I thought about doing exactly this but was reluctant (afraid that I might damage something in the process...) to do so until I came across your video and all the associated positive comments on how well this procedure worked to clear your oiler. I do like the suggestion to use diesel instead of regular gas both from a safety standpoint and from a lubrication standpoint. Thanks for taking the time to share this solution with THE WORLD!!!!

I tried this. Guess what? After sloshing around some lacquer thinner inside the oil reservoir, I poured it out, then stuck an air gun inside the reservoir opening to dry out the thinner and hopefully blow out any remaining trash. A shiny piece of something blew out and settled to the floor. I picked it up. It was a large piece of one of those round foil covers that you have to push through when you open the cap on a new gallon pail of bar and chain oil. It must have fallen inside the reservoir during a fill-up. I went ahead and turned the oil dispensing screw on the bottom of this Echo CS-490 all the way to the left just to be sure the chain is getting properly lubed. Thanks so much.

Used this procedure on a Echo 360 which had stopped oiling the blade, resulting in a jammed nose sprocket . I firstly sucked out the emptied oil tank using a wet and dry vacuum. Then I filled the oil tank with white spirit, as opposed to risking gasoline, and revved it until the spirit appeared. Emptied oil tank again and let it drain for an hour to evaporate any residue of spirit. Running the machine head without the chain the oil appears to be feeding through, so we shall see when I've lubed the sprocket. A jamming sprocket was the thing that started me off on this. I'll let you know if it works.
@tinkergene5 жыл бұрын
by putting gas in the oil tank - may harm the pump - ( no lube ) But with the oil that is left in the tank gave the pump enough lube . Diesel fuel or sea foam is a great idea !

Awesome thanks! I've rinsed my oil tank out with gas but never ran it. My saw started burning the bar the last time I used it and I found out it wasn't pumping oil so I cleaned it out and still nothing cleaned it out again and used motor oil and it came out but not as fast as thin oil should but I was afraid to run it with gas in the tank not sure if it would eat the plastic components of the oil pump

My Echo 650 has auto oiler, not as good as pump, but easy pull clean and fix. Blade is at max 24" size and oiler needs a few 10 seconds between cuts to load bar with oil. Pump is better, my saw is good for landlord on large lot

Should i take diesel or? Someone help
@phillipkramer66387 жыл бұрын
It should have the resistance the chain provides when engaging the clutch ends up moving the chain. To little resistance will over rev it which is a bad thing
@BIGAIR3037 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend diesel. Not as dangerous and also won't be as big of issue with harming the bearings.

wish me luck.. just came home with new oil pump and she still doing the same thing.. no oil.. its clean hole is clean..bar is clean.. so what the heck.. watched lots of video.. and i think i am going to put a little gas and marvel mystery oil in it.. and hope i don't catch anything on fire.. fire chief is my neighbor.lol.....but.. have a question maybe some one might help here with.. suppose i need a gear or something else replaced.. when i got a new oil pump.and what about spraying with some carb cleaner in oil tank and not running it.. too flammable?.

Use the seafoam cleaner directly in the oil compartment or just for cleaning by the oil output to chain? Thanks

Seafoam is good stuff for cleaning anything related to gasoline engines. In this case, if you don't have Seafoam, I bet kerosene would work, but haven't had to try it. Yet. Good video! I'll put this in my memory chip.
