Actually somewhat of a long time subscriber here... and after a couple years, I have to say these videos are still great. Before, I used to just watch the videos and go like "damn, I wish I could do that," but now after years of art classes and messing around with digital art I can actually effectively use these xD. No more just gaping at the screen or trying and failing Thanks!

Drawing it really just like anything else in life, you need to put in the hours and effort to see results. Some people are naturally more artistic to start with but someone with less skill can easily surpass them but working on their abilities. Mark is a great drawer because he draws literally everyday.

Thanks once again for lending your talent to us, and if you wouldn't mind it too much, I would like to see how you draw scars/scarring/bruises/wounds and moles/beautyspots. I've been drawing since I was about twelve (I'm seventeen now) and my characters are pretty ok, I guess. My fault is probably being too lazy to do guidelines, so they tend to have a flattened look about them. Your work is pretty amazing Mark Crilley! @jammer33man you can add a nose bridge with shadows (if you want with colours) also cheekbones and so on can be done with light shadows you would have to decide where your light comes from and then draw the highlights in the hair and the shadows in the face dependingt from where your light comes it's hard in the beginning but drawing is a matter of practise - as everything else is too - and don't try to do a great work everytime just keep on filling the gaps in your notebooks and so on

Thanks for the videos. I love the ones you do that're on the more realistic end. I personally don't want to draw traditional manga or western comic style. I want to do something between the two. You say your stuff is to help beginners, but as having about an intermediate skill, I'm picking up subtle things you do that I would not have figured out on my own. Hey mark, I've been watching a couple of your videos lately and now that I'm trying to become a manga artist I've been looking for help on how to draw it. I've noticed that your videos don't really help someone on their own unless they are always drawing in profile. Which is what everyone does when teaching this. If you could focus more on how to create pictures from start to finish that would be GREAT. how to figure out where to position facial features when at an angle and lighting changes et

Crilley’s black prismacolor pencil is amazing. I can’t find them here but I bought a Mitsubishi and a Faber Castell black color pencil, both are nowhere near as black as Crilley’s prismacolor. I reckon the Mitsubishi and the Faber C. are comparable with a 4B pencil. His prismacolor is as black as charcoal! I have a 10B pencil, but even that pencil is not that dark.Oh well, for now I use a 0.7 black ink pen for the dark contours. When Crilley puts two dots on the paper, they look like two nice nostrils. When I put two dots on the paper, they look like….two dots! The girl on my drawing looks like an alien with those eyes so far apart and that small mouth. But when I compare the proportions with Crilley’s girl, it’s exactly the same! Practice, practice, practice! Thanks anyways Mark Crilley for another nice tutorial!

Love the tutorials. BTW, were you at A-kon in Dallas a couple of years back? I feel like we met before. My daughter and I try our hand at manga style drawings but this has really given us something to strive for. Our work is still so flat. Our work is better than it was but it can improve. Have any on backgrounds? I'll be here hitting replay often. BTW, used prismas at the A.I. for Interior Design, never dawned on me to use it like ink in manga. Thanks So Much. @Mark Crilley: Thank you so much for your helpful video's!! Really great way of learning how to draw manga :D One question that's bugging me and something I just can't figure out: is your hand resting on the paper or not while drawing? And: I just started so maybe that;s the problem but I always spin around my paper to draw and you don't... How to practice that? Are you standing? What position is the paper? TY :D
