I just became vegetarian/vegan this year and I already think I couldn’t be with someone who isn’t. I am not judgemental to people who aren’t but a relationship is such an intimate connection. You are literally connected to my daily life lol I don’t want to smell meat in my house or be tempted to go backwards. And, I also want someone who values health over cancer and INSPIRES me to move forward. Not someone who constantly has a lifestyle I have left behind, right in my face. That’s like an ex alcoholic constantly hanging out in the bar. It just doesn’t make sense or support what you say you want now.

My Co worker knew that I was vegan and told me that she new a cute single vegan guy , and I rolled my eyes and said that there is so much more to a relationship than Veganism , and I didn’t really want to meet him . Then we met & just clicked ! On everything ! I came home after meeting him and knew that i had never connected on that level with anyone else . We’ve been together 2 years now :) And it goes so much beyond just Veganism honestly , we had much more in common than just that , but I was definitely someone who thought that I didn’t care if my parter was vegan or not , but the strength that our relationship has because our values and lifestyle are the same is something that I think I will hold value to forever . And it’s something that I would feel is lacking if I were ever to enter into in other relationship that didn’t have that going for it .

The hardest part about dating as a vegan is compromising our strongest morals for a partner. After finding a partner who feels the exact same way as me, it's really been so amazing. I feel like it's been what I've wanted for so long. I think it's really important to look within yourself to understand how important that really is for you. If you can compromise, then do so. But I feel like I needed to be honest with myself in knowing that a relationship would *not* work out for the long-term unless they were vegan for animals. It's really unfortunate to think that so many vegans have to date and just hope that their partner will _someday_ be vegan. We're wasting our own time by dating with this hope in mind, especially if we know that we can't sacrifice these morals for the long-term. I think it would be best to be upfront right away with the things that are most important. No point in hiding. :)

I raised my child alone for reasons that had nothing to do with veganism, and now that I am free to date, I love myself just as I am and am ok with being on this ride solo if that is where my life should take me. I still lead a very whole and fulfill live. I love to spoil those around me and will continue to do so with or without a side of testosterone. Pffft.

I’ve been with my boyfriend for about 13 years. I went vegetarian 7 years into the relationship. At first he wasn’t too supportive, he would say things like “lions eat meat” or “protein” and “ancestors.” He would also refuse to try vegan food. But then in 2016 he was like “let’s go vegan” and i was like “whaaatttt?!” Apparently he had done research about vegetarianism/veganism and also came across Gary Yourofsky (I’m convinced that at the time he was researching trying to debunk vegetarianism ). So we went vegan 🤗 and now he’s the one who backs up veganism around family/friends.

I credit my meat-eating boyfriend (now husband) for the reason I was able to successfully go vegetarian about 10 years ago. I had wanted to do that for years but never did because my family was so condescending about the idea. When I told him that’s what I wanted he said it was a good idea and that I should, even though he was a meat eater. He then treated me like a vegetarian and stuck up for me when people heckled me about it. It was honestly having someone support me, take me seriously and stand up for me that allowed me to keep going that first year or two. Now I’ve never looked back and he stopped eating meat about 7 years later. Honestly, it doesn’t matter to me what he eats, because his support was what allowed me to be me.

Great topic! I went vegan after I got married and my wife was not on board. I did my best to be patient with her and respect that we are all on our own journey's but the more passionate I became about animal rights, the harder it was to be in a relationship with someone who wouldn't respect or appreciate the changes that I had made. She even made comments like 'you're not a real man because you don't eat meat' which would really piss me off. We ended up getting a divorce after a year and a half and I totally agree with Nikki in that when I am looking for a partner now, being vegan is something that's super important to me and also it's a total turnoff to see someone eating animals so I don't think I could even date a non vegan at this point.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I actually just informed someone that I couldn’t date him any longer because he does not see himself becoming vegan (he had many other qualities that were compatible with me, which made the decision difficult but still necessary). He was fine with eating at vegan restaurants with me, but he was not fully vegan outside of our dates. As someone who’s very passionate about animal rights and antispeciesism, I know that it’s important to me for my partner to be vegan if we are going to have a future. Your comment helped emphasize that. Thank you.

Help me out ladies! So my fiancé and I haven’t began planning our wedding yet but I mentioned how the food I want to be served I want to vegan because I can’t imagine catering an event that’s for me that has so much violence involved and although he has been very supportive of me and he does all the vegan cooking, he’s totally not on board because he’s caring about what everyone else will think of a vegan wedding reception because it’s only me and my mom who we know that are, so it wouldn’t be catering to the majority of the people. But honestly I don’t care because it’s not about them and it’s such a good opportunity to show them vegan food is good!

