How to fix Chevy/GM Electronic Power Steering blown fuse

This 07 HHR has no power assist due to a blown 60-amp JCase fuse. Get the fuse here:

The fuse in in the Under Hood Fuse Box. The fuse was blown while using the car to jump start another vehicle. This may also apply to Malibu, Vibe, Cobalt, G3, Saturn ION with EPS equipped.

Just wanted to write and say thanks for your video. I left my keys in the ignition all day while I Was in my work truck and a stupid colleague of mine hooked up the jumper cables to the fuse box not knowing the battery is in the back of the car. Well, right when I saw him do this I noticed he touched that 60amp fuse (first fuse upper left) and I saw smoke. I know nothing about cars but my uncle came by, took some tin foil and placed it under the fuse and now I can steer. So, i will be buying a new fuse tomorrow. I saw thank you because the fuse box doesn't tell you which fuse is for power stearing. it says that fuse is for ABS which is clearly wrong. We also have the free electronic steering box the dealership gave to us for the recall, but we never installed it. We will this weekend. Anyways, I did a quick google search and your vid was the first to pop up and it showed me what fuse i needed to confirm.

Ty Lehew Tech from Reilly's Classic TV here in Lindenwold, New Jersey (Philly area). My roommate owns a 2011 Chevy HHR wagon which she just got back from the shop on Wednesday 10/13/2021. Her vehicle needed traction bearings and tune up but on 10/13/2021 her power steering was acting up next even showing message on her dash well I tried the 60 amp J fuse replacement and her power steering is now good again and you can also buy these same fuses at Advanced Auto Parts btw. If it was for not myself watching your video here, I would have not found the issue out thanks! Luck and continued prayer hopefully no more problems.

If you have a stretched out serpentine belt it can cause your power steering to fail (due to electric power steering). Don't under estimate the under power received from a cracked belt. I thought I had to replace my power steering motor as it failed as I was cornering. I was simply getting around to replacing the serpentine belt prior to the power steering fix, took'er out for a test and power steering had returned. This vid totally helped me Doctor House my car tho.

Does your car have electronic power steering? If so, was the stretched belt affecting the output of the alternator which was in turn affecting the power steering assist?

Thanks for the refresh I've had to replace this fuse a few times. This fuse blows every single time if you have to jump your car and you dont do it correctly. Frustrating because if you or the person jumping your HHR does it wrong it will cost you 5 dollars everytime.😢

I tried giving my daughter a jump for her car with my HHR and sure enough the power steering went out on me. I saw it spark in that area of the 60 amp fuse and so my gutt told me so. I take myself to o'rileys. Guy said it's not the fuse. It was good. I still didn't think so. But sure enough I went. ahead and bought the fuse and it corrected the issue. Now I see this video and he knows what it is too. The bad part of it all is the guy at the parts store would have to piss me off telling me it's the power steering box. LOL Thank you Jesus. I prayed Jesus I need a miracle after church and sure enough I fixed the problem with that fuse. And my window wipers work too for some odd reason.

My 07 Pontiac G5 is just weird asf, just had it serviced and a fuse link wire replacement done so the alternator could charge the battery (it was missing apparently when we put a new engine/tran in, prior owner didnt have it I guess). Seemed all fine, then the car had electrical issues again, where EPS cuts out, and dash gauges would twitch back to 0 aswell as Power Steering popping up. Any idea why this may be? I read there is a possible Steering: EPAS recall for this year. This also cause the headlights to dim or cut out. Dang car just doesnt want to live again! lmao

The same thing happened to me! i was driving in the highway and suddenly my steering wheel clicked and my power steering was gone. I managed to drive it like that for a couple days while I researched what the problem might be. I finally gave up after numerous hours researching. I gave up and tried trouble shooting myself! So first thing i did was get it scanned a C460 code came up and i checked the fuse and it was fine. Since that wasn't the problem; with the car off I removed the cover for the electronic power steering motor and wiggled the wiring and made sure all the connector were probably seated and clicked. I turned the car on and it started working! The power steering was back! I did not disconnect the battery or anything I do not know if it a temporary or a permanent fix but I just started my 5th day after i did this and power steering is working fine! You know I looked at this video yesterday and what I can't figure out is that my hhr fuse for the power steering is on the passenger side pop out the shield and the power steering is # 19 a small 2 amp fuse and even the fuses under the hood 90 % were loose press them down maybe part of the problem I don;t know what the heck but a 60 amp was way to big and the owners manual is vague just pull out the fuse to see what size it is you don't need a Jcase fuse others will do

Lehew Tech about a week ago my power steering started to go out and I went to KZbin to see if anyone had problems with their 20007 HHR power steering and I saw you explain what to do. I went to auto zone to purchase a fuse , just the one # 60 instead of the two #60. I purchased it anyway thinking it would work, the car was ok until today my power steering went out again so I went back to listen to your videotape again and I remembered you saying to use a J case. I put it in and now I going to see if that works. I will let you know tomorrow and thank you for sharing.
