Really appreciate the transparency regarding the p-ratio and the current data. Go science
@Magic_beans_3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, +1 for transparency and willingness to consider new information. Still, in previous materials like the “Nutrition for Muscle Gain” videos and “The Renaissance Diet 2.0” book he indicated that the p-ratio difference isn’t that significant within the range that most of us are probably thinking about (say 10-25% for dudes, 15-35% for ladies). It’s only a serious concern for: 1) advanced lifters who need to check every box in order to see any gainz, or 2) folks who are considering the 80s-style megabulk, in which case the p-ratio is just one concern among many, such as general health, range of motion, work capacity, and appearance (particularly with regard to its effect on motivation).

Did my first mini cut recently. 3 weeks, lost 8lbs. Was never hungry. Was actually eating more food than before, just replaced all my food with lower calorie options. Pretty aggressive deficit at 1800cal. I didn't take it easy on my workouts though. Was unbearably fatigued throughout the day. Once it was over, had a cheat day and enjoyed a FAT steak. The rubber band effect was real. After 2 weeks, gained all of the weight back in a weekend and got a nice case of constipation. My legs are 1/2" bigger, chest looks bigger. Happy with the gains, but definitely did something wrong.

That's a really biased worldview. I know scientists like that, but they are the exception, not the rule. Most scientists just want to publish papers. They don't much care what the results show, just that no one can call bullshit on their results by making the study well and empirical. Also, the problem isn't the fact that someone has a pet hypothesis, its when they can't admit its not correct after you see the evidence aren't supporting it. Which is something extremely rare. These quickly realized and pushed out of the conversation. The most common thing I've seen regarding the starting hypothesis wasn't clinging on to it, but rather changing it so that it fits the data and you can spin it as something positive. It's not that this receptor doesn't use ATP as we initially thought, but rather saying, "Excellent news, we proven this receptor is a non-ATP using receptor." As long as its framed positively for the journals.

I still have much fat to lose but thanks to you i now wheigh 73lbs less than the 310 that i weighed 2 years ago. This week i'm finishing my third fat loss period of 10 weeks and i'm more than happy. My ultimate goal will be to go around 220-225 so i'm aprox 15lbs away. I listen to what you say about not a good idea when the goal is to eventually lose more fat but if i hypothetically did now 2-3 weeks reverse diet, then 3 months maintenance followed by 4 weeks minicut and then maintenance again, would be a not so smart idea? I just don't want to spend that long time again in a deficit because after 5-6 weeks energy goes deep dive, libido the same, cognition the same..ppl talking to me and need a whole afternoon to prepare my reply lol. As a careless dude who made huge mistakes and crazy rebounds in the past (100lbs fluctuations) i'm trying to set a new baseline for myselef and then stick to it with a lets say 15-20 pounds maximum tolerable deviation, aka bulk period. For me personally mini cuts worked as long term cut phase, I did the "TIA" option but aimed for a deficit of 3000 and kept it up for two months with no rebound after. Went from about 22-25 down to 10-12 percent body fat (225 pounds down to 185). I eased back in (once I hit 195 I aimed for a 2000 calorie deficit and once I hit 190 I aimed for a 1000 calorie deficit). David Goggins did a similar thing and it worked for him long term. Ultimately I don't know why but harsh cuts are what works for me. Its almost impossible for me to do a 500-1000 calorie deficit as I both like food too much and remain unmotivated when I see little progress. I usually gain muscle during these harsh cuts but this most previous time I lost some strength in my chest (went from 255 4 sets of 8 reps down to 225 ;-; ) and maintained strength everywhere else. I think for me the issue is that a 500 - 1000 calorie deficit sucks almost as much as a 3000 calorie deficit. I love delicious food whether I'm eating out or making it myself, so if I'm going to suffer either way might as well lose as much fat as possible.
@tappaiden7 ай бұрын
3000kcal for me at 215 would be me fasted and running like two miles to go even further into the hole. Props to you bro but that sounds like hell. I agree though, harsher cuts (for me, a 1200kcal deficit over a more than 12 week period) have historically worked the best but after the last one I have zero appetite at all, like in order to make this bulk happen, I’ve been force feeding and I’m only at 2600kcal a day.
@LaM0NK3Y7 ай бұрын
@@tappaiden tbf I was running 10-15 miles every day so I could keep up the large deficit. My maintenance is around 2700 though luckily so I was able to eat around 1700 cals

I am a huge fan of 5:2 fasting while dropping fat, not sure where you fall on that, but it's been super effective in terms of dropping fat quickly while helping to maintain muscle via high protein on eating days and high GH levels on fast days. Also theoretically since after fasting your metabolic rate has been shown to be higher than before the fast, this seems to help avoid the metabolic slowdown that I have experienced with calorie reduction over a lengthy period of time, or at least it seems to be less of a slowdown since I don't need to reduce calories as much.

