Chris I want to tell you how much I appreciate your videos. I was able to paint my house here recently. You gave me the confidence and the tips to be able to do it. It’s not perfect but I am very happy with the way it turned out. I used a Graco X5 Magnum airless sprayer. It worked really well. Painted my yellow fiber cement siding a dark blue “anchors away, sherwin Williams”. I was amazed how well it covered. I used the sherwin Williams Everlast paint from Lowe’s. Thank you so much for what you do! God bless you my brother.

I generally use the same method on base board and other wood trim. I use regular masking tape with clear caulking, mainly because there's always that gap between the baseboard/trim and wall. As you mentioned, put your tape down, run the caulking and cut in, then get the tape off before everything dries. I usually mention it to the customer and they're like "Yeah, whatever" but after they see the finished product they're pretty impressed. Probably used ten cents worth of product to give it a much cleaner, more professional look.

I have used a similar technique to fix a bad feature wall before. It really makes no odds on the finished look being a bit over, as long as the line is straight.

Awesome. I've been using this technique for many many years but I start from the top, go all the way Down to the bottom using one continuous strip of tape to avoid breaks in the line unless you are very good at connecting the tape perfectly. If you have to use breaks in the tape, maje sure you rip the tape before you stick it down to avoid curving the Tape.

Love the channel! It’s taught me a ton, however; I’m having difficulties with figuring out cleaning and storing methods for spraying latex vs oil based paints, any chance you could make a video? I have two deck stains in about to use, I can’t determine if I can spray them or not because one says water based, the other says acrylic/oil blend
@doobyjay24704 жыл бұрын
Cleaning latex vs oil is the same method just water vs spirits. Always clean thoroughly after each use and your pump will last for years. As far as storage never store a sprayer with water in lines when it's below freezing. Use spirits to protect your equipment from freezing. As far as staining I prefer a brush and roller to get good penetration on and in the wood. Also you can get more in the grooves of the decking. Just my two cents! Painter for life!

Trying to get our house painted before snow, gonna have to come back an do cutins later, can you paint in wintertime or no?
@KekelMyShekel4 жыл бұрын
Depends if its inside or out, inside wouldnt be a problem obviously. You can just turn the heat up a bit. Outside there are special paints that you can apply in lower tempeturen. 5C/41F is about as low as you can get tempeture wise. These paints are partially silicone based. There are also certain solvents you can add into your paint that alter the drying time allowing it to properly dry in the summer and winter.

Bad idea
@Idahopainter4 жыл бұрын
Resilience would be the paint to use. Some paints dry down to 34 degrees but still not a good idea if you want the paint job to last. Of course painter in Boise do it all the time that’s why the repaint business is so lucrative here.

I have what may be an odd question. I am painting an old house with very imperfect drywalled/mudded walls(bumps dips etc). Other that obviously mudding it correctly first: When cutting edges ie ceiling/wall: Are are you aiming for dead center of the edge(50/50) or do you make your line on the wall or ceiling? My first round of this went slowly because i was free handing it and aiming for the perfect 50/50 split. But im seeing better results now by just putting my ceiling line on the wall itself. Just 1/16 or 1/8. But by doing this i find i can use the ceiling to steady my hand with brush againt the ceiling. More pressure than i was using before because im not aiming for he exact corner. You follow me?
@twsd4 жыл бұрын
Hey Shaun you may want to try caulking that rough wall / ceiling line first. It helps to even out that uneven line. As for the cut in I have found that it’s better to have the wall color go on to the ceiling a 1/16”. The reason is an optical illusion that makes it look like a perfectly straight line. Try it.
@shaunw.72994 жыл бұрын
@@twsd thabkyou! Yes thats what i just tried out. I saw my wife doing it after i had done the entire living room and kitchen myself--the whole time aiming for 50/50 corner. It looks SO much better this way-- ceiling line on the wall 1/16. Looks so nice! And my cutting was easily 125% faster as well as straighter

Never start your tape in the middle of the cut. Always make ur tape as long as possible. Take the time to bring your tape from top to bottom. Don’t use multiple pieces of tape to creat a line they will never match up perfectly.
