here I won't need any kind of endcap. So I wanted to ask whether this information was correct or if it still would be better to use the spool holder shown in this video?
@stowesuz9 жыл бұрын
Why were the first end caps rounded end out and the last one the other way with the round end facing the thread spool? Thanks for the videos!
@berninatampa71149 жыл бұрын
theonlysuz If on the green cone thread you would turn then endcap around the last part of the thread would get covered up and would not wind correct off the spool.

Do you use the foam bit for every time that you put a thread on please
@gregorsidler39625 жыл бұрын
Hazel you do not have to use that foam bit. You can, but don't have too.
@disdonc6012 Жыл бұрын
@@gregorsidler3962 Unfortunately no one ever tells about WHAT exactly this foam piece really does.

Another mistake: the black is stacked and should ne pulled from the side.
@karenscribner70313 жыл бұрын
A mistake here: thread is not to be pulled from the side on cross-wound thread.
@lindastevens83923 жыл бұрын
I wondered about that..... I use one of Superior Threads' thread holder for my cross-wound cones for that reason. Nevertheless, I never knew how to use the endcaps and the spongy thingy. I learned that flat wound spools are placed vertically on the machine and cross-wounds were placed horizontally. The reason you can use the thread holder with the cones is that the they are usually cross wound and a cross wound thread pulls off the cone just as if it were placed horizontally on the built-in machine spool spindle.
@karenscribner70313 жыл бұрын
@@lindastevens8392 Actually horizontal and vertical should not be used. I have a thread holder which holds a stacked spool horizontally but it is pulled off straight to go through the thread guide. A vertical position cross-wound spool can be pulled up off the top if there is a thread guide above it. All of this matters because if your machine works great, thread never breaks and you sew and sew and sew, eventually the thread gets stressed because it is being twisted round and round.