I got married in 2018. My husband and I are both vegan. Our wedding was 100% vegan. We had 105 guests and only 2 were vegan besides us. My mom put a stink about it but came around eventually. No one complained about our food and they actually commented on how great the food was! We made sure that what we served was very filling so no one could complain. We didn't give out a meal option on the invite (we never mentioned anything about the food, people just got served what we picked. We never mentioned anywhere that it was vegan). We worked with the chef at our venue to plan a full vegan menu). It turned out great. It is only one meal of their life; they are there to support you and your fiance as you get married not for a meal!

Your guests could deal with ONE single vegan meal in their day. You're not forcing everyone to eat vegan for the whole week or forever. It's just one meal. I feel for you. My parents refused to have a high school graduation party for me without dead animals, sadly it happened, and I regret it. Innocent lives were lost on account of an event for me. I didn't have college graduation party for that reason. And you can bet your booty any future events by me will be fully vegan. :) I'd say listen to your heart, your gut. If you really want a vegan meal, write down all your reasonings, maybe find places that will cater all vegan, write down what they offer, build up a really strong argument why a vegan wedding would be easy peasy and no one will miss animals for a single meal and then present to your fiance! Hoping the best for you.❤

I’m dating and live with a meat eating hunter 😅 I’d say about 80% of the meals in our home are vegan and he has never complained or been rude about it. He actually has several favorite vegan dishes he requests regularly. He understands that I will never cook non-vegan dishes and he’s never pressured me on it. When we go out we’ll go to an all vegan restaurant maybe twice a month or so. We respect each other’s choices and it has been working out so far 💕

I think it depends where you are in life. I met my husband when I wasn't vegan and switched to veganism 8 years into our marriage. I told him that I wouldn't cook any meats in the house and that if he wanted to eat meat he had to grill outside. He decided to cut out all meats except fish. So now, he grills fish once a month and I do all the cooking (which is vegan).. I never pushed him to change and of course I accepted the fact that he wanted to occasionally eat fish. However, I have a harder time with friends (non-vegans) when we go out. They go on and on about how their meat taste or whatever and it hurts. Sometimes I don't want to go out with them for this reason!

When my son goes off to college, I want to do much more activism and my dream is an activist partner. I am comfortable enough alone that i would rather be alone than settle for someone with intent to and hope to change him. Meat smells like corpse covered in spice. having shared a home with a meat eater when I was a vegetarian, i can not live with that again. It's definitely something that depends on the person. I would be open to dating someone that is open to being vegan or already vegan. For me, it's like, if you want children, you shouldn't date someone who doesn't want children. For me, it's not a personal choice if it requires harm. At first, there was a bit of tension but we quickly realised we had to live and let live. He cooks vegan food for me and eats vegan himself once a week. The final step was me realising I wasn't comfortable cooking or buying animal products for him, but once I explained this he respected it. He's 100% supportive of my choices as he saw me do all the research and saw my health improve tenfold. He's agreed to raise our future kids vegan! :)

Im male vegan and single living in MA. I try to challenge myself in dating non vegans but i date them wanting them to go vegan and just get turned off when they eat meat and wish to find another vegan. I am very accepting of all my non vegan family and few non vegan friends i have but when it comes to a significant other, i consider it more of an extension of myself, im looking for a best/close friend and to me choosing meat is just choosing death to another creature and just is cruel to me. I cant avoid those thoughts so i would rather just stick to vegans because dating non vegans just ends up dissapointing to me. I dont really want to compromise unless maybe theyre at least vegetarian because theyre somewhat on the same level but if they never ditched the eggs and cheese for at least vegan eggs and cheese i might be dissapointed.

I'm so nervous and sad right now, I've just had a discussion with my partner, one of these past days we camped with their friends which I've first met and they were grilling meat, I tried to socialize and go out the tent but couldn't bc I was having all sorts of thoughts about animals suffering, today they brought that up like I felt more important or special for not eating meat and etc but today I had plan to show him more about veganism bc I haven't done it since I was scared to make them feel pushed but they were hungry and started telling me all sorta stuff and dumb comments like plants suffer and they don't wanna have to think about their actions behind what they eat, asking that if we ever live together they'll have to go vegan yes or yes or what, etc, I was very disappointed to say the least, Idk what to do, bc they eat vegan with me mostly, but not bc they have made a connection, don't wanna end this without trying to teach them but also feel scared it's gonna be pointless...

My boyfriend is very supportive of my veganism but he is allergic to all nuts, flax seeds, chickpeas lentils and all other legumes, and soy. As of right now it is not really feasible for him to be vegan but he orders the veggie option a decent amount of the time when he can. I think he could try harder and that frustrates me occasionally but he doesn’t have the same luxury with vegan alternatives that I am afforded.

one of my biggest things as a food lover and fairly balanced partner. if you are making an honest effort to live and date a non vegan. once yall set those attemted boundaries.. respect them. if you want to change them then bring it. DO NOT go on a vegan rage and throw out non vegan accessories . its an extension you not being respectful of thier food wants likes and dislikes. it looks really bad too. imagine your partner said or did it. you come home to that. its a huge slap to face. be it an occasional item or whatever just bring it up. a balanced couple can get through the worst of situations.

