Great video. I just learned a great tip. When I would put my cake on the turntable, I’ve used buttercream, melted chocolate and shortening to adhere. Eventually after taking cake in and out of the freezer, bc/chocolate hardens. So cake no longer stayed firm in place. Shortening was ok, but just didn’t do the trick. The frustration of trying to use a bench scraper and your cake starts shimmying! First time I have ever seen two sided tape suggested...BRILLIANT. You’re never too old to learn something new!!

It used to drive me crazy when my cake started moving too. The stronger the tape the better.

What color did you use on the buttercream?
@duevannidawnlegaspi77464 жыл бұрын
Very helpful tutorial, thank you. What buttercream do you use? I cant seem to get smooth results with american buttercream. Thank you.

I always use Swiss meringue buttercream. It’s so smooth and not nearly as sweet. Much easier to work with but harder to make. I have a tutorial on how to make it if it interests you. Thank you for watching.

Hi, my leveller are from Fat Girl Cakes online. I absolutely love them! They stay so straight and I like how they feel in my hand. The leveller I use on top is just from any hardware store. Thanks for asking.

How about if i cut into the cake? Doesn’t the board in the middle can be disturbing?
@TheCrumbCakeKitchen4 жыл бұрын
When you cut into the cake, your knife stops at the middle board. This allows you to cut reasonably sized pieces. Once the top half is cut you can slide a knife under the board to release it from the lower half and remove it. Then cut the lower cake. You don’t have to use the board but you will get more pieces from the cake if you do. I only do this with cakes over 6” tall. Hope this helps.

@@TheCrumbCakeKitchen but sometimes i see people make a more than 6 in cake with no board in the middle? How do they make it without causing the cake to collapse?
@TheCrumbCakeKitchen4 жыл бұрын
@@shurouq0035 well, it’s a bad idea. It’s no longer very stable and the pieces are huge when cut. I make a lot of wedding cakes and I’d never make taller than 6” without internal support. You can leave the board out but be sure to use at least three dowels to provide the support. Any shorter than 6” is fine without support. I like bubble tea straws as dowels.