Why does rp not do novice routines, these guys are brilliant
@Magic_beans_3 жыл бұрын
It’d be kind of a waste of his talent; novices don’t really need expert advice. For your first year or two you really can “just eat, lift, & grow.” There are tons of novice programs out there and pretty much any of them would work as long as they’re based on the fundamental movement patterns (squat, hip hinge, press, and so forth). If you really are looking for good novice programs, I can recommend a few that I consider well designed (meaning an emphasis on major compound movements and sensible progression): - RippedBody Bodybuilding for Beginners (free) - Jeff Nippard Fundamentals routine (paid) - Stronger By Science programs (paid, but super cheap) - Bigger Stronger Leaner (book, paid) The website for Muscle & Strength magazine also has several solid programs that can account for limited equipment. For example if you’re still working out from home so you need something with just dumbbells, they have you covered.

@@Magic_beans_ just wanted to say thank you, I'm watching this back and realised you was the only who replied, I did take your advice and. I went to stringer by science for their average to savage , not called that any more, and I've gotten stronger, I look a little better, not gained as much muscle as you see alot of people doing, but it wil take time, it's not a race. And with a baby and stressful Job with alot of hours (80 weekly) I have to be patient and not plough myself into the ground, a year later, thank you for the reply, it was helpful and insightful. And really pointed me in a good direction, I also got bigger leaner stronger by mile Mathews and I'm training similar to that now, the sbs programs required more of my time, and I invested in a home gym, so the compound focus of bls definitely suits me better for now. Once again thank you , and all the best !

My short version of a mini cuts. If i gained a bit more fat for example 8 weeks than i wanted. then the mini cut should take me to what is ideal for me in at max half the time. I usually eat my first meal for the day in about 670kcal 55g och protein. 15g fat rest carbs. I swicth this to a protein shake of same ammount and 10g of omega 3. The rest of my day i eat normal meals. For training i keep everything as it is but i tends to go abit heavyer. I also pic 3 days where i do doubles. I go to gym for session 1 and do benchpress and deadlift. 1 set every minute får 14 minutes whit 75-85% 3-5 reps of daily max. I alternate between these two. This seems to help me keep muscle when i do an such an intensive cut. I den rest up and between 6-8 hours i go back, i train same muscle groups but now more "hypertrophy based" . I do 0 minutes of boring stready state or other cardio. Well i do have 3 Husky dogs, so i walk for about 1 hour a day.

Serious question...Am I doing something wrong here by cutting or is it recommended to keep massing until you’re at the point where food is utterly revolting??

Different issues for different people. People with bottomless appetites struggle more with the cutting part and avoiding the dreamer bulk. Other people have low appetites and struggle to eat more food. I am definitely the former but have had enough times when I ate when I was full/really didn't feel like it that I know its a struggle in and of itself for others.

No body builder - but was trying to loose weight fast for climbing using keto/intermediate fasting for 2 weeks. I am 1.66cm was ~70kg (most i have ever weighted bt far ) as described lost ~3-4kg (I expected that this had to be due water/waste - as i couldn't possible have lost 7000x4 kalories in this time)... so 2kg came back almost immediatly - now ~3 weeks later i may still have some weight loss... maybe 0.5-1kg but it was hard has hell and i felt really terrible and hungry (climbing felt good - but yeah 4kg less are very noticable on the fingers). Funny thing is i think i also gained some muscle on my arms - which now feels wired to me...

An in between in a regular cut would be once per week to do some HIIT in the morning then walk in the afternoon by eat nothing but salad until diner time. That could add up to 3-5 pnd of extra lost in a month. You might even do some autophagy with your dead cells by doing so.
