You’re welcome, Dave! It’s a bit of a cheap and dirty tutorial as I would really like to teach better techniques, however, if you’ve only got a few colours then go for it!

Thanks so much! You will LOVE creating birds in pastels, it’s such a joy! You can get some beautiful soft focus on wings in flight really easily, too 😊

I wonder why you didn't color the chest entirely green first and then gone in with black and white or the eraser to create the contrast. Wouldn't that have been easier?

Hi, have just come across your channel and subscribed. I've been using coloured pencils but would really love to try the pastels and your tutorials look great. I've been on to Jacksons art supplies to order the pencils you list but they're coming up with different names.eg. 102 is cream not ivory. Light pink is beige red etc. They are faber castell pitt pastel pencils.Just want to check that I'm ordering the right thing as I do want to do wildlife/pets. Could you advise please, thanx

Hi Emily, Thank You for responding. Do you use any sprays on top of your art works.
@emilyrosewildlifeart-paste982011 ай бұрын
Hi, no I don’t actually because the pastelmat paper doesn’t require it 😊

Love you're work! I'm a coloured pencil artist but I want to try my hand at pastels, can you tell me what you use to 'seal' your artwork with please x
@justmemimi733821 күн бұрын
I’m not sure she uses anything. My understanding is,that setting sprays change the colours, so pastel artists don’t tend to use them. Store the images with glassine paper., and if framing, be sure to use a mount, to keep space between the artwork and the glass. I admire you being a colour pencil artist. It’s such a meticulous medium!

Great tutorial. Is there a reason you sharpen your pencils by knife rather than a sharpener?
@emilyrosewildlifeart-paste982028 күн бұрын
Thanks George, yes there is! :) By getting a nice, long nib, the naturally soft pastels remains sharper for much long, but also, I can use my pencil on the broad edge like a pastel chalk for underpaintings.

@ Thanks so much, Emily. Enjoy your videos immensely. Any chance of doing one on a songbirds sometime?
@emilyrosewildlifeart-paste982027 күн бұрын
@@georgewelch2366 No worries, always happy to spread the whittling sharpener method! I do have a few song bird tutorials but they're all in the membership for now I'm afraid. I will continue to pepper tutorials on my KZbin channel, in between smaller 'how to' videos but currently I haven't got a song bird on the list.

Would it be possible to combine both pastels and polychromos pencils ?.
@emilyrosewildlifeart-paste98206 ай бұрын
Sadly not, because pastels are chalk based but coloured pencils are wax or oil based so they won't mix together.

Packs of 12 are just for very basic drawing and colouring, IMO. I always say you should go with a set of 24, at a minimum, even if that's all OS purchases. 24 will usually give you a reasonable choice in colours, especially if just by a set. If you buy OS, then your choice is really up to you. But, if you can afford to do so, buy a bigger set!
@emilyrosewildlifeart-paste98205 ай бұрын
I agree! I have a lot of people only wanting to star with 12-15 pencils, which is understandable, but then they buy the sets and can't get started! When I began to create my own suggested set of 12, suddenly beginners could afford to start with pastel pencils...I wish the big brands would catch on!
