How to fix Heat in Classic BMW || Blow Hot Air BMW Heater E30 E28 E24 E23 E21 1980-1990

Just another Quick How To video on how to get your AC system blowing hot air this winter. All it took was a quick and cheap repair of the Heater valve's mono solenoid sensor. Job is being performed on a 1988 BMW 535is with an M30 engine. Even the M20 engines are equipped with the same heating system so this is indeed a universal fix!

Is it normal for the blend motor to get power only when the dash blend switch is in the off (fully cold) position? Once I rotate the heat setting switch towards the hot side power falls completely off at the heater valve motor.

Could you clarify? Could be a grounding issue or bad connection at your motor blower if it's not receiving power when you turn it on.

My valve had three shims, one thicker, the curly one and the thin one? Yours only had the curly shim and the thin shim. Do you know if there are different models? I left it as you assembled it in your video and I have perfect heat, but I'm still not sure why I had three shims?

Some of these kits are also made for other cars with similar systems. Extra shims are likely for another cars setup. For example, one of my next videos will be the power steering system rebuild. I have leftover parts because the rebuild kit is also made for a Porsche 944 but not needed in the E28

@@MissionmadeAirsoft I have the exact same vehicle, minus the manual and I have three shims buddy, according to the E28 forum and FB groups the majority if not all have three shims on their valve, not sure why yours is missing one, but it works with or without the third shim. 1988 E28 535i automatic here.

Wish the e30 part was easier and cheaper to replace. Looks like retrofitting one into a e30 is easy.

Do e30s not use that same heater valve system? The heat in my car is almost too hot after this fix

what is the purpose of the middle vent switch?

It allows fresh air to enter the cabin. If you have it open while the heat is on, you won't feel the heat because its being diluted with cold fresh air.
