I have transverse myelitis in my lower spinal cord and 5 lesions in my left frontal brain lobe. My neurologist explained to me and my husband that they are located in the part of the brain that controls speech and swallowing. When I get upset with my daughter, feel rushed, panicky, or overly excited the signal my brain sends for me to say what I want to say has trouble getting through the lesions and I lose my ability to speak correctly. I also have trouble remembering/recalling words I wanted to say…they just leave me or I can’t get it out…or it comes out wrong or backwards, etc… I’ve noticed with my 12 year old daughter when she’s really challenging me and I get upset that when I can’t get my words out correctly she sometimes makes fun of me. That causes a reaction that only curse words are able to come up. Like having Tourette’s syndrome. It’s so very frustrating and I’m currently waiting for an appointment with a speech therapist to help with my issue. All that being said, you never know what’s going on with a person so never judge…just straight up ask that person instead of assuming things. MS runs in my family so my neurologist follows me closely with contrast MRI’s and other studies that I won’t get into but I just wanted to say I hope you get better and don’t let it stress you out!!

I remember being a little girl & my great-grandmother had bat wings, my grandmother had bat wings, then my mother who had lost a lot of weight years ago, & has kept it off all of this time has the bat wings. Now that I'm a grandmother myself, I have some awful bat wings as well. I also have that neck hump. I'm going to try these things that you showed us on the video. Tyvm!! It's hard work being part bat! 😉😬😂😄👍 My question is: Would it help the hump neck issue if I sleep without a pillow? I feel like the pillow is bad for the neck & reinforces the hump neck position. Tyvm for sharing this information. 👍✌😊🎾➰
@shadowkissed23702 жыл бұрын
A little heads up, sometimes the neck hump is not because you are out of shape. I had one for years and my doctors kept telling me it was just my body and that is how my body is. Then I fell and they found a majorly slipped disk in my neck. When they operated to fix the disk they found out it had been damaged for so long it was calcified and had been cutting into my spinal cord. My neurosurgeon said I had to have damaged my C-spine a very long time ago for it to be calcified and I had to have been in a major car accident for the extensive damage to have happened. I know I had never been in a car accident but I was abused as a child and in my young adult years during my first marriage. After surgery, the neck hump went away and it has not been back since. SO please be careful if you have a neck hump. It could be something more than you think it is.

It is important to sleep with the least amount of pillow that you can. Also I make it a habit (a strange habit) at the end of each day to lie on my back on the carpet without a pillow and put my legs up on a chair (like an astronaut position). I set the timer or count slowly to 250 -300. I completely relax into the floor and can feel the spine slowly flattening and becoming straight again. Get up slowly if you have never done this before. Gravity is a great straight spine persuader if you are persistent. It may take a while before you stop feeling the hard spots in your spine against the carpet.

Congrats, Pat. I've lost 160 lbs down to 209 over the last 17 years. I was tested for diabetes and had it. I did use the low-carb (Adkins diet in those days). Things got complicated 15 years ago when my husband came down with Stage 4 colon cancer. I worked at FSU with grad students and had access to medical journals and Steve lived for 10 years until we ran into a new chemotherapy that landed him in the hospital not once but twice. I lost him late that year. I lost more weight due to sorrow, and then I got covid in May 2020. The county had just opened the drive-thru testing and I wanted to know what it was like. Tuesday after Memorial Day they called me and said I was positive for covid. Got the people I had been with the info and they all tested negative. Over 3 weeks I tested negative twice but through it all I was asymptomatic. In Nov, my teeth started breaking off mostly molars but 1 bottom front tooth. No blood, no pain, except the broken pieces of remaining teeth. In January, NPR ran a piece with a doctor and dentist that were working with a young teenage boy who had the same problem I did. The doctors both agreed the blood-rich jaws are an excellent place for covid to attack. After about 6 months with no nutrition or support from the body both the nerves are damaged (no sensation) and the teeth are so brittle they break. After that, I was eating soft stir-fries, soups, some pasta and lost 70 more pounds since then. I have lots of loose skin AND the horrible batwings which prevent me from wearing blouses with sleeves unless it's t-shirt material. I'm interested in seeing what you suggest. I do have some arthritis in the neck/upper shoulder of the spine and I'm going to try your method of stretching the spine. It will be on the bed but I'll lay down a section of plywood for firmness. Had both of my knees replaced and they do not like being on the floor.

I am looking for a new set, the old ones having disappeared in a household move sometime ago... I KNOW there is no way a tennis ball would have been possible at that point, my nerves were so sensitized to pain... but I found some children's toys at the dollar store that work. Today, because of this video, I went looking on the internet... the whole system, book included, is available on a number of sites, for around $20. Thanks for reminding me, Brad and Bob! My grandma called it " prosperity bao". In olden days you would find it in rich family members above age 40's usually due to too much sitting and not much physical exercise. During my childhood days, I saw it more in guys who are overweight, usually from well to do families

My back and neck are straight because I stand in a narrow doorway with my back up against the door frame. I push against the other side of the door frame until my calves, small of my back and neck are being forced to touch the frame. It's hard at first. I hold it there for 2 minutes. Been doing this for several years and my back is very straight. You have to remember to always sit up straight and not let your head hang forward. I also have a Total Gym for arms. I'm 69.

This video is so relevant to me and I think many others. I already worked on my “hump” with a tennis ball and just lay across the bed to soften the intensity. It actually felt good and I hope I’m not imagining it, but it helped already. Thanks again.
