The intensity of the glow on the firefly petunias isn't consistent. They're engineered to glow in the dark and not to waste that energy during the day. So taking your petunias into a closet during the day isn't going to give you a realistic impression of their capacity to glow. It takes them a while to decide it's night time and start kicking out that sweet, sweet bioluminescence. This is a problem for me because I'm a middle-aged man and after dark is way past my bedtime. But sometimes I can enjoy their glow in the mornings before sunrise when I'm stumbling through the dark like the aging freak I am.

If you can't get all the way to the meristem, And end up with maybe 2mm -5mm What are the odds you remove most pathogens and problems and diseases? I realize you probably won't be able to remove HLVD, But if that's not your goal, do you still have to go so tiny?

Its a shame the petunias didnt end up glowing as much as they could have. I'm hoping sometime soon we can have brightly glowing plants in a variety of colors!

So meristem culture for cleaning up viruses saved big portions of the horticultural trade -- Pelargonium ("Geraniums") for example. Also -- I think next spring I am buying glow-in-the-dark paint and spritzing it over the petunias I sell......

Like spider mites I decidd burn it to the ground (safely) I figured it was possesed and had to remove the funk / mites. No more worries but thankfull to know there is another way .... YT is fickeled I've wached alll your videos and for some reason I haaven't seen any of your last 5 videos on my feed at all. I ordered one of the glowing petunias. They definitely glow more than you show in your video. Most of the light comes from newly-formed flowers that are just "thinking" about opening, but the open flowers also glow. I would call the color "white", not green (but in such dim light, the eye can't really see color anyway). But the plant refuses to grow larger so I can take cuttings.

What kinds of plant growth regulators do you supplement in the meristem culture medium, or do you just use plain MS?

Cutting the shoot tip of the stem, and then dissecting it, is the opposite of how I do it. I strip it down to the exposed meristem while it is on the stem, then cut it off. Is there any advantage of doing it your way?

I was hoping this would be a simpler process... Still grateful that you could show a reliable process to save a plant from a viral infection, but they're gonna have to be special plants for me to do all this. Why are plant viruses, viroids, and obelisks so hard to deal with in plants?

Great video, I´ve been waitng for this one. I´ve heard that with some plants you can just tissue culture the plant with Aciclovir, or another similar chemicals that will suppress the virus, so in theory the plant would outgrow it. But it is hard to find info on this topics for amateur growers

just wanted to point out I got mine a week ago and a lot of people showing the glow of these are doing it wrong, they only glow at night, it has nothing to do with light. Even the species of mushroom that the dna they used on this plant will only glow at night, so during the day even if taken into a dark room there will be almost no glow. I can confirm this glows as much as the ads show every single part of the plant glows but the leaves, even the stems of the plant glow at night, and glow quite bright it is honestly shocking how much they glow. it glows bright at around 11 am, and around 3 or 4 am it is very bright even in a pitch black room you can see every bit of the plant glowing green all the way from the dirt to the very top flower.

All the slicing and dicing vegetables aka apical meristem is resulting in fragile stuff for small plants. Why not use *node* of stem. It proves clear marking of buds and you get uniformity from repeating on multiple nodes.
