"Depression is the mind signaling to the body that it's not where it's supposed to be"

Some of us have been depressed for our whole life. It's called Dysthymia, and coupled with anhedonia, it becomes impossible to treat with CBT.

I've used every damn treatment approach. The thing that helped me most was somatic therapy. And acceptance of who I am. It ebbs and flows. I'm a melancholic; not a victim. Tho childhood trauma certainly imprints on our limbic system.

@@missannethrope8956 that is what I miss: content on how to live a good life as a chronic mental health patient. I think rule number one is to stay socially active (socially as in real life, not online) and not isolate yourself. But besides that? When it is part of your syndromes to be chaotic in all parts of life (sleep, food, exercise, housekeeping, self care, money management) and have been for decades now, talk of healthy diet and physical fitness for better mental health feels disheartening at times. Where I think: but I need to have better mental health to begin with, to be able to provide myself a clean and orderly home and plenty of good high quality sleep that is replenishing instead of waking up every morning with a heavy feeling like my brain was so busy processing stuff I did not get enough deep rest. Besides, as you said, that limbic system overrules several tips and tricks. Like running therapy does not work for me. And I really try, I even ran a half marathon this year.
