Yes, more about mentality! I think the whole pk community should be focused more on talking about these things and having a think about our own personal practice. We now have many move tutorials (which are still great to see), but I think so many big-skill professionals could share how they prepare, what goes on in their minds before and after.

Can: Can do it (not necessarily perfect or comfortable) Situation may vary this, examples include being tired, its rainy, had a bad day Can Consistently: Can do it consistently (not necessarily perfect or easy) Situation barely varies the fact that you can do the trick, even if you dont want too for safety and logical reasons. Have done it: Have done it before in the past (either through skill/luck) Belief of whether you can or cannot again does not matter. Can do it: I have done it before so I know I can do it again because of the mind-set. Mastered technique: Something that does not last for long periods of time (most of the time), perfecting a move, its easy to you and its perfromed close to perfectly. The situation does not matter in how well you perform the trick, just beacuse you don't doesnt mean you can't. Mentally can't: Put a mental block on a trick for whatever reason. Examples include having a bad time with that trick, seeing it fail, lack in self belief, low self confidence, not feeling it, feel it is unecessary, do not want to do it, place is sketchy, such as the wall may be a weird heigh and distance from where you take off, pressure of an audience. Physically can't: There is a genuine reason as too why you ''can't'' do the trick. Whether it be you want to heal from an injury or you have damaged a specific body part that will not allow you to do it (atleast not well or in a way that makes sense to do so, for things such as healing or safety/logical reasons) Here before HD kicks in ahahahaah never seen this before other than when I uploaded on my other channel

I completely agree, but for mastered technique, "something that *does not* last for long periods of time" isn't after you master something you can do it over and over, and keep on doing it for many many years because you have mastered it

Good video, and thanks for featuring a few clips from our old strength training video. It's good to see something which emphasises the importance of conditioning. In order for anyone to be able to sustain parkour training over a long time period, it's really important to ensure that the body is set up to take the strains and stresses associated with performing the kind of movements we encounter in parkour. I started training when I was 25. I've just turned 39 and I'm still training 2 to 3 times a week, with the same regularity and duration of sessions as I did back when I started. This is due in large part to the ongoing conditioning which I've maintained over the years. I've seen a lot of people start parkour, and a lot of people stop parkour, many due to injury. For anyone reading this who intends to continue training long term, I advise you to incorporate regular conditioning into your training. Whilst it might seem laborious, it's critical to the ongoing and sustained practice of parkour. Finally, even though we haven't produced any videos recently, we ARE still training! In fact, it's because we're training that we haven't had time to make videos ;) If anyone is planning on visiting Manchester this year, be sure to stop by and train with us. Our conditioning sessions happen on Tuesday evenings from 6pm.

This is such a good video!! For the whole definition of "Can" thing, for me I go by the David Belle principle of "Once is never" for a huge majority of my movement/tricks. If its a precision jump or a cat leap that I find difficult I will make it my goal to repeat it until I no longer find it mentally and sometimes physically challenging. Your front flip drop principles is something Ill 100% take into mind I really like your prep for it I think that will help me out. Please make similar videos these are super helpful!!

Really good video, interesting and informative. For me when i unlock something outside like on grass or woodchips, i try it on concrete, then I'm sure it's a goal and something i can do in any situation but repetition is key. 🙏 Thanks Dom!

You are a knowledgeable dude Dom, it's good to see you bring this side of training to focus :) I have upped my stretching to 3 times a week now, always working on the different muscles after a hard session and usually foam roll 1-2 times a week. Loose muscles, better flexibility, more range of motion and bigger jumps!

Great video. I like the philosophy on "can." I haven't considered necessarily the 'absolute any' situation thing a whole ton, but I think being able to do something with good consistency is important if you say you can do it, otherwise you just have done it before, and though gyms are great for learning, I think training outside in the real environment is important because its a whole different game than being in a controlled environment with mats and supportive people that will respond appropriately if you get hurt.
@TomRChee

my training thought is too take what i learned in the gym to an outside environment, where these moves will be second nature. great motivation in this video, thanks.

I usually drill a trick until I’m able to do it at least 3 times in a row. Than if I can still do it the next training sesh I can say that I can do it. But I always want to do it outside at least once before I really say that I can do something.

For me, being able to do a trick means that I can both land it and be able to throw it into a run. for example I'm now trying to learn side full. And on airtrack and trampoline I can land it, but I haven't been able to land it in a situation where I would do it in a run(like from a bit of hight) so I haven't learned it yet. I know the techniek, but I can't properly do the trick yet the way I want it to.

i don't like bucketlist training( just doing it once and calling quits), i usually call my first stick or whatever "unlock", as in i now know how to do it. then i don't say i can do it until i've actually repeated it to the point where i can take it everywhere ( usually concrete)
