Lot of work on your part to make a good video. Very Instructive, especially on the small stuff that would normally be left out. That really helps.

BTW... WHAT was the chunk of plastic that made the motor stop turning ??

Thanks for posting this bro. I had the same piece of melted plastic blocking my motor from spinning. This video helped me solve the problem.

Good job! I just disassembled mine and ordered a rebuild kit. I’ll use some of your tips when I do the rebuild. I especially like the tip about lowering the blade to get better access to the motor mount bolts. Thanks.

The bearing puller has two 2 extra holes on the flat surface for the puller bolts and one for the pointed center shaft. Once everything is complete, you just tighten clockwise your center bolt and you will see that bearing will come out.

Funny Story- I had a craftsman table saw for years & years. THEN, one day I was sawing and a bolt of lightning flashed out of the motor & the breaker popped. After the smoke cleared, I pulled on the belt to see if the motor would turn-NO. So, I bought a new motor. While I was removing the old motor I found steel powder all over it. Sometimes, I put on a metal cutting blade and cut steel. Apparently, the steel shavings dusted the motor & eventually got into the cooling holes. SO, I cut a piece of cardboard & mounted it shielding the new motor so that any shavings will stay out of the new motor. !

This was very very helpful. Thank you. I am planning to change the grease of the gear mechanism between the two top bearings. What kind of grease should I use? The reason I ask is because I used NLGI 2 grease, different type and they all flew out of the casing making a mess. I figured one need to have a much thicker grease to stay in the enclosure between the two bearings, to keep grease on the gears.

At 6:12, I found once I loosened the lower 2 bolts, I cranked the height knob all the way down and it gave me more room to get my fingers under to finish unscrewing them.

Nice job, I bet that felt good. And you were obviously confident since you didn't bother testing the motor before you reinstalled it.

Thanks, I had a pretty good feeling that the melted rubber was not going to allow the motor to turn and because of the humming sound coming from the motor.

Nice video. I'm going to attempt it on mine. Problem is the back of the housing is deformed and I worry the bearing cup will wedge again seizing the bearing once more.
@fixit9888
@fixit9888 Жыл бұрын
If I was in your position, i would probably try to add something to the bearing cup to keep it in place(some type of adhesive). I wouldn't buy a new housing because it cost too much. The bearing cup is just holding the bearing in place so that it doesn't begin to wobble. If it doesn't work out, is time for a new machine i suppose.

If you would heat the bearing it will expand and might just fall off by itself.

One of the best repair videos I have seen. Bro, you have a talent not only to repair, but to provide detailed narration while doing so. Very detailed. Very well done !! One question. What was the plastic blob you removed and did you replace it with a new one ?
@fixit9888
@fixit9888 10 ай бұрын
The plastic blob was the bearing cup. It melted because of the friction, so it became just a blob of plastic.

@@fixit9888 I just opened mine according to your instructions. I now know what the plastic blob is. It is the casing for the impeller. It is not the cup at the end of the shaft. Just wanted to let you know. So your motor is now missing an impeller cover and therefore the airflow is altered. The cooling can get affected.
@fixit9888
@fixit9888 10 ай бұрын
@@panthera7291 look online and see if you can buy that casing. I think it's expensive. I have found used parts for other things on eBay. That might be a better route for you if you do not want to spend too much on the repairs. Hopefully you find it there.

Put the bearing in the oven at 220, put the armature in the freezer.

Not sure if you remember but when you took the motor out did you have 2 shims fall out from one of the bolts holding the motor on?

@fixit9888 no there was no certain time in the video, I ask because when I had to tear down the motor and replace all bearings on my saw a few days ago and when I removed the motor 2 shims fell out from one of the bolts that hold the motor on. Thanks for the reply tho.

Thank you for making this video and in such great detail. My table saw just quit working, I’d like to give this a try but I have a question.. What kind of adhesive should I use to glue the bearing cup?
@fixit9888
@fixit9888 Жыл бұрын
Don't put any adhesive. The bearing cup is there to retain the bearing. It will not come out once the bearing is inside the cup.

Oh, really? I purchased a plastic epoxy for the bearing cup. I assumed because the old one was hard to remove it was glued in place from the factory. Im still waiting on the bearing cup to give this a try. Thank you for making your video and for your reply.

This video set me on the path to fixing my table saw. I have the rebuild kit from Amazon. I don’t know if you remember specifically, but can you tell me if the two bearings on the armature need to face in any particular orientation? I’ve looked at them and can’t see any reason why one side needs to face inward or outward. Thanks for any insight you might have.
