From my experience :(1) eat whole foods that's high in calories such as quinoa.(2) Eat whole food fats such as avocados, nuts, nut butters, and seeds.(3) Eat legumes such as beans, lentils, and peas. The combination of food that is high in calories and healthy fats makes a satisfying meal. For me brown rice is more fulling than white rice, WHOLE wheat bread and pastas are preferred. Look at each meal as an opportunity to add more nutrients to your plate. Add nuts and seeds to salads, avocado spread on toast, banana, nut butter, and plant based milk to oatmeal. Make meals satisfying and nutrient dense.

In my case …enough fats are extremely important, more than you think you need and in my case I NEED beet juice and molasses. Not sure why I’m not anemic medically

Yes idk if it’s everyone but I have to have a lot of calories or it doesn’t work Also mushrooms like reishi help me with energy and hot fire spices like cayenne so I don’t feel “cold” or tired

I've been vegan for over 8 years and I appreciate these reminders because I have a tendency to overindulge in the faux meats and cheeses and I need to get back to more whole foods. I certainly do feel better when I eat better 💚

I think also, with healthy foods you don't like is to prepare them in a different way. (and this is something I found that is REAL exciting about a vegan lifestyle) So for example, I don't like real tuna sandwiches, and I don't like whole chikpeas. But there was a recipe for a "no tuna sandwich" made out of mainly chikpeas, and I decided to try to make it to explore the different texture I knew I was going to get. (and the additional spices you get vs just a plain whole chikpea you get in salads). So, I put the chikpeas in the food processor along with the lettuce and spices, blended it, and made my sandwich regular--and it was fucking bomb. Same with a bbq jackfruit recipe; I didn't like jackfruit by itself, nor did I like that packaged jackfruit...but when I made it myself and followed a more bbq recipe similar to what you would follow with meat--again, bomb. This is something I've found to be very interesting with veganism, is the foods that you previously didn't like, you can re-make healthier and because it's something different (like chikpeas instead of real tuna) it will taste different but similar, and gives you a chance to like this version even if you didn't like another version. It's all about how you cook things, and what you'd want to replace it with.

Smoothies are a big help. Nuts, seeds, and dried fruit like mulberries and dates are also good. For me, mixing together rice and beans or lentils has helped me feel full. Also adding a nice heap of guacamole helps and makes it tastier.

My experiences is so different. When I was eating SAD I ate sooo much. I could and did eat like 3 sandwiches and a whole bag of chips. Now I have a hard time finishing my food I get so full so fast. Today I made rice, broccoli, onions, bell peppers, and bamboo shoots with added flavor (I cook one meal for three days) and I could not finish my serving for today. Its messing with my head like am I gettin enough, but everything im reading says your body knows what it needs. I want to eat those big salads and meals cuz I love veggies, but that might just come from my past eating habbits.

Eat whole foods in every food group and eat food that you liked before you went vegan! You won't feel the difference. I love the feeling of being satisfied and light after a meal vs stomach aches, fatigue, feeling kinda disgusting after eating. You nailed every point girls, love it

Im starving, despite eating everything recommended. Plenty of healthy fats. Plenty of calories, wholefoods. 2500 calories a day. I'm never full for long, my stomach hurts. Bloods are fine, portions are huge. Still always hungry.

Idea for future video: Tofu! When I get it at restaurants, I wouldn't say it's crispy on the outside, but it's definitely not squishy either. How do they get it almost 'crispy'? I've tried baking it. I've tried cooking it in the skillet with a little oil. I've tried deep frying it. I do press all of the water out first.

In my case I need lots of healthy fats to feel like I have energy. that along with fire elements foods like cayenne or warming hot tea, some mushrooms like chaga or reishi help. Like I need occasional “calorie bomb” smoothies with avocado, banana, PB, soy milk, and maybe a little coconut cream. My body just seems to need calories like I’m growing a person but it’s just me

Interesting... I’ve been vegan for nearly 3 years but I don’t believe I’ve really upped my portion intake. I just consciously try to eat protein rich foods in every meal. But even then, sometimes I eat mostly fruits and if I feel fine and I don’t question it. It’s probably bad advice for most but I do intuitively eat and I maintain a thinner weight and don’t fluctuate much. I only gain weight when I consistently eat fast food.

@@TheVeganView I like nuts because of all the nutrients and high energy for a small snack when I still feel full but low on energy. Love all kinds of fruits as well and I recently discovered a new-ish snack here in Sweden that is almonds covered in rice milk chocolate. So good but quite expensive. 😅

You can feel full on a vegan diet, easy, just stuff yourself. But that isn't the same as feeling satiated, that is difficult to achieve due to the lack of essential nutrients and quality (good amino acid profile) protein. Our bodies have a minimum that has to be met for protein and nutrients. Hard to hit those minimums with plants only. And the snacking is necessary because you're inevitably going to be on a carb rollercoaster since nearly all plant foods are packed with carbs. It's very hard to get the protein and fat you need without getting a lot of carbs with it. This is also why vegans tend to have problems with their teeth several years into the diet. Difficulty absorbing calcium from plant foods, and tons of acidic and sugary foods (vinegar, fruits, starches that break down into sugar).

Doubling and tripling your meal sounds so expensive and unhealthy.
@TheVeganView
@TheVeganView 4 жыл бұрын
We can see why you would think that! It sounds that way at first, it’s not about eating enough for 3 people, it’s about eating until you’re truly satisfied. And luckily vegan food is usually really cheap: Rice, beans, carrots, bananas, etc. It’s not like you’re eating the equivalent of 3 steaks (which would be super unhealthy and so much more expensive) It’s about eating more of the good stuff and not depriving yourself. It can be as simple as an extra 1/4 cup of oats or adding some frozen berries to your cereal. Easy stuff. Hope that makes more sense ☺️💚

I hear you - I don't like the huge bowl approach either. My meals continue to look a lot like they did before I went vegan - I like to use high protein vegan things like beans, tofu, tempeh, mock meats, etc., and then continue to have veggies as more of a side. For example, with tofu or something similar, my dinner plate looks almost exactly like it did before - the tofu/whatever as the main, with roasted veggies and maybe a carby thing and a salad on the side. Another thing I love is a vegan chili with lots of beans or any other dense bean dish (black beans, vegan cassoulet, etc.) (I have always loved beans!!) and some yummy roasted veggies on the side. Remember, you can always add some bread if you need to! Personally, I manage to eat plenty of calories as a vegan - I am far more likely to seek out ways to cut my caloric intake rather than increase it. This is partly because whiskey and French fries are vegan :)

What about our inability to ferment cellulose like herbivores do? Where to we get the sustainable nutrient dense amino acids and fats found in animal flesh? How do vegans stave off the digestive issues that can result from this?
@tspicks4360
@tspicks4360 4 жыл бұрын
@Christopher Padilla - Look at the various studies on vegans in 7th Day Adventist communities (Loma Linda CA, in particular) ... they all do just fine for amino acids, etc., and are the healthiest segment of that population. Plants contain amino acids ... just eat a variety of whole plant foods. Easy.
