2005 R1 Stator Replacement
This video shows you the problems you have when changing the stator on a 2005 Yamaha R1.
This is pretty much the case for any motorcycle that doesn't have a flywheel cover on the outside and the possibility of dropping something down the hole in your stator case. On my old GSXR 750 I didn't have this problem because it wasn't set up the same way.
I was changing my R1 stator and when I pulled out the generator wheel from the back bearing, the absorber, washer, and bushing all fell into the casing in the oil!!
I was super upset and freaked out. I luckily had a long magnet that was able to retrieve the metal pieces from the oil. BUT I couldn’t find the absorber and I saw it plop into the oil. My fingers are too big to reach all the way down.
If you drop something into the casing and it disappears, it’s ok! Don’t worry. You will need to place an order for a NEW oil pan gasket though.
I spent a few hours trying to fish out the piece with the claw you see in the video. But there was no KZbin video that showed how to replace a 2005 Yamaha R1 stator and what to do if you drop something in the hole below.
This video will hopefully shed some light on how to remove the oil pan.
It is not too difficult.
1. Remove the stator cover screws. And hold a screw driver against the stator plug screw. The reason being, the stator and generator are magnetically attached and when I pulled it out it shifted the stuff that fell into the gap! So bush the screw driver against the spindle so it stays in place then you can pull it out slowly.
2. If something falls into the casing and oil, DON’T panic it’s not too difficult.
3. Grab a retractable magnet from AutoZone and you can get the metal pieces easily.
4. If anything non metal fell in there… well this video will help
5. Take the exhaust pipes off from the headers. You may need to buy new manifold exhaust gaskets part number 4FM-14613-00-00
6. Take out the oil pan screw that is 17mm and drain the oil in a pan.
7. Unscrew all 14 screws that hold the oil pan in place. There are also 2 other screws recessed in the two holes
8. Take the oil pan level gauge out as well. That black circle screwed under the oil pan.
9. Now the oil pan gasket seal is broken so order a new one. Yamaha 5VY-13414-01-00 Gasket
10. If the piece isn’t sitting in the pan reach up and feel around, the oil might have it sticking to another metal piece, but it’s in there.
11. Put everything back as you found it
Replacing the stator on any motorcycle isn’t really that difficult unless you drop a piece into the case and the oil. This video will show you how to get something out of the casing if you dropped it inside while changing the stator generator or stator itself.
OHHH And one important thing is that there may be a white dot on your stator gears. I was told this is NOT meant for timing so you can place the gears in how ever you want. I called the Yamaha dealership service center and he said that it was most likely placed there from manufacturing but not for timing purposes. He double checked in the mechanics manual and it said nothing about timing.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey nice video. I also need to install the new rotor magneto and I want to avoid having parts or magnets falling at the bottom. Any other advice that I should consider before taking all that apart?

Pull everything off together and put a long screw driver through the hole to keep all the parts together. In all honesty it's the rubber bushings you have to worry about. The metal pieces will come out with a magnet if the do fall. Just take it easy and don't rush

Nick D'Urso do you mean the small hole from the crank shaft?
@dursonj
@dursonj 5 жыл бұрын
@@gentlemantube9665 go to time stamp 2:11 the hole on the flywheel. You can stick a small screw driver all the way to the back while you pull that out. The absorbers sit loosely in between the back of the flywheel and the other part.so just be careful. I've done this about 5 times and only once did I drop anything. It's not a huge issue or problem it's just take it easy and go slow that's all

Yea GSXR 750 or 1000 is the best bike 05-06 I miss that bike so much!! I used to have 2. One was stolen, the other totaled because I hit a rock and it blew up the oil pan at 100mph and seized the engine... luckily I didn't go down!

Thanks Nick! I just did the complete install of the new Magneeto generator and old coil and whenever I crank, I get a screeching sound from this side (btw, for a moment the 46 goes means the rectifier is good!) and then again, in a couple of seconds! my engine dies, what could be the cause of it? (is it capable of making any sound like this if something is dropped in te tank? which I don't think as I checked manual and I have all parts!)

Heyyyy I'm not sure maybe the magnets came off and are scraping on the inside? Something isn't right and it's not generating enough power to keep the battery above 12v. Did you use OEM parts??? My bet is that the magnets on the outside of the generator came loose and are all cracked 🤷‍♂️ I'm no professional but maybe take it apart again and see

@@dursonj thanks for the reply, Appreciate it! Actually I don't see any magnets inside the Magento stator chamber...I haven't cleaned the oil though since I want to keep for the last when I'm all done correctly with the installation. Also, can it be the magnetic goo in the sump?
