is it possible to distinguish between noise from valves or lifters before opening up rocker cover and checking further?
@ruth9370Ай бұрын
I thought the tappets when I heard the sound since the engine is tapping.

I don't see any sort of electronics on your stethoscope. How did you make the recordings? Did you just put the cellphone microphone on the earpiece?
@PhillipsVision7 ай бұрын
Yes, I put the mic up to the ear piece
@juanm2188 Жыл бұрын
How did you hook up the microphone to the earphones - just place a mike near them or a physical connection? If so how? Thank you good video
@PhillipsVision Жыл бұрын
Just use a sensitive mic and place it near the ear piece

i used one after mechanic said it was tensioner and changed it and noise came back, ended up being alternator bearing
@johnreed71644 жыл бұрын
That’s actually a similar noise and around the area on my 2006 Lincoln zephyr so u think it could possibly be my lifters also?
@PhillipsVision4 жыл бұрын
John Reed perhaps, but you could use an engine treatment to see if it helps. I did a product review for Lucas and Rislon products. The vids are on my channel
@johnreed71644 жыл бұрын
Phillips Vision ok so u recommend trying that first before I start digging into it?

John Reed yes, sometimes that’s all it takes

Did adding the oil fix it?

Álvaro Coronel no, it needs the valve lifters Replaced. I’m testing a couple engine treatments to see if they help which I will review on my channel this coming week

@@PhillipsVision Hi I haven't experience yet. But what if valve making slight noise what would you use for treatment before taking apart? I'm not a mechanic but I love my Mustang that I bought. It's a 2001 like the leak from the tranny I used atp at-205 half bottle and stop leak and smoke that oil was landing on exhaust. If my car was you'rs and ticking coming from valve. What would u do before taking it apart? What treatment? Ty for replying buddy :)

@@rcrotorfreak I would use a combination of Lucas Oil Stabilizer and Lucas Engine Oil Stop Leak. I have a recent video on my channel showing this.

I have my toyota innova..4 years ago it was overheated..from that time same knocking noise occured in my car..i had done nothing to engine..from that time i my car completed 80000 km running..n still car running ..no any other issue..but only same noise knocking..n at morning cold start first five second it has loud knocking after 5 second knocking sound decreses but knocking continues..what is problem? N what to do..plz give the solution..
@MarzNet256 Жыл бұрын
It could be a loose timing chain caused by a worn chain and tensioner or low/old oil which drives the tensioner. The sound will improve after a few seconds as pressurized oil fills the tensioner. Also, not changing oil enough or letting it get too low can cause premature wear to timing chain and tensioner. Hook up a scan tool and monitor crank/cam correlation and/or timing advance at idle. If values are unstable, chain and/or tensioner are worn out.

I have 2 of Those cheap stethoscopes. They are loose when you buy them which causes very loud sound that is deceiving and can hurt your ears. Tried to fox but plastic bulb broken.
@juanm2188 Жыл бұрын
I think they need to be loose. Sound is created by vibrations. The more vibrations the better the sound perhaps. I have one from Harbor Freight (on sale for $5) and I was amazed at how loud a sound I got out of it. It was startling at first but then I got used to it. If the rod were ridged I think it would detract from the sound quality.
@robwazny9416 Жыл бұрын
@@juanm2188 I think the better ones are not loose. O was going to get a pair but forgot all about it lol

can that stethoscope hurt people ears if they put it right on the knock location(like if it’s a bolt that’s being clanked by flywheel or something)?

My 2015 Toyota sienna making the same noise. Can you please guide on recommending a good mechanic in NYC areas. Some of them saying to change the engine. I don't want to change it because it has a low mileage and I owned it since new
@PhillipsVision3 жыл бұрын
Not sure who I’d recommend. I do my own work but know a good trust worthy near Dover, DE. It’s a little far from NYC. It could be an engine problem if it’s the timing chain and/or sprocket

@@Salth7 try using the engine oil additive by Lucas. If it’s only a lifter issue, that may solve your problem

@@PhillipsVision Already add 1 quart of Lucas oil additive. The car noticeably quieter but when accelerating (2000-2500 RPM) the tacking becomes louder. After 3000 RPM is not noticeable. Is that normal? Car had 150K miles

@@Salth7 you can add up to 60% to 80% if Lucas if needed. It gives the recommended ratio on the container
