Here is a version of the magic knot that I could never get right until I learned this important tip which made all the difference. This works for any size and type of yarn soft or dry.

TOO funny! My grandma taught this join to me when I first learned in the early 1960's. And I have never seen anyond EVER do it on KZbin! lol. Thanks for this 're-teach' of what I think is also the strongest join of this type to use. Have a great weekend. Richard

Thank you! I am definitely going to try out this knot. I like to use the tiniest amount of Fray Check, I don't even think it is half drop because I don't let it drop, lol. Just to be certain a knot stays put. Especially if I am using slippery yarn.

Yay, success, eventually. First go I don't know what happened but it pulled apart. 🤔 Second attempt I accidently cut into the yarn when snipping off the excess threads. 😵‍💫Third go I got it.😁 I will keep practicing now so it gets into my old head! I really think this is much more simple to do than getting the threads, crossing them over the other blah blah. This I can do while sitting around at my craft group without needing a table or large lap, which I don't possess, haha. So practical. Thank you.

Hello and thank you for all the tips that you learn to us, I have a question which knot do you think is safer? Magic knot, the better way to do magic knot ( square knot) or the thumb knot? Thank you
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
Great question! I think this knot is phenomenal but because it’s fairly new for me I haven’t used it enough to say it’s the best yet. I think of the two versions, I’d like to continue trying the one wrap because that would be great to have a solid hold with less bulk. Until I know for sure, I feel the most reliable knot is the classic magic knot (where you make 2 knots with yarn parallel to eachother ) . I’ve never had this come undone over years of use, no matter yarn type or how close I cut to it. The least reliable is the square knot because I’ve learned from viewers that it comes undone with softer yarn when you cut too close to the knot 😑. Such a bummer. I still like it if I’m using cotton but if it’s a soft yarn , I keep the tails and just work over them to make sure it stays. So… #1 classic magic knot #2 thumb knot #3 square knot with cotton yarn Hope that helps 💕

Is this knot less visible or feel better to the touch than the good ol’ square knot I make? What is the advantage over the square knot? It looks more complicated to me.
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
From what I understand, it’s more reliable than the square knot, but if you’re not having any issues , then I don’t see any other advantages
@ruthwarner7771

This looks great but why do 2 loops when 1 will suffice? Is one loop not as strong? Surely it's less bulky?
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question, I’m not quite sure. I’m guessing it is more durable since you have the yarn secured with that extra wrap.

Thank you. Is this thumb wrap method less bulky than a fisherman's knot?
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
To me it is … the two strands slide side by side to eachother and it looks less bumpy. Especially if you only do the one loop. I actually made a sample of both to compare and show in the video and now that you’re asking me , it just reminded me. Totally forgot to include that. 😖

@@PlayHookywithMe thank you so much. I will try it with both 1 and 2 loops and will see which one holds better for my slippery yarn. I think that's the biggest test of the practical use of knotting.
