In Brazilian Portuguese if is said that someone is ''dona do pedaço'' (big boss) means that this person has great influence in local community as politician or as entrepreneur, or as artist of great success, etc, and the pun comes from ''pedaço'' that means ''piece (of cake) '', but also means ''district'', ''zone'', ''region'', an delimited area. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Dona_do_Peda%C3%A7o

Im from rio and honestly the contatinho culture is SO accurate. It gets annoying some times actually because a good 90% of people are only interested in having you as a contatinho but thats ok as long as u keep the “caiu na rede é peixe” (if its a woman/man I’ll take it) mindset 🤪🤪

I don't understand that phrase very well what do you mean by saying "if it's a woman/man I'll take", what does it mean? Is something like " as long as it is a sexual partner of my preference I am ok? This video was incredible. I spent 2 months in Rio earlier last year, and I felt like people were so carefree and open to approach anyone. But in my opinion also girls were approaching men/women. I went to Carneval and more than five GIRLS came to talk to me and wanted to kiss me (I’m a girl as well) 😂 but then guys at the beach/on the streets... so damn annoying! Cat-calling is a real thing and huge problem there. In another hand if we talk about relationships, Cariocas and brazilians in general are super jealous and possessive, maybe it’s because of the flirting culture. Also very much conservative. I still love Cariocas and I miss Rio. But wouldn’t want a boyfriend from there, maybe contatinho 😏 Valeuuu

The catcall part is more in Rio, we still can be very conservative and sexist that is for sure true, but now is not the norm anymore. Deppends a lot of where and when you are, carnaval in Rio is normally the place and time people go to do ...well... things they wouldn't do in front of their parents haha. I live in the capital Brasília, here catcall is really rare. Also in Brazil catcalling is against the law, we have several strong laws made in the last 20 years against sexist behaviors, I think that is why decreased a lot this too.

Haha As a Brazilian I can testify that this is SPOT ON! I lived in Rio for 4 years and although adjusting to the carioca-way-of-life was hard (contatinhos is a thing), it turned into the MOST AMAZING place I have ever lived. Being able to easily meet people - either to make friends or to flirt/date - is priceless and the cariocas definitely know how to have fun! In addition, meeting people at the beach makes conversations flow easily and everybody is just more relaxed, chill and good vibes. As far as the actual flirting goes though, cariocas are not that good at that (people from the Northeast of Brazil are steps aheadI!). Still a great place. I live in LA now but I miss Rio EVERY SINGLE DAY. S2 ¨

@@user-jy7yn1ro8j aaahhh, ok. I would say anywhere in Brazil, including Rio. Profile might change from one city to another, like Sao Paulo and Rio (somewhat similar to NY and LA, for instance), but you can still find loyal women seeking a relationship anywhere in the country. The advantage of the Brazilian culture is that people are generally more open with people they don't know so well, so it is easier to meet people and, consequently, find a relationship or someone who is one the same page as you. The US has always been much harder for me on that sense. If you have to pick a region or city, I would still recommend Rio, Sao Paulo, Recife, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre and Florianópolis.

Its been a very long time since I was in Rio de Janeiro but the energy there just breathes sensuality . The language , the bossa nova , the waves on the beach , the mountains , the lush forests its a visually stunning city that is a assault on the senses . I know all of Latin America well and Rio is definetely the most sensual city of Latin America . Buenos Aires is also a huge surprise as it comes across as conservative but is very wild once you break down the barriers . If you live in the right neighbourhood of Buenos Aires its a very romantic city as well .

I’m from Rio and, even though what they said is very true, I have to say it’s not like that with everyone. There are guys who will want to date you exclusively from the moment they meet you, there are guys who will say they love you within a week of talking to you and they’ll SUFFOCATE you, texting you all day. Also, my “contatinhos” usually become my friends and I’ll continue talking to them even after we are done with the fun stuff hahaha and one of your contatinhos usually will want something more or you’ll want something more, so that’s not that black and white. we usually take at least a month of going out with someone to make it exclusive, if we like them. Once I was going out with a guy for a month and he was already acting like my boyfriend, when I was just having fun, so it’s easier to make it clear lol

coming from a more laid back country in the south east asia, i find this culture a bit of a eureka moment! not shock, anymore, but more of “aaaahhhhh” because i have a crush with this hot brazilian dude (i hope he’ll never see my comment here ever lol), and almost everything just fits like a puzzle in my head. i mean, you see, i wasn’t raise in a culture with sleeping with anyone or kissing someone u just met is a thing... nor am i so exposed with people like that lol and for many months, i kept pondering why this dude keeps on calling his ex f buddies (cantatinhos) as friends... like, who does thaaatt???? and he keeps them too in his contacts! lol i just couldn’t take that... like, i felt like it’s disrespectful for anyone he’s trying ro get to know at the moment... but oh well, now i think things got more sense bc apparently, it is not just a personal thing, but a cultural thing too. :(((

It's more the 'party people' that are like that. My husband and I, for example, will never think about that, the most conservative/christian brazilians will have different relationships with their couple. In my opinion, I think this is a bad habit.
@Leguinan
@Leguinan Жыл бұрын
Brazilians, even cariocas, do have monogamic relationships, steady and faithful. The thing is that for cariocas It is not unusual for a contatinho to become a friend, and you Will not add him/her to the dating pool. I have friends, plain friends, who are former contatinhos. If the relationship progresses It becomes a commitment. Brazilians are iffy in general, I reckon. You might fall in love exactly with that bright and bright eccentric way of demonstrating love, and our atitude towards sex, that might hurt you given your culture.
@EvgeniyaJZ
@EvgeniyaJZ 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know but this makes me sad. These are fake relationships. Easy come, easy go is the right description for those. But I prefer a relationship where you fall in love with each other slowly and deeply. Where you have a meaningful connection, when your souls connect. Because I don't see sex as the goal of the relationship. I see a long term, hopefully permanent intimate bond with someone as the goal. I think it brings you the most satisfaction. Sex is nothing in comparison...

@Alimac as someone who's lived in both the US and Brazil, I have to disagree. Both are the largest countries in their continents. Both countries were colonized by greedy Europeans and had extremely large amounts of slavery and indentured servitude. Both countries were founded on the mixing of cultures of Africans, Amerinidans, and Europeans. With large amounts of immigrants from other places of the world coming later. Making them both incredibly racially and ethnically diverse countries. The US is a salad bowl while Brazil is a melting pot.
@AyeeeItsCam
@AyeeeItsCam 2 жыл бұрын
@Alimac In Brazil, more than half of the country is of African descent. But Brazil's past has convinced an entire group of people into identifying as 'Pardo'.. Some ACTUALLY are Pardo, but others are 70/80 percent African talking about "im mixed, not Black" like people like Neymar. But in most of the world those "pardos" would still be Black. And a lot of people in Brazil who identify as white are not white. They're Pardos and wouldn't pass for white anywhere else. So Brazil's ideas of race are just as crazy as the US's, just in a different way.

@T-Bone MMA Because in Rio the majority it's people are not interested in "dating" per se... they are more into hanging out AND making out (friends with benefits = contatinhos) and if it turns out you guys develop feelings than maybe it can turn into something more serious ( if both want it). In resume... If you wanna "go all out" it's easier but if you want something serious you need to take your sweet time to connect.