I got together with my current husband and father of my child saying I can not live with someone that isn't vegan. And he said he already been interested of becoming vegan. So he became vegan and we had our beautiful child and so on. Then a year or so after our child he decided that he doesn't want to be vegan anymore. As he was eating really crapy vegan foods. We have now lived around 2 years since he started eating meat and it's slowly killing me. We have already almost gotten divorced because of it. It's pure torture to live with someone that doesn't share your ethnic's and lifestyle. We really work wonderfully as a family otherwise but it hurts me to live with someone that has such a different way of living, eating, thinking and I can't not stop longing of that vegan man by my side. So from my experience, please don't compromise your morals and ethics if you can. It will serve you in the long run 🙏🌸💖

Wait I'm confused, do people actually think that a persons food preferences should have any bearing on if they could be compatible to date or not? I mean maybe if one is like a farmer that slaughters and prepares his own food and comes home with blood stains and smelling of dead animals and the other person is a very passionate animal activist I could see it not working but if it's just as simple as 1 is vegan and 1 isn't I don't see the issue. My best friend has been vegetarian for 20 years and vegan for almost 8 and we've been friends since we we're kids and he has had tons of relationships and out of all there was only ever 1 vegan rest of the girls had standard diets. I guess maybe the persons personality comes highly into play, he is not the kind of vegan that pushes his beliefs on people or even preaches at all. He will gladly have a conversation or debate if you bring it up but he won't go out of his way to be an elitist which in my personal experience is very rare, I'm not saying most vegans are elitist I'm just saying from MY personal experience I've met maybe 20-30 vegans and only 3 or 4 acted like him. We used to play in a band together and one of his cousins friends that was a bass player looking to jam with us and was also vegan was a complete elitist asshole, we would always go somewhere to eat after practice and my best friend always chose somewhere with all dietary options because I'm not vegan, he's never commented on what I order or judged me in any way while the other guy would literally pull out his phone in the middle of a meal and pull up animal cruelty videos or slaughterhouse videos and constantly berated me like a dick for my choices. Needless to say he didn't get into the band and we both kind of stopped talking to him. So I think a vegan and a non vegan could easily be together as long as they're both open minded and respect each others personal life choices. Something I've noticed over the years is that vegans and Christians are a lot a like. If a Christian chose their faith because they truly believe in God and the bible that you most likely wouldn't even know they were Christian unless you asked, because if they were doing it for themselves and their beliefs they wouldn't feel the need to push their beliefs on others and wouldn't even have a conversation about religion unless you brought it up, and I've found the same goes for vegans, if they are truly doing it for what they feel is right than they wouldn't need to preach it to people, I feel like the ones that do like the bass player I knew were just doing it to try and act morally superior.

Loved watching this. If I was single I think I would definitely be looking for a vegan as a partner lol among other things obviously, don't settle Nikki. I agree. Have the courage to ask for what you want. I went vegan 3 months after I got married so we were locked down. It was a difficult first year because I couldn't understand why he wouldn't go vegan right away with me and he couldn't understand how I made a complete life change over night. I had a serious discussion with him about not wanting animal products in the house and he asked questions and was very open minded and supportive. He's still not vegan but 4 years later he is dairy free and chooses more plant based options when we're out. He understands how this is a purely ethical decision and eats anything I make for him at home. We also have a son and since I do all the cooking anyway we are raising him vegan because I said so lol When he's old enough to make his own decisions he can do what he wants but in our home it will always be vegan.

Hey, not attacking you, just annoyed with the wrong interpretation of veganism that is being formed right now, could you please answer are you plant-based or vegan? Because not eating animal products doesn't make you vegan. Veganism is a whole way of living that excludes all the exploitation of non-human animals as far as possible as well as the understanding that they are equal to us and deserve freedom, natural life, natural family and home.(sorry if this seems heavy but it's incredibly important)

I love when people say "not attacking" then they attack. I am vegan. I have vegan tattoos, I do animal activism with AV, I am a vegan photographer and support animal sanctuaries. I completely understand the difference.

"Oh look at me I am vegan I don't eat animal products but will happily take their habitat because taking an animal's home is okay because they can magically move somewhere else" Also I would recommend you watch the South park episode of a couple who forced their kid to be vegan. I will skip the end- the kid killed himself because he was a pussy. Your entire paragraph doesn't sound like you are doing any compromise but forcing your husband your baggage and not mention your kid.

