awesome how you have dissected this scenario so you can point out the details where should learners focus their attention to!!

Great video! I tried Apex corner for the first time last week, left turn and straight on went flawless, but the right turn was a night mare, cars almost slammed into me and everyone honked and I was quite upset as I had never really made any mistakes in my lessons like this, but my instructor said it just takes practice and looking at this video I realise that I took a gap like the first one, when other cars were stopped on the left so I should have waited just like in this video. Apex corner will be a focus this week, but my instructor said if I can book a busy test slot at 8am there is a good chance they won't make me go that way due to the traffic :D

Hi! I’m glad you found it useful! Practise makes perfect. You’ll get it. Beware early morning tests though. It would mean every junction you come to will be busy. That’s ok if you’re used to that. Just make sure you’re prepared, if you choose a peak time slot. Good luck!!

Amazing video. 🚀 In this roundabout you can start with second lane (A1N) as well, I think. The reason is that it can help you to leave by far left lane (without switching lanes). You ended up with the priority when you leave the roundabout (in filter lane).
@GetWheelDriving Жыл бұрын
Glad you like it! 😊No don’t do that as road markings don’t allow you to take that lane. If you want to end up in the left hand lane for exit it’s ok to change lanes as you’re passing the second exit.

I noticed that whilst waiting for a gap on the roundabout, your pupil was waiting with their right foot on the brake pedal. Would "handbrake on / foot off footbrake and poised over accelerator / left hand on handbrake ready to release it quickly" serve better in terms of readiness to take a gap? This is something I practice. Plus it guards against the car rolling back (and it's not always obviously that you might be on a slight up slope). For automatics, foot on footbrake whilst waiting for a gap is ok as you can start to creep forward just by easing pressure off the footbrake and letting the natural forward creep of an automatic take place.

Absolutely correct. It does indeed. This pupil has exceptional clutch control so for him it’s not so much of a problem. I do encourage the use of handbrake but I also think it’s a good idea to develop good pedal control even in tricky situations. My car also has an electric handbrake so doesn’t need to be released manually. It also has hill start assist enabled as standard. However having your foot poised over the accelerator is always a good idea. You make a very good point!

@@GetWheelDriving Thank You for your detailed reply. Btw, my comments were in no way meant as a critisism but purely for interesting dialog and to get your feedback as an experienced professional driving instructor. I passed my test 43 years ago (first time) and fully recognise that one never stops learning. I also love seeing the area in London where you film btw, I love the buildings!

It is always hard to read the tone in text 😝I didn’t take it as criticism! I hope I didn’t come across as defensive. 🙈You actually made a very good point. I would recommend using handbrake if using an analogue one, so to speak, or electric if you feel they need the right foot over the gas pedal… you’re right about we never stop learning. That goes for all of us. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Always welcome!

@@GetWheelDriving I also particularly liked your advice about not only checking to one's right for traffic coming round the roundabout but also to one's left / straight ahead to see if the space in front is actually clear enough for a complete emerge onto the roundabout without risk of being in the way or straddling lanes on the roundabout. I always try to practice this, which involves constantly scanning both right and left before any decision to emerge is made.

@@GetWheelDriving have you any for borehamwood test route roundabouts? Is it Stirling roundabout ??
@samina21822 жыл бұрын
Hi, Great video! I have a test in Hendon coming up in a few days and I’m so nervous about this roundabout! If I’m exiting for Central London (third exit), will I fail if I end in the middle lane before the exit? Or do I have to position myself on the left lane before exit?
@GetWheelDriving2 жыл бұрын
Hi Samina - as I answered on Instagram you can use the middle lane to exit. In fact all the videos I’ve done on the Apex demonstrate this. You’ll have no problem with that. Just be careful to use the funnel filter on exit properly if you have vehicles on your left. I hope that helps you!
