Having a badly broken ankle and foot, I found that after two weeks in hospitalI had lost all my tummy muscles and could not get up from the couch. A low soft chair, bed or couch is much harder to get up from. Since then I have never used hands to get up from the toilet or couch. These exercises are so important. I am 87 and determined to keep active.

My PT has been working on this with me after I lost a lot of strength and balance from broken foot and also previous surgeries. Thanks for this as I am needing to improve my technique. It is very helpful to have this broken down into individual steps. I know how to do it but have a hard time following through and standing. Going to go practice it with these imdividual exercises. Thank you. I can do it using hands on chair but need to do it without them.

Great tips, Will! I found myself emulating my Dad, in his later years, which was rocking back and forth until you can stand! 😂 In trying these steps, I have to start further up, in the chair, as I am so short, and feet don't touch until I'm halfway forward. However, that works fine as I don't really have much of a problem with it. My problem, and not really a problem, everyone wants to help...walking, standing, getting off and on things like a boat. I appreciate it, but need to learn to help myself! I have given up my cane but still a bit unsteady on unfamiliar ground. Thanks again for so many helpful tips. I graduated from PT, but having a problem getting motivated to exercise without them! Bless you! ❤

I found this to be a great video. Kudos to you! I recently went through a spell where I lost a lot of my mobility and had to relearn how to get up. I basically did everything that you said, but the only thing that you didn’t say that I would like to know is when you have your feet on the floor how far apart should they be? I tried my feet in different positions and I haven’t really decided what is the best place for them to be. when I do the hinge, I always think of that little bird and the cup of water that dips it’s beak into the water. I don’t know what the thing is called, but I visualize that every time I get up. And sometimes I swing a little more aggressively forward to help the momentum to get my buttocks off the seat. I would really like to have a video of getting up and off the floor, I’ve had problems with that since I broke bones in my feet and never received any physiotherapy (Covid). I’m 72.

NOSE OVER TOES was the thing that made me subscribe. 😁 For several years I had more and more difficulty getting up out of a chair and one day I was scrolling on utube and there was a video of you (I don't remember the exact video) anyway you were explaining "nose over toes". I snorted, leaned forward and pushed up. Son of a gun! Don't get me wrong, it hurt like a son of a b*tch, but it the easiest time I've had in a very long time. I have been watching every video since that day, and I get the emails too. I'm doing much better. 👍 Edit ~ you don't waffle on, the more information you provide the easier it is to do the exercise correctly.

I have a question Will - I have seen you using 'nose over toes' a few times in other videos. Now, I have a painful knee sometimes and, it seems to me that getting up this way actually helps with the pain but I just want to check with you - Can you tell me please - Does this movement take some strain off the knees and, potentially help it to recover or, at least, minimise further damage to the knees? Many thanks as always Iain

I enjoy and appreciate your videos. Given your target audience, perhaps they could be shorter. I'm older, and time is of the essence lol. I always fast forward to the content itself, skipping a lot of talking. Also, I'm always afraid that someone is going to open that door and crash into you. P.S. aren't elderly people going to be falling on the floor, if they try to sit at the very edge of the chair?