I needed this episode! I've been with my partner about two and a half years and I went vegan right after we got together (he knew from the beginning that I planned on going vegan and I had been vegetarian for years at that point) We got together in college and we both lived in separate apartments and we argued every so often about the ethics and I was always afraid of it being a deal breaker, but I didn't really care what he ate as much. I just wasn't thinking about it. Now we live together, and he mostly eats vegan in the house, but he does want to bring non-vegan things in. Last night we went to the grocery store and got into a big argument because he had a coupon for dairy creamer that he wanted to use and I said we should just get the non-dairy creamer. It spiraled into another "how can we make this work" argument that we have every three weeks or so. I think we relate a lot to Nisha's story. I ideally want to spend my life with a vegan, but he is my best friend and I can't imagine giving up on trying to make it work. I am hoping that he can agree to be vegan in the house at least, and I can try to accept where he is at with his process/journey. Thanks for the episode!!!

Eva Green Lover not everyone has the same morals and that is totally fine with me. The internal issue I have been having with myself is do I want to share my life with someone who takes actions that clash with my morals. I haven’t tried to stop him from eating whatever he wants when I’m not around. I didn’t love that he wanted to get creamer that I wouldn’t be able to use. Then we would have to buy two creamers when we could’ve gotten one. I also relate to Nisha about seeing eggs in our fridge or smelling eggs and that doesn’t make me feel very good.

When I first went vegetarian I had been dating my SO for about a year or two. He was around as I was putting in all the research to switch to being fully vegan and at first he was like you do you. But after listening to all the reasons I wanted to go vegan he decided he wanted to as well. We were together for 6 years and it ended due to unrelated issues but it was wonderful to date someone who agreed with all of my stances on veganism. The last guy I dated was not vegan and pretty much ate the SAD diet. He was supportive at first and even went vegan for a week and said he enjoyed it and felt really good but went back to eating meat. At first he didn’t eat it around me out of respect but towards the end he ate whatever he wanted. It did make me a little uncomfortable to be around that but I don’t push veganism on anyone and I know my stance on it and like you said not everyone is at the point yet. Obviously it would be ideal to date a vegan or at least someone open to eating vegan most of the time but it’s not something that bothers me too much. Hunters are a no go though, I had a bad experience dating a hunter and no thanks, don’t want to do that again.

The hard part is when you’re in a long term relationship , but later on become vegan and he doesn’t. Discussing parenting styles, wanting to raise your kids with a vegan diet, but your partner wants to make meals for the kids that aren’t vegan. Veganism is a lifestyle, it’s deeper than just food choices ; it’s a strong belief system in feeding your body what it needs to thrive. Can’t compromise on that 😩. As a parent I don’t wanna knowingly feed my kids stuff that isn’t best for their health. I understand giving kids the freedom to choose because you want them to be happy… but I kind of look at it like this: I wouldn’t give my kids a choice to drink water or juice all day… water is obviously the healthier better choice. I view a vegan diet the same way 😩😩😩

I would think they were insane if they required me to eat meat around them cause that is their preference (in reference to asking others to eat vegan when eating out with you). I just try to keep in mind the golden rule. I wouldn’t want to date a keto nut who just preached at me about meat and so I try to keep that in mind when speaking about my choice to live a vegan lifestyle to others.

I love watching your videos and am not trying to offend anyone 💛

Hey, thanks for your kind comment. We don’t think that eggs are crushed chickens but we do believe that it’s unethical to use animals as breeding machines when we don’t need to eat them to survive and live healthy lives. The rate at which egg laying hens produce eggs in the animal agriculture industry causes them a great deal of pain and they often develop bone disease. In this industry, their lives are entirely created and then exploited purely because we like eating eggs, and that just doesn’t feel right. Hope that helps you see where we’re coming from! 💚

I think they were making the point that a by-product of egg production is crushed baby chickens, so essentially by buying eggs you're also paying for more baby chickens to be crushed up (male chick's are literally tossed in a big grinder... there's no words to describe how horrific and inhumane this practice is)

Hey! That’s a common misconception but actually, the number animals produced for food in this country is based on demand. So when demand goes down, so does supply. Vegan diet is a terrible choice. It makes you deficient in so many nutrients and worst of all, pushes your mental health to the worst possible state and makes you feel hyper-depressed and suicidal. And I have noticed that vegans tend to look very sickly and skinny compared to people who eat a normal diet. I have encouraged former vegetarians to start eating well-cooked meat and their mental and physical health improved dramatically. It's extremely sad to see in western societies, how so many people, especially women are ruining themselves by adopting this ridiculous lifestyle, just to get some 'woke' points and virtue signal to people how 'morally superior' they are as people.
